The 114th Congress: Two More Years!

Better still, just open Medicare to everyone. Imagine the savings in bureaucracy of reducing the ten trillion overlapping / hole riddled programs that exist today with one program.
Socialism. Can't do that.

Great idea, but you're consolidating empires. A lot of kings/queens/emperors/empresses will be deposed. Dukes and Duchesses will loose their fiefdoms and their worshiping serfs. In DC, you expand and create empires, not consolidate.

Unless, the Goths/Visigoths/Huns/Mongols decide to invade and depose the ruling class. And there is also plague.

Re: The 114th Congress: Two More Years!

This is the crux:

Unlike racial gerrymandering, which is barred by the Voting Rights Act, partisan gerrymandering has not been definitively addressed by the nation’s highest court.

In the 2004 case Vieth v. Jubelirer, Justice Antonin Scalia, writing for the majority, concluded that it was impossible to come up with a sensible test to decide when lawmakers had gone too far in manipulating boundaries for partisan advantage.

But in a concurring opinion, Justice Anthony M. Kennedy suggested that the First Amendment could be the basis for a challenge if plaintiffs could prove that redistricting created “disfavored treatment” of groups based on their voting preferences.

I hope they find a way to declare the MD gerrymander to be unconstitutional. It is grotesquely partisan, and if anything disenfranchises voters it does. Allowing it to stand as precedent will lead to ever more incredible abuses down the line.

Re: The 114th Congress: Two More Years!

This sh-t again.

House conservatives are threatening to force a vote to impeach IRS Commissioner John Koskinen, bucking Republican leaders who don't believe his actions warrant such severe consequences.

Leaders of the House Freedom Caucus presented Speaker Paul Ryan (R-Wis.) with a choice on Tuesday: Move our impeachment resolution forward in committee on your own accord, or we will likely force the matter by filing a "privileged resolution." In other words, an end run around leadership to the House floor.

They want a commitment from Ryan by the end of the week on a timetable to advance the impeachment measure.

If this sounds familiar well it should. It's how the Freedumb Caucus defenestrated Boehner. 42 members of Congress (9.7%) are holding up the entire US government again and the rest of the GOP are too gutless to tell them "siddown you fat motherf----!"

Rover believes if Hillary gets elected that all gets fixed. Talk to him.

There is a way to fix it, but there is no way the GOP will go along with it.

If the Democrats take the House but only by a tiny number of seats the GOP moderates will be able to cut deals with Nancy as virtually any vote will always peel off a few Dems because of local interests. As Minority Leader Ryan can claim credit for actually accomplishing things for once, and always sift out some gold dust to help particular members in his caucus. All of a sudden it will become important to make kissy kissy with Ryan. The Freedumb Caucus will be caught in their own trap, unable to have any flexibility because they've portrayed not only the Dems by even the GOP moderates as Satan. They'll be powerless, literally, and unless they stop holding their breath Ryan can simply shut them out from any useful committee slots.

I know. I'm just saying, if the 108th GOP had a Daniel Webster or a Sam Rayburn they would have a path to burning the rot off their stem.

The caucus you hate is what the people voted for. It's about high time we get the corrupt establishment the heck outta there. I would have thought you'd be pleased with the removal of Böhner...

Re: The 114th Congress: Two More Years!

Promising to bring a country out of recession, promising health care, ensuring the poor had things to live, wanting to ensure education was standard... sounds eerily familiar...

Yes, because all those things are the essential characteristics of Naziism...

How about: hyper-nationalism, anti-intellectualism, provocative militarism, an obsession with the "threat" of racial minorities..?

You're only pushing my point even further. But hey, it's OK if there's a D next to the name...

Re: The 114th Congress: Two More Years!

Good news Republicans. Pubic disapproval of your Congressional caucus has dropped below 80%. At this rate you'll edge out head lice by the election.

And public approval of their own Congressman has gone up 50% with the American people.

The cycle continues.

FYI, my Representative sucks. My two Senators I like but I have some major issues with both of them.
