The 114th Congress: How Low Can They Go?

Re: The 114th Congress: How Low Can They Go?

Al Franken just did a great interview with Jon Stewart recently. It's a good watch. Not often are you proud of who represents you but in this case I am. In fact we have two great Senators from our State.

I'd love to see Franken debate Cruz. There'd be nothing left of Tailgunner Ted but a grease stain and a flag pin.

Given Franken's success and the results we've been getting otherwise, some state should run Jon Stewart for congress too. Why not?

Re: The 114th Congress: How Low Can They Go?

Like I tell everyone, I was so embarrassed and angered that we elected Franken that I couldn't even stand to hear his name.

Now I'd put him up there with Wellstone in terms of his honesty and work ethic. He fights for what he thinks is right instead of what he is paid to think. I'm sure money influences his some, but so far he's taken on industry and fought for the consumer every step of the way. He's just a quiet version of Elizabeth Warren.

Again, I don't subscribe to everything they say, but given what I perceive as their honesty and "moral" compass, I'd put my support behind both.

I had a similar reaction to Hillary as SOS. When Obama named her I thought, "smart politically but policy-wise there goes State, and that sucks." But she did a great job, represented the country well, and led a renaissance of State just when is was needed after the 8 years of neglect under Dubya's DOD-first regime. Dr. Mrs. Kepler wasn't surprised as she's told me that when the cameras were off in the Senate and she was working bills in committee she impressed even the other side with her fair-mindedness and hard work.

There's been some talk on this site, at least in the Health Care sections, about Tort Reform. Although not directly related, it's at least a start: https://www.congress.gov/bill/114th-congress/house-bill/9

Basically, it's a Loser Pays bill for civil suits, specifically aimed at frivolous claims when you look at all of the outs it gives the judiciary in assessing the payor.

Re: The 114th Congress: How Low Can They Go?

Looking forward to the 115th Congress, this makes the stakes just a little higher.

... some forms of discrimination against lesbians and gays are now covered by previously existing federal statute, the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) has found.

If the Dems could somehow manage in 2016 to hold the WH and squeak back into the majority in both Chambers, ENDA would pass and be signed into law and full legal equality would be achieved.

And yet, feminists didn't support the Equal Rights Amendment attempts...

This reminds me of the joke about why people took such an instant dislike to Dick Cheney.
