Which is exactly why we should be glad that any "deal" involves a ceiling increase at all.

But, truth be told, this is one of those issues where the right-leaning parts of me win out. The Democrats need two things: A backbone, and to be taught that there's more to having a strong Federal government than just throwing money at everything so you can see what sticks. It's just a shame that they are having to be taught this lesson (which they won't absorb, FWIW) by the "corporations first" c-rags of the modern day GOP.

Sorry but even my fiscal conservative nature cant agree with this. This BS that all of this was caused by spending and it had nothing to do with bringing in more revenue is ridiculous. So they cut spending, but leave taxes low meaning nothing actually changes. The Dems had the initiative, they had the right plan (even the Economist agreed) and this is what we get? The Dems are the idiot NEWBIE playing poker always chasing after the big hand but dropping out as soon as someone lays down a bet. The GOP was imploding and what do the Dems do, help them recover and GIVE THEM EVERYTHING THEY WANT!

Now I am sure the resident apologists like Rover and Kepler will come in here and talk about how great this was we got a deal, but any plan that doesnt end the some of the tax breaks is no plan at all.

I would rather default than do this, this "compromise in name only" does not help it just pushes the problem to a later date and still doesnt add revenue.

edit: Here is hoping the entire Dem leadership, including Obama is voted out. If I am going to be stuck living in a country where the Dems just give the GOP what they want all the time I would rather have the GOP in power.

White House says there are still important issues on the table and negotiations are ongoing.

So there is still time for the Democrats to give away more stuff. How about another tax cut for <del>millionaires</del> job creators? The first two created so many jobs...

Until we see the final piece of legislation, we really don't know what the heck we got. I just hope our elected representatives read and comprehend the thing before they vote.

I intend to sit back, watch the baseball trades, and tune in during the commercial breaks to see if anyone has given away the store.

Republicans fight, Democrats cave. From what I heard just now the only "Democrat" in the Senate still fighting is Independent Bernie Sanders of Vermont.

I'll be wrong, we won't default. The Democrats are just too weak for that to happen. I think we need another tax cut. The top marginal rate for people making a million or more needs to match their effective rate of about 18%. We need to bring that effective rate down to about 10% or less for the job creators to get this economy moving again. For those of you on SS we need to increase your effective rate. We won't raise taxes to do it, we're just going to slash your benefits. We need to do this so we can keep the military strong.

Auto. Everything should be automatic. I'm proposing a trigger of Social Security, Medicare, and income taxes for income over 500,000 dollars to be abolished entirely if the 14 trillion isn't paid off by next year.

But what if the Social Security recipient is also a job creator? Exemption then, right?

What's really disgusting about this is when the country finally does implode after the republicans have gutted the middle/lower class completely is that they'll be the ones setting up their Conservative theocracy. If you're not a fundie WASP you might as well get your **** and get out now.

It would be stupid to cut the military since they protect this nation's interests.

While I'm by no means pleased about the racist fundies getting their way, at least Obama has done some things to make the country better.

As I said on Facebook, watching this whole thing unfold I don't know whether to laugh, cry, or buy 1,000 boxes of ammo and a 2-year supply of chef boyardee.
