Sun Devil Hockey

Terrible start to the season for ASU. Offense looks terrible, not having Johnny Walker for the MSU games didn't help. Defence looks terrible as evidenced by SOG numbers. But the season is still young and hopefully they improve although the same will probably be true of most other teams........

Correct me if I'm wrong but wasn't Wisc top line & starting goalie intact whereas we didn't have our leading scorer & AC? That it was the other lines that didn't match up? Regardless, our guys have been on the road for 17 days now out of a 33 day trip which doesn't help. But not complaining, B1G was kind enough to make it work for our student-athletes.
I have no doubt it would have been tougher if Wisc would have been full strength, and I didn't intend to come across as braggadocios. Hopefully everyone will be full strength for the 2021 series.

Wisconsin has been without our top 2 centers for 5 games now (Pelton-Byce and Holloway). This past weekend Achan, Baker and Mersch didn’t play (Covid?). So that’s 5 out of the top 9 forwards and the top 3 centers. Pelton-Byce and Holloway are big power play players. Achan and Baker are probably our best penalty killing forwards, maybe Lindmark. The 4th line for both games was literally just two defensemen who are not regular players.
 
Devil's started out hot against Notre Dame, 2 goals in the first two minutes, but then the game settled down with close to a goal for a goal. ASU still without their lead scorer. Hopefully back tonight.
 
Kopperud is having an impressive start with 11 points in his first 8 games. Beside the stats, are there any more impressions? Potential?

He's gotten better throughout his BCHL & USHL career & continuing the trend. Potential?, seems good but hard to accurately predict with so many factors involved IMO.
 
Two overtime losses to Penn State, swept. Both happened during a player change while 3 on 3. Didn't keep track of the puck as change began, got caught short-handed. Poor attention to detail.... Penn State deserved to win the first game, being the way they played. Sun Devils deserved to lose the second game being the way they played after the first couple minutes of Period 1. We need Johnny Walker back for the power plays.
