State of College Hockey

Re: State of College Hockey

My interest in college hockey has slowly increased as my interest in the NHL has decreased. I share Red Wing tickets and in recent season's they have significantly increased the noise level at Joe Louis Arena. That fact, combined with the perception that they are just going through the motions during most regular season games have soured me. Interestingly enough, I just mentioned to a friend yesterday while watching the US Open and hearing they have sold out of tickets for 24 years that it must be like the Frozen Four. I remember one year I was back East for the Frozen Four and noted the abundance of Minnesota & North Dakota "colors" when neither school had a dog in the hunt.......same people, year after year.

Re: State of College Hockey

Just wondering about the general enthusiasm and interest in college hockey across the country. I have been a season ticket holder in Gopher land since the 70's. Did not renew them this year. Really discouraged by the early exits of players; players playing like they are saving themselves for bigger and better things; the ridiculous prices of tickets; and equally ridiculous price of "season parking"; the corporate environment of the crowds (come late / leave early); lack of student ticket availability. Note: I realize the irony of that last complaint since I haven't been a student at MN for over 30 years. But I really enjoyed the student enthusiasm at the former home of Gophers (Williams Arena).

And of course can't ignore the on-ice results; Gopher weekend hockey used to be highlight of our weekend. There's always the T-Wolves, Wild.... maybe there are some Jr teams looking to relocate here.

Must be a Minnesota thing because thats not the case here in Wisconsin.
