Re: The 2010 Beanpot: Featuring One Team Under Consideration

He was at a PPG pace in that senior year. He did very well after coming back. Really liked him as a player, personally. But still, the prior 3 years left something to be desired production wise. He brought a lot of other stuff to the table, though.

Glad you brought that up. I wanted to comment on him as well (GQ!!!!!) but figured I was only allowed one to make a case for, and, well, my reasons were listed. :)

Re: The 2010 Beanpot: Featuring One Team Under Consideration

Centerfold. Every Game. When I don't hear it, I get sad.

After they didn't play it in a few different games early in the season a request very similar to that was made and they haven't skipped it.

Re: The 2010 Beanpot: Featuring One Team Under Consideration

I'm not talking about them playing songs that the students like, I'm talking about them being the ones who start chants and stuff like that 95% of the time.

BU students would sit on their hands the whole game if the band wasn't there to prod them in the right direction.

No, they wouldn't, but I get the tone of this thread so I'll do everyone a favor and let it go. As should you. You and the other one need to take a breath and follow Nick's lead and develop new material for this thread. It's only Wednesday!!! Regardless of how right or solid you believe your arguments and posts are, the more you say it, the less and less people will believe it. Pace yourself!!!!!!!! :)

I see your point. It looked like he was going well until the surgery pre-senior year. He may have been turning a corner Junior year. I mean, he didn't have much help 02-04.

Band plays a song. Students (on their own) react. Band plays it again, students will do the same. The band doesn't tell the students what to do. Students react to the band.

Apache started by a few guys doing the Fresh Prince. Then it spread. The director doesn't say "now, I want you guys to do this!"

Re: The 2010 Beanpot: Featuring One Team Under Consideration

I'm going to warn my fellow BC fans now. If you guys go out there and do something stupid on Monday like say, put a picture of Trivino on a huge milk carton, it's going to backfire and he'll score a hat trick. So just lay low and stick with the NU fans and the Fanboy Bingo. It's one of the great new Beanpot traditions and is good for a laugh by just about everyone - even the fansies it mocks.

Can the NU fans confirm that there will be a large Fanboy Bingo board in the NU student section? If so, someone needs to take a picture of it for me. If not, you BC guys need to take the lead.

Re: The 2010 Beanpot: Featuring One Team Under Consideration

Where the Harvard fans at?

All they need is for Muse to pull a-- well, a Muse-- and they can avoid the NU invitational.

Isn't the Superfraud seating section too far away to make this a workable solution? And don't they usually peel out too early to sit through the BU-NU game to make this work? You know Nick, if you want something done, you usually have to do it yourself!! :)

I can see how you can get that impression, and the students really do like having the band nearby, but when the away student section is large they make plenty of noise sans band in my experience.

hopefully it's not similar to the BU Bingo board that's sitting my garage from the '07 season. copycats.

a note on the BU band: here's one guy who's incredibly happy that they still whip out Brass Bonanza every now and then!

Re: The 2010 Beanpot: Featuring One Team Under Consideration

1b Chris Bourque (2nd rd pick. 23 pts and a 0.0 GPA in 35 games)

I wouldn't call Bourque a bust based on his freshman year. A brain dead arrogant twit, yes. But not a bust.

Agreed about Trivino. Definitely the biggest bust to come out of Canada since Dan Bertram.

:p

Re: The 2010 Beanpot: Featuring One Team Under Consideration

Today's Beanpot Luncheon Quote of the Day brought to you by Harvard captain Alex Biega:
"Having played in the Beanpot for three consecutive years, I've learned really two things -- one, any team can win the Beanpot in any given year, and two, Donato probably has more hair than we do fans."

Re: The 2010 Beanpot: Featuring One Team Under Consideration

What is the difference between these two groups?

Group A: Boston College, Duke, Notre Dame, Stanford

Group B: Connecticut, Florida, Florida State, Ohio State

It doesn't take a BU graduate to know which group is more desirable from an academic and athletic standpoint.

Not to get into a ****ing contest (and I don't really get why this is even relevant), but BC barely squeaks into Group A. Comparing BC to Stanford and Duke is plain silly. I think BC is a great school, but so are all 8 you reference above, particularly is you segment them by discipline.

Right or wrong, BC is largely considered the East Coast equivalent of USC. Not from an athletics standpoint, but rather a good school where a lot of wealthy families send their kinds (USC - University of Spoiled Children).

Hey!!! A Harvard fan sighting!!!! Welcome to the fray. :)

That is funny and true.....;) :)

Predictable. Bourque was a tremendous bust when you consider his 0.0 GPA and that helping him make an early exit. And the hype was unbelievable. For a guy getting so much PP time, those point totals are a little too low for the hype, draft status, and hype machine coming from you guys.

Dan Bertram, while not the goal scorer he was predicted to be, was a great defensive forward by the end of his career that still snagged 100 pts (ie - what John Sabo would have done in his dreams... although Sabo does have Bertram statiscally bested in the kicking a kid's face into oblivion outside of the Avenue department). Slight bust... BIG maybe. 100 pts isn't terribly difficult but if you get there, you've done alright.

Make a list for BC. Pineault. Lovejoy. Perry. Ryan Hayes. Cass. There's a start. Lovejoy and Pineault are probably 1a and 1b.

I don't know, I seem to remember Choo Choo Boy!!!! telling us that Bertram was the second coming of Paul Kariya and Waynes Gretzky combined.

I would be incredibly hard-pressed to call Florida, Connecticut, Florida State and Ohio State top-level academic institutions. In 2008, BC had a 92% graduation success rate for football, Notre Dame was 94%, Stanford was 93%, and Duke was 92%

Florida: 68%, Connecticut: 77%, Florida State: 69%, Ohio State: 52%

Overall student athlete graduation numbers:
BC: 96%, Duke: 97%, Stanford: 91%, Notre Dame: 90%
Florida: 69%, Ohio State: 78%, Connecticut: 81%, Florida State: 80%
