Re: The 114th Congress: How Low Can They Go?

I guess I give some of these people something to be proud and excited about in life. Always interesting how they still follow me around the board like little puppies.

You flatter yourself. They could just as easily say that you are following them around the board.

Except they post all the time right after I post something. I rarely have a post that lands directly after theirs, and if I do, I'm responding to someone else and it's a random thing. Unofan, for example, has been following me around for years. The number of his posts that appear right after a posting of mine is far higher than would be statistically expected if he was just randomly responding to a variety of posts. It's not flattering for sure. More like a little creepy.

I kind of feel like we're all back in high school now.

Welcome to the prestigious club, we have punch and cookies. There's also a secret hand shake you'll need to learn and you'll get your membership card in the mail within 3-5 weeks.
The dirty little secret of the club is that there is no club. Based on the evidence, I have a hard time believing that Bob has ever put anyone on ignore.

The first rule of the Ignore Club is DO NOT TALK ABOUT IGNORE CLUB!

He has a spreadsheet though with all the USCHO Names documented.

You thought we ever left?

The New York Post has it right -- most adults function at a third grade level.

I don't know about a third grade bit, but I do remember seeing a report some time ago that most adults' reading skills (comprehension and vocabulary) top out at a 10th grade level. This holds true for many who've attended college, too.

As a news producer, I was accustomed to writing at an eighth grade level so my viewers wouldn't be confused by big words and get distracted.

Re: The 114th Congress: How Low Can They Go?

This week in Republicans. Got some good ones today.

1. Lindsey Graham is kicking the tires on a Presidential run. Couldn't ask for a guy more afraid of Islam then that one. He's got the fraidy cat vote locked up.
2. Read today that the GOP is now convinced that if they don't fund the Department of Homeland Security this time the Democrats will be blamed. Good luck with that Bone Man and Itch.
3. This exchange I read in the local newspaper between Franken and Grassley is priceless. Grassley being the new head of the GOP Judiciary committee.

In early February, Franken walked into a Judiciary Committee hearing where Republicans were trying to find absent members to meet a quorum so they could advance legislation about open records reform and restitution for child pornography victims.

“You know, you guys are in the majority,” he said, taking a seat. “Goodness.”

A few members chuckled.

“I want to say something about this,” Franken said, leaning into the microphone, with a deadpan unsmiling face.

“When we were in the majority, we had the responsibility to provide a quorum, and I thought you guys, your side, didn’t show up because you just resented being in the minority. But now I know … again it’s just sheer laziness.”

The new Judiciary Committee chair Iowa Republican Sen. Chuck Grassley didn’t look up.

“You did a very good job, I have to say,” he retorted. “You did show up.”

So good to have Republicans in charge now. Being as they don't show up either in the minority or the majority. At least the Democrats take their jobs seriously.

The last Republican who cared about governance was Bob Dole.

More good news on the Republican front.

Former Republican presidential candidate and congressman Ron Paul says secession is happening and it’s “good news.” Paul later predicted the states would stop listening to federal laws.

“I would like to start off by talking about the subject and the subject is secession and, uh, nullification, the breaking up of government, and the good news is it’s gonna happen. It’s happening,” Paul, the father of potential Republican presidential candidate Rand Paul, told a gathering at the libertarian Mises Institute in late January.
