The 114th Congress: Two More Years!

Re: The 114th Congress: Two More Years!

And public approval of their own Congressman has gone up 50% with the American people.

The cycle continues.

FYI, my Representative sucks. My two Senators I like but I have some major issues with both of them.

My Rep bought his seat. He's an idiot with a (D). He replaced a guy who was an idiot and literally insane, and with an (R).

So. Baby steps.

Re: The 114th Congress: Two More Years!

My Rep didn't buy his seat. My district is solidly red, meaning my Charlie cat could run as a Republican and win.

The (R) he beat in the last election may have been a better choice. It was very close in a supposedly safe district.

Our chance was the primary and we blew it.

But I swear if we'd have had Roscoe one more term I'd have come off the bench.

Looks like Ryan is getting a scare, I'd laugh if he lost(no chance but)

There's no way. Paul Nehlen makes Donald Trump look competent.

Seriously, this is basically his ad:

Re: The 114th Congress: Two More Years!

Back to the I'm ******* stupid category. Thom Tillis (R-NC - What a shock) doesn't believe that confirming judges is part of his job.

Democrats including Sens. Elizabeth Warren (Mass.) and Mazie Hirono (Hawaii) made repeated requests Wednesday to confirm a batch of Obama’s judicial nominees who are ready for votes. Each time they tried, Tillis objected and suggested the Senate shouldn’t be spending time on judges.

“What we get are things that have nothing to do with doing our jobs,” he said. “I’m doing my job today and objecting to these measures so we can actually get back to pressing matters.”

It’s a weird thing to say since it is literally the Senate’s job to confirm judges, as spelled out in the Constitution. It’s also ironic that Tillis is the one saying this, given that he’s overseeing the longest federal court vacancy in the country. There’s been an empty seat on the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of North Carolina for 3,848 days, or 10.5 years.

And people believe that NC is Purple? No. It's full derp mode. It's lost. It had great great potential. I believed in NC at one time. Now I wouldn't move there if you paid me to move there.

My rep has switched each of the last four elections. Y'all think Congress is doing such a ****poor job, well we're doing our part...

And yet, both parties have had control of the Senate during that time. If that doesn't tell you everyone there is only concerned about the letter next to the name, nothing will.

Irrelevant. This is a Senate Responsibility. There is no control in the Senate unless you have a 60-40 majority. In some cases a 2/3 majority. Neither party has had that. This is the GOP not doing their jobs again.

Re: The 114th Congress: Two More Years!

It's part of the game. Congress adjourns without doing anything, sticking it with Obama. Obama passes an executive order in the absence of any Congressional action to deal with the problem. Then the GOP Congress brays to their supporters about "executive overreach."

The Republicans are a 30-year old still living at home and leaving Mom to make his bed and then complaining she violated his privacy by going into his room.

NC (along with PA) does not tax Federal retirement pensions (nor state pensions). A heck of a lot of ex Federales live there. I wouldn't mind - especially for the golf.

Re: The 114th Congress: Two More Years!

It is not the senate's job to confirm judges. It's to provide a check to the executive branch from controlling the judiciary.

The president is to appoint by and with the advice and consent of the senate.

I don't agree with what they are doing, but the constitution doesn't require them to confirm the president's appointments.

There would be zero vacancies if the President could just appoint them. So something doesn't jive here.

Re: The 114th Congress: Two More Years!

No, the president is to appoint judges by and with the advice and consent of the senate.

The senate is under no obligation to approve his appointments.

If the Senate is in recess I believe the President may use a recess appointment to get the judge/justice in his/her post (until Senate returns).
