Sweet Release: Michigan Tech Offseason Thread Part I

Re: Sweet Release: Michigan Tech Offseason Thread Part I

Very good game by the Hushies

Not sure if Robo missed played the third goal or it was bad bounce. It was too fast in real time and not TV, so no replays. Team came out slow in the third lacked offense, but played well on the defence to keep DU off the board. About 5 minutes into the third not sure which line it was, but started on the offense and got it 3 to 2. And played hard through the end of the game.

DU was 0 fer in four games on the PP.

F2B&G I was going to get the PK numbers and see what they were from the first of the year, but don't have to do it now. THANKS:)

Royer was on crutches on Saturday badly bruised or broken bone in the leg.

When I noticed that he was on the ice I thought Pete H did well with the puck, so think he is a possibility next year, time will tell.

Earlier this year talk to someone that said the Russell after the first of the year realized that he wasn't coaching "last years team" and changed his approached and they thought it was working.

I wouldn't put any money on DU to win NCAA, if they couldn't score a PP on the "worst" PK in the country in 4 games, they are going to have trouble with good teams.

We'll see. DU has a very good record this year against top teams and didn't get to be #1 by accident. Tech's PK has improved dramatically in the last third of the season, and I also think DU lacked a little motivation in this series playing a 10th place team.

Twitch

Glad to see you made it to Alaska.

Missed you at the play off series, needed the help no "Pasty Fans" showed up!

I don't think we saw/heard the best of DU last weekend, except perhaps for that Saturday 2nd period. In my estimation, they have generally not been quite the offensive machine that Wisconsin has been, but the short NCAA playoffs are mostly about hot goaltending. As we saw last year with Notre Dame & Jordan Pearce, flashy regular season numbers don't mean anything if you can't perform on the national stage. In Denver's case, Cheverie will soon prove whether or not he is a playoff goalie.

Interesting, actually makes me wonder what they did differently.

Re: Sweet Release: Michigan Tech Offseason Thread Part I

Two things, I think it's more important that we get a strength and condition that solely focuses on hockey. Bangen seemed to have the team conditioned well before he started to take on the role of conditioning all of the other athletic teams.

Second, where do you think our seniors will fall in the next couple of weeks? Who will stay to finish out their degree, who will pick up a contract?

Any chance that the skating treadmill will be unplugged next season? I heard that after NMU's injury plagued season last year they quit using the one in MQT.

May want to take a look at that as a possible source of injuries.

I think it comes down to no one is really sure how to utilize it properly yet.

Re: Sweet Release: Michigan Tech Offseason Thread Part I

How does using a treadmill or not have an impact on shoulder injuries? It seems like we see more shoulder injuries than anything.

Guys checking the Treadmill when they have it out on the ice for practice. ;)

Didn't talk about that so I'm not sure.

Only having seen them at CC early and DU I think the maybe more agressive and not so quick to fall back to defend and not push the play. But as I said I haven't seen that many games in person to see a difference.

I thought in one of the recent broadcast the Dirk said John Kivisto had a hip problem that would require surgery and end his hockey career.

Also happy to see BUNGER! get a goal in his final career game. It was his first in over two years and 71 games.

I think Gwilliam will eventually get a chance with an ECHL team.

Fade, Looking at the boxscores in the morning paper the day after each game, I noticed that all three Tech goals in this series were the first of the year by the player who scored it. There's no question that Tech missed its leading scorers in this series.

That might've been VanWagner that would be ending his hockey career after Tech was done this season, not positive though.

Re: Sweet Release: Michigan Tech Offseason Thread Part I

He'll get the last year of his contract to get this team to 10-15 wins and a positive outlook, or I think there will be considerable pressure from the program's major donors to move on.

If the program donors are appeased with a typical 10-15 win season then the state of the program is beyond help.

I expect Jamie to be shooting for a return to respectability with a winning season next year as a springboard to better things.
I sure hope he can turn it around, but another typical Tech 8-10 win season is not good enough after enduring the past two years.

Carl Nielsen was just voted Most Improved (I believe), and he's only a freshman defenseman.

Rohn benefiting the team in any way is a big bonus. Even on skates, he is probably 5'6", so he gets tossed around and bumped off the puck a lot in the WCHA.

Bunger showed some promise as a freshman with a 5-5-10 line, but never seemed to get over the 3rd/4th line hump, then played injured for much of 08-09.

Would he take it, being a masters candidate and all?

That is likely a decision he is going to face, unless he is committed to getting his degree now and doing tryouts in the fall.
