The 2010 CCHA Championships 3/19-20: FSU, Miami, Michigan, and NMU

Re: The 2010 CCHA Championships 3/19-20: FSU, Miami, Michigan, and NMU

Well, just finalized my plans to attend the Joe this weekend... Life is good :D :D :D

Most of what I believe about Northern has already been said... On paper, they SHOULD win... I do have one thought though... With our propensity to make it to the Joe, I have to wonder if it has become a mental block... It has to be frustrating as hell to get there... I mean, just look at Walt's comments from last year about the 3rd place game... The idea has to be there... It's just a question of if we can overcome it...

I'm not in the locker room, so I really don't know if this is a factor or not... It's just something that has been kicking around in my head, so I figured it would have to be on the players' minds as well...

One of these years, the mental aspect will be over- it took quite a few tries before our team could take it all, too. Right now, hopefully your team is focusing on just one thing, Ferris. The Joe is irrelevant, the late game is irrelevant, what happened the last 3 years is irrelevant. You beat Ferris, one major goal will be achieved, again- making the tournament. After that- it's gravy (although, like us, you need to have some sense of urgency during the play- while it's great just to get there, that also should not be the focus- just like the Joe).

Saturday will matter when Friday is over.

Re: The 2010 CCHA Championships 3/19-20: FSU, Miami, Michigan, and NMU

I think NMU is beyond looking past anybody at this point in the season. Lately they have played a very consistant brand of hockey and are receiving contributions from many different players. This is a good sign.

They will be focused against Ferris knowing that it basically is a NCAA tournament game. Win and they are in and anything else on Saturday night is icing on the cake. We may very well see NMU at their best this weekend and that is scary for the competition. I'm sure that each player and the coaches know that they have more to give and my guess is that we will see it no matter the opponent.

NMU hasn't been in a position like this for years and it surely makes the anticipation level so much more exciting than having to travel and win it all. I for one look forward to a new experience in Detroit. One in which we finally get to see a banner raised to the rafters of Joe Louis Arena which is green and gold!!! Go Cats!!! :)

Oh dear! Did she not like the "Men of Northern" line?

The previous Miami administration replaced the first chorus of our Alma Mater with a really lame PC chorus to avoid the line "While thy sons have quested from thee..." Of course, I haven't met a single person that approves of the change and most are pretty angry about it.

What she didnt like was the COME men of northern...

Re: The 2010 CCHA Championships 3/19-20: FSU, Miami, Michigan, and NMU

Fair enough.... but it's one thing for a bunch of hockey hacks like us to wax on about our team, it's another to have a somewhat credible source, like the coaches, to discuss where they think teams will rate- if they perform to the level of their talent.

To a person, Michigan fans will tell you that they underperformed with good talent all season. Why, during the playoffs all of a sudden, did they finally get it right?

Depth isn't the reason they stunk and it isn't the reason they have suddenly become dangerous. They may not beat Miami, but I think fans that saw Michigan get trucked in October by Miami, or get outplayed at home by NMU, or saw other horrid performances this season may be surprised by what confidence, mixed with talent and relentless, desperate effort on the ice will do.

Give credit to NMU, FSU and Miami for being hard working, relentless and driven to get to CCHA semi's, also. The talent on all four teams are abundant. Miami has the best depth and has executed the best, but certainly are not invincible. There is a fine line between these teams and a break or two may decide any of the games.

Streaker, glad we could have an honest debate about things. Unlike your sad cohort, Wolverinetrumpet, who hide behind a neg rep instead of talking things out like a real man. So I thank you for being an adult even though we didn't see eye to eye about your program.

I made my point, I signed my rep, and I don't ever plan on being a man.

I think that you need to work on your insults. I'm not so sure that WolverineTrumpet is concerned about you inferring that she is not a real man.

Correct!

That, and I didn't care to add to a thread about this weekend as to why Michigan may have underperformed for part of the season. Therefore I utilized rep and responded to one person.

Hockey is my favorite sport for many reasons, including the ability for any team to win on any given night. A few good breaks and lucky bounces and the more talented team may find themselves on the losing end of the score.

Michigan is a decent team this year that needs to learn to stay out of the box (Tristan!!) and find a way to win those one goal games. They are not this year's Miami team. Even so, anyone can win (see Michigan over State at Munn, the Miami/tOSU playoff, Robert Morris vs Miami, heck even Michigan Tech won some games, etc.)

The depth is there on Michigan's team. For some of the season we didn't see much of it though. When very little of the game is played at even strength, you don't see much of the 4th line. Lines 1-3 have scoring threats. Line 4 will score occasionally. Perhaps what is missing is the PK play of Fardig and Miller. Fardig, a 4th line guy, was (in my opinion) one of our best penalty killers.

It should be a great weekend of hockey for those of us at the Joe. I loved last weekend, but I'm back to being pessimistic as this is most likely Michigan's last weekend of hockey.

Anybody named Tristan should be in a box anyways. Just change your name to Ed. Then change Scooter to Jim and Lindsay to Jeff and you'll have respectable names. :p I think Wohlberg is more of a hot head than Llewelyn.

I anticipate a great hockey weekend as well. gl!

Good Luck to Gussy at the Awards Night tonight
