Re: The 114th Congress: How Low Can They Go?

Putting this here, because this is pretty low:

Michigan state senator: schools saying "it's okay to be gay" should be held liable if kids get STDs

According to the article, sounds like this guy is one of those people who believe you can pray the gay away.

I realize it doesn't work that way, but if I were that stupid I'd be afraid to open my mouth to order a Happy Meal for fear of being overheard, much less say something on film.

Ok folks - trimming time.

Pick 30 people
10 House Dems
10 House GOP
5 Senate Dems
5 Senate GOP

That if they disappeared the Congress would be a better place.

Quote from the article: "Glenn is saying what Midlandites are thinking!"

Truth. You could pretty much carve another red state out of the rural/inland parts of lower peninsula Michigan/Ohio/Indiana.

There are a lot of "hidden red states" out there. Western Maryland / Central Pennsylvania. Eastern Washington / Eastern Oregon. Most of Upstate New York and Vermont. If the Electoral College was by square footage the Republicans would win every election.

Obama plus mainstream Republicans vs the Tea Party and mainstream Democrats. Delightfully odd bedfellows. Basically, TARP.

But let me get this straight. The Republicans have been calling this president dictator / monarch / emperor, and now they vote to explicitly grant him the power not to consult them? That seems to belie their rhetoric a tad. :)

You can't fight City Hall. But you can surely rent a politician.

Money talks. The TPP lessees paid more than the Warrenites.

Do red states manufacture and blue states consume?

northern California and central valley, northern Maine, rural Minnesota, central/southern Illinois, most of Nevada, northern Michigan, central/south Ohio, eastern and western Colorado, etc. Those places are never going blue.

Western MA as well?

You could say the same thing about "hidden blue states", such as Dallas and Boca Raton. It does effectively look to be rural vs. urban. And unfortunately, the urbans try to cookie cutter their policies onto rurals, thereby driving them into the dirt and forcing them into urban situations (once again, part of Dr. Day's warning). Why not create some more states, like maybe 137 of them? I seem to remember a joke map like that if every single state secession movement actually happened.

It works the other way, too. Rural gun laws make sense if your neighbor is a bear; not so much if it's a day care.

You do know that an overwhelming majority of mass shootings took place in "gun free zones", yes? Easier target; you don't have to think twice about it because someone may fight back.
