Sun Devil Hockey

I'm all for capitalism, but the recent airline/lodging/rental car consolidation seems to be increase costs, padded corporate profit margins, destroyed competition/service, and reduced traveler's selection.

All of those type companies lost revenue & profit during the Covid shutdown period, including oil & gas companies. Demand came roaring back, causing prices to rise (supply & demand) along with the increase in (govt) money supply (inflation), more dollars chasing the goods & services supply.

Being there and watching Colgate help open your new Arena in mid-October was a season highlight for me personally. We will no doubt meet our Waterloo this Friday afternoon in Lake Placid.

And the '22 - '23 season is over. The drawback to not being in a conference when your Pairwise # is too low.........

Don't know what the feeling is there, but from the outside, it looks like the first real disappointing D1 season they've had (Well, the new arena is certainly something memorable, but I'm talking about just the hockey results.). I know ASU was hit unusually hard by injuries, but what else are the feelings there? I thought they'd really contend for the NCAAs this year, given who they had coming back, some transfer portal pickups, and some decent recruits.

Injury list was so extensive an ASU club team player was brought in for 1 game.

I haven't heard such lately. There was some talk about NCHC but apparently Miami Ohio made a real stink about it. If you know, what conference was rumored?

The usual, CCHA was poking around. It seems like ASU isn't in a hurry to join anyone.

In a lot of ways, especially right now, I don't blame them. They have no problem getting home games, a number of independents, and B1G having an odd number of teams, maybe independent is the best for them.

Eigner mentioned ASU as "the elephant in the room" when talking about league expansion two weeks ago. I took that to mean some sort of conversation(s) was/were going on but I didn't read any more into it. Honestly, I'd be shocked if ASU had a strong interest in the CCHA. It doesn't feel like a good fit for either side. Then again, Augustana, so I guess anything is possible.

I think the CCHA wants ASU to join for several non-travel reasons. ("Brand name", large school, destination winter games in snow bird/alumni concentrated area,...) The only way Augustana makes sense if the CCHA is trying to set up and East/West league to maximize rivalries/minimize travel. If they are, ASU makes zero sense.

That kid is a POS. I wonder what his dad, who is the current GM of the lowly Philadelphia Flyers thinks?

Dad should probably focus on helping his son before he can help the Flyers.

This punk should know he is one hit away from ending up in a wheelchair.

I don't want to see anyone get hurt, but this kid is begging for karma to find him.

Unless the Mankato/Miami flip happens.

From my personal viewpoint, it works for me if ASU were to join CCHA. I'd get to see lots of their games in both Minnesota and Arizona, but it also works that way for me with the NCHC conference. However, I haven't donated enough money yet to ASU to have any influence whatsoever, including forgiveness of overdue library book charges from a few decades back......

I think the logical thing is for the NCHC to take ASU and then give Miami of Ohio a get out of jail free card to leave for the CCHA with no exit fee. There's an awful lot more upside to ASU than Miami of Ohio. In any event, Miami of Ohio is certainly in no position to be dictating terms to the rest of the conference.

Sol, did Carson Briere even play one shift for Arizona State University before being let go (and eventually winding up at Mercyhurst)? I can’t find any evidence that he did, yet press reports make it sound like he did. Just curious as to the truth. Thanks.

He red shirted a season at ASU

After digging into Miami more, I don't want them in the CCHA. They are a bunch of crybabies that likely will come in and expect everyone to bow to them and their "wonderful" ideas. While they have a lot on paper to offer a league like the CCHA, they sound like a headache to deal with, and they are a significant geographical outlier for most of the CCHA.

Tech owes us and Ferris for Augie (we were both "NO!" on every vote and were overruled - the unanimous vote thing was for marketing). And you aren't in the MAC with them (they aren't too bad).

Back to ASU (so as not to completely hijack their thread), did anyone hear anything from Lucia's trip down there? I still have my doubts about them joining but enjoy a good rumor now and then.
