Star Wars IX: rumors, spoilers beware!!!

No matter how much separation from the first nine, this will be the general sentiment. Like Rogue One was considered Star Wars 3.5 or whatever.

From a timeline perspective it was.

Also they didn't affix a Roman numeral designation to Solo. For all we know X is nothing more than a tagging during these early stages of development to indicate it will be a 10th installment and leads to another trilogy, but will have nothing to do with the actual title used.

It wasn't affixed, but the general fandom will affix it themselves, you know? Might as well roll with it. *shrug*

It isn't a matter of not liking the news. I don't believe this is more than a fanboy's fever dream. And I don't care if George "Maclunkey" Lucas is upset with KK or Iger or Disney. What is more telling is that she is allowing Lucas to consult. She could tell Filoni to forget it, but Dave and George have a long history of collaboration and have created some great things. Its a sign of KK's ability as a producer that Lucas is in the loop at all.

This. The click bait fancasting is so blatantly fake it defies imagination why anyone believes it.

Rogue One was part of the existing storyline.

But, Star Wars is big enough overall, that the next movie will be generally referred to as Star Wars X. Storyline or not, the general public will call it that.

Re: Star Wars IX: rumors, spoilers beware!!!

I'm copying this from an email I received today from Star Wars Books (starwars@e.randomhousebooks.com). If you're a SW reader, this is for you. If you're not, then just know that they're eliminating a period of time for current/near-future TV shows and movies, roughly 200 years prior to The Phantom Menace.

Lucasfilm to Launch
The High Republic Publishing Program

Later this year, Lucasfilm will launch an epic new era of Star Wars storytelling that will be explored through multiple voices in adult and young adult novels, children’s books, and comics from a variety of publishers including Disney Lucasfilm Press, Del Rey, IDW Publishing, and Marvel.

Star Wars: The High Republic, which has previously been referred to as “Project Luminous,” will be set in an era when the Galactic Republic and the Jedi Order are at their zenith, about 200 years before the events of Star Wars: The Phantom Menace. This period on the Star Wars timeline will not overlap any of the filmed features or series currently planned for production, giving creators and partners a vast amount of room to tell Star Wars stories with new adventures and original characters.

I'm very excited about this. I listen to the stories on Audible and love them. Right now these are just going to be books and comics, but LF said this is Phase I. If fans react well to these stories I could see them launching TV shows, video games and even a movie in several years.

I’m interested in the novels, but can’t realistically expect to read the comic books.

No, I don't read them either. I let Alex Damon and Ken Napzok keep me up to date. A video game might be cool, but I have found I can't play many modern games. I grew up with the old Atari 2600 joystick and the ColecoVision controller. I looked at the map for the controls of Battlefront II and there is just no way. I stick to sports games where I can't screw things up too badly.

This. I have a little more modern video gaming, but when it comes to the stuff like GTA, or Battlefield: Kill Them All that require 8 buttons to do anything, and combo pressing of buttons...I'm less skilled than a 3 year old.

I want a video game to be relaxing, and learning 836 different moves, depending on the buttons you push...not for me. :)

As far as the comics/novels...nah. I was only recently (relatively) convinced to watch The Mandalorian (which is kick arse), and still have held out on The Clone Wars. I'm pretty much a basic fan of the Star Wars Movies, and that's good enough for me.

I tried to learn a few basic skill moves in FIFA and failed miserably. Watched YouTube videos and tried to emulate what I saw. Then I realized...I'm doing all this work to PLAY A FREAKING VIDEO GAME! Then logged off.

If you have a long commute or some free time, I would recommend giving the audio version of the books a try. They have great narration, full orchestration and all the sound effects. It's like watching a movie. I have a lot of downtime so it makes sense for me. If you don't then don't go out of your way.

Re: Star Wars IX: rumors, spoilers beware!!!

I despise audio books, and to a lesser extent, podcasts. If I want talk radio, I'll listen to talk radio (and by that, I mean the 5-10 minutes of radio morning shows on a commute). :)

Re: Star Wars IX: rumors, spoilers beware!!!

You’re missing out. Very few books are going to convey directly the author’s intent like listening to a podcast. Hardcore History’s Blueprint for Armageddon is a ****ing masterpiece. I don’t know if I’d compare it to The Second World War or The Third Reich (not sure there’s an equivalent for WWI) but my god, I’ve never heard or read anything like it.
