Re: The 112th Congress: Debt ceiling edition
Sorry but even my fiscal conservative nature cant agree with this. This BS that all of this was caused by spending and it had nothing to do with bringing in more revenue is ridiculous. So they cut spending, but leave taxes low meaning nothing actually changes. The Dems had the initiative, they had the right plan (even the Economist agreed) and this is what we get? The Dems are the idiot NEWBIE playing poker always chasing after the big hand but dropping out as soon as someone lays down a bet. The GOP was imploding and what do the Dems do, help them recover and GIVE THEM EVERYTHING THEY WANT!
Now I am sure the resident apologists like Rover and Kepler will come in here and talk about how great this was we got a deal, but any plan that doesnt end the some of the tax breaks is no plan at all.
I would rather default than do this, this "compromise in name only" does not help it just pushes the problem to a later date and still doesnt add revenue.
Which is exactly why we should be glad that any "deal" involves a ceiling increase at all.
But, truth be told, this is one of those issues where the right-leaning parts of me win out. The Democrats need two things: A backbone, and to be taught that there's more to having a strong Federal government than just throwing money at everything so you can see what sticks. It's just a shame that they are having to be taught this lesson (which they won't absorb, FWIW) by the "corporations first" c-rags of the modern day GOP.
