Re: Strands in the Tapestry: the Business, Economics, and Tax Policy Thread

I'll see that and raise you the $1 I gave to a homeless person today.

be careful or the EEOC will take you to court! "panhandler" is now a recognized job description, and you are now guilty of discrimination! if you give $1 to one homeless person you met today, then you are now required to give $1 to every homeless person you meet all week!

Perfect! That's a better excuse than what I usually tell them, which in response to their question of if I have any spare change I say "No, I only carry hundreds!"

Try it sometime. ;)

ZOMG!!!! Something funny happened on the way to the apocalypse! The economy is still growing! I thought Obamacare was supposed to turn the US into Zimbabwe.

http://www.cnbc.com/id/100927539

Gross domestic product grew at a 1.7 percent annual rate, the Commerce Department said on Wednesday, stepping up from the first-quarter's downwardly revised 1.1 percent expansion pace.

That's not exactly a set of robust figures there, Rover. If anyone in the administration is willing to hang his/her hat on that, then we're in for one hell of a long-term malaise.

Context my boy, context.

The US economy had to absorb 1) the sequester and its resulting cuts, 2) tax increases, and 3) getting zero help from the rest of the world.

Putting the politics aside for a minute, look at what's happened to other countries be it in the developed or developing world. Japan, England, and the EU are no growth basketcases. China's slave labor driven economy is slowing down, and places like Brazil and Russia have about the same growth as the US despite being much, much smaller economies. All in all the US still driving the bus of the world economy, and all other countries including the state planned one in China ought to be d@mn thankful for it.

Not to mention, the Fed's desired 2 percent inflation rate; doesn't sound like a growing economy to me.

Looks like a so called "independent" poster is once again lining up behind GOP talking points.

Funny how that happens...over....and over....and over.....and over...again. :D

Not to mention official GDP figures are "real GDP," i.e. inflation adjusted.

Fixed your post.

Thanks!

Ya know, its one thing to not pass a budget as its merely a planning document. But when you can't even pass an appropriations bill, ANY bill, through your own caucus, W T F are we paying your salaries for? Can one of you righties call these idiots up and tell them to do their job? I can see having a dispute when you go to conference with the Senate Dems, but these worthless a-holes can't even get to that point.:eek:

Neither House of Congre$$ has passed an appropriation bill since FY 2010.

And yet we keep reelecting them - both parties. But of course it is all the GOP's fault. Why can't we all agree that manure stinks, no matter what colon it comes out of.

Because if you don't hand out responsibility proportionally you give cover to the most extreme wackos. In this Congress, the most extreme wackos reside in the House GOP. The Senate has passed a bipartisan farm bill and budget. They'll also passed a bipartisan immigration bill. The House? I think they might be holding their 500th useless vote on repealing Obamacare.

Look joecct, I sympathize in that I doubt you're a big fan of where your ideology and party (spare me the I'm not a Republican schtick for one post please) are right now, but facts are facts. One whole side of Congress refuses to do basic governing. Saying "oh they both do it" is a cop out.

People re-elect the same people to Congress over and over because it's not my Representative/Senator that's the problem, it's all the others that can't get their heads out of their collective a**es.

yes, that's true, the Senate under Harry Reid has been pretty much worthless. So why do you keep up your cop out then by complaining about the House all the time? They pass bills that Reid won't even bring to a vote. At least he could let the Senate vote 'no' on them yet he won't even do that!

I never said that I was not a Republican. And I wonder how you would classify the 2 California Senators and the House Minority Leader? IMO, they're on the extreme edge of your teeter-totter.

All your moderates (Blue Dogs) got wiped out in 2010. My loonies get past the primaries and get destroyed in the general.

BSABSVR (both sides are bad, so vote Republican) the official motto of Fark Independents (tm).

Gonna post another redstate.com article? Or are you back to the opinion pages of the WSJ for good?
