Re: The 2010 Beanpot: Featuring One Team Under Consideration

I just took a looksie at the Poles. What the **** happened to Hockey East!? Yale is the highest ranked Eastern team!?

Bemidji State is ranked higher than any Hockey East team! Last season was arguably Hockey East's strongest season since 1999. This season has seen a big step down. What does that say about this year's BU team that is struggling so much in conference! :o

Re: The 2010 Beanpot: Featuring One Team Under Consideration

I wonder if all the wins were the fluke including their OT win in the HE championships vs. BC, or if a single (horrific) game was.

Nah, it was probably the winning streak that was fluky. :p

Of course if that's how you felt about the #2 BC ranking, then I respect that, I have no clue on that topic.

you mean that OT HE final where BC scored FIRST in OT but the goal was for some reason, not counted?? then BU scored to win it? and, yes, a perfect storm that BC football was #2 but that team actually UNDER achieved when you look at the entire season, they somehow lost 3 games:rolleyes:

Re: The 2010 Beanpot: Featuring One Team Under Consideration

I was at the BU/NU game (1-0 nu win on late ppg), and have seen both teams multiple time since then.. and there is simply no way that will happen again. BU is playing much better, NU is playing much worse. Not to mention, Rawlings had the game of his life and I believe BU played without warsofsky and bonino - the rest of their forwards played like *tards.

as for BC, they will either lose to harvard or blow a big lead but hang on to win in overtime - then get steamrolled by BU. atleast one goal will be disallowed, two others will be extensively reviewed, and lyles will score an own goal.

Re: The 2010 Beanpot: Featuring One Team Under Consideration

No really, NU and Harvard in the final? That's never happened. I would love that, but it's never happened.

True enough, but even with a much better BU team it came very close to happening last year...

However, even though it is the Beanpot, I can't say I'm all that optimistic.

Agree. I'm fully prepared to jump off the garden balcony after a consolation game loss to Harvard (someone beats Adam Kraus in overtime for the win).

I hardly think the BU/NU battle of the fanboys and (...wait, what to BC people call the Dog House? I guess it hasn't been big enough long enough to have a hurtful nickname.) the dog house will be anything like last year, the anticipation just isn't there.

Can we expect a section of superfrauds as big as the one that showed up for the game @ Conte?

NU fans are awesome.. much better than the robot fairies that bounce up and down on the ugly end of comm ave.

although question to the NU leaders, what happened to the 'can you feel it?' taunt? definitely miss that at Matthews.

Re: The 2010 Beanpot: Featuring One Team Under Consideration

change the Beanpot format. Have BC play BU every year in the first round at 8 PM.

NU fans are idiots. A couple of years ago I walked through their section with a jacket that said Parole Officer on the back and that place cleared out faster than the men's room at Agganis when people see Schweppie walking in. :D

lol.

well nu definitely has their share of dopes too. when i use the word fan; it is not a blanket statement for everyone in the arena. unfortunately, NU is still up there with providence and amherst for most hostile arena when the druggies and drunks show up.

I don't think Providence can really be on that list anymore. It's more like a church in there now.

“I thought Kevin Shattenkirk and Colby Cohen played their best games of the year tonight,” said Parker. “We were focused and we played harder. The way we played last Saturday night and the way we played tonight was like night and day. Tonight we looked like we were really ready to play.

I know the season was still young then, but Parker certainly does not agree with you. Both BU and NU played great hockey that night, which is why the win tasted so great.

It's true you were playing without Warsofsky and Bonino. But do you really want to go with that argument against an NU team this year? We seem to have more of our best players injured than we do healthy!

Re: The 2010 Beanpot: Featuring One Team Under Consideration

BUPot... NUWay..!! :)

Serously though, NU did beat BU in their only meeting this yr.. however, this is the Beanpot.. advantage BU (of course).

Nick that UVM gm in which NU gave up a bunch of goals (it was 9!!!), was their worst of the yr by far.. they also beat that same UVM team the night before... just like you guys pounding them (7 goals).. only to lose to them the nxt night..in your home & home. It happens

I see a BC-BU final, unless Rawlings has an absolutely amazing night. He has had a few this yr... still give the edge to BC in both scenarios.

Small thing: Maine/UVM aren't Home and Home series because they're way too far. They're weekend trips. If UVM/Maine are playing in NU, it'll either be one game (and game @ BU/BC/UNH next night) or two. it's just logistically impossible.

And we blew two games to them at home, thank you very much.

*Sigh* to go back to the days where THAT was the worst part of the season...

Re: The 2010 Beanpot: Featuring One Team Under Consideration

Don't forget what some BC fans have been saying--that Parker owns York--even though their head-to-head record since 1997 is right around even.

Let's tell the truth of the matter. Record doesn't tell the whole story.

Even with head to head records that are equal, Jerry had superior talent for what, 12 or 13 out of the last 15 years? I mean, even if you are willing to tell me 10 out of 15, the fact that he can't beat BU more than 50% of the time (and even less in Beanpot/Fenway/NCAAs/HE tourney games) is downright pitiful. And we all know how beloved Jerry is to "The Nation" while we love to honk on Jack Parker and his barely functioning liver.

Jerry loves grabbing his ankles when Jack enters the room. That became apparent to me this month (what took so long?).

Yes, he got Jack in 2006. Big time... in the biggest game between them so far. But the rest is ugly, again, considering that BC is almost always the favorite in these contests with the better talent on the ice. The fact that he can get his guys to play better after the Beanpot rather than IN the Beanpot is totally moot if we are just looking at Jerry vs Jack head to head.

Dude, Steve's a BC fan.

Re: The 2010 Beanpot: Featuring One Team Under Consideration

Nick, in the time period we're talking about:

BC 1-0 against BU in NCAA tourney

1-2 in HE Semifinals (a double OT loss and last year's loss to the eventual national champion)

0-1 in HE title games (same year BC beat them the following week in a bigger game)

1-2 in a QF series in which BC still went on to the FF

So, BU holds a 5-2 edge in HE tourney matches. BC a 1-0 lead in NCAA tourney matches. 5-3 total in postseason play (cue the jokes). I don't see a huge difference and am not sure it's all that relevant given what BC has been able to accomplish.

Are we really gonna factor in a regular season game at Fenway and a midseason tournament? I don't care all that much about those games.

Point taken on BC having more talent and that they should have won more of these games, but I just don't see the extreme you're seeing.
