St. Thomas 2023-2024

Next game on Thursday. Good opportunity here.
Yes, the Hockey Hall of Fame game in Maple Grove against Mankato. Considering how tough the Mavericks played the Gophers this past weekend this will be an excellent contest between two teams with no points to show for their efforts against the rest of the WCHA. Word is that the arena will be packed. See the write up on the WCHA site for ticket information.

Big boost for St. Thomas in the Maple Grove Hockey Hall of Fame game. Even though it might be an unofficial game, they pasted Mankato 4 to 1. Lots of talk comparing this score to the recent Gopher/Maverick series.
Mankato once again scored first, but the second period saw the Tommies take control and not let up till the final horn.
An excellent crowd, announced as 1300, would show as a sellout for the TCO Arena in Maple Grove. Some PWHL players introduced during the 1st intermission, with Minnesota male Hockey Hall of Famers introduced during the 2nd intermission. A well organized and run event all around, with ice time for a lot of young women between periods and proceeds going to a good cause.

This was a non-conference game. Not a real important detail, but interesting to note.

Since no one has commented on it yet, the WCHA has Tommies listed at all four positions for their players of the week. Sure, maybe the Hall of Fame game was the only game of the week, but for a St. Thomas fan, and for the team, that has to be a screenshot to treasure.

Interested in what you feel a successful season would be in the second half for this team. Getting swept by UMD and St. Cloud had to be disappointing to say the least even as underdogs. Next few weeks against BSU and MSU should bring a little reprieve and a few wins, but lots of work to do. Can't say I'm surprised, talent is young and still developing but would be nice to see them steal a game or two from someone other than the bottom two WCHA teams.

Watched the game vs Cornell today, decent outing by Frank in goal. Score could have easily been a lot worse than 4-1, she stopped some really nice chances. St. Thomas had 14 shots on goal, but only about 5 real good scoring opportunities. Not playing as a team and lots of lapses on D allowing Cornell to get some juicy looks. This team is a long ways away right now, talent is there but team play isn't improving. Hats off to Cornell, they may give the Gophers a good run tomorrow.

With the 4-3 win over Harvard, St. Thomas is 1-1 all sports against the Crimson this season. Way to go women’s hockey!!!, (after the beat down the football team took). Roll Toms.

I have to say that I'm surprised that St. Thomas still has no points in WCHA ranking this far into the season. With a good showing in the Maple Grove Hall of Fame game, and a victory over Harvard, I would have hoped for something in the point column by now. With Bemidji coming to town, I expect to see that change. There are freshmen that can score on this team, which should make for an interesting matchup with the blocking Beavers. Those Beavers got two goals off Vetter on Saturday, so I hope the Tommies are mentally prepared for a tough game. The pieces are being assembled for an competitive team. I just hope that they aren't waiting for a new arena show us that.

The weekend results against the Mavericks were a real disappointment. I thought they would get one game for sure. Now, I hope for at least one against the Beavers.

Mission accomplished. Now let's go for the sweep. Ella Boerger is leading the team in scoring. From game one she has been a standout on the ice. There are good things happening with team. I don't see them as a threat to the top 3 this year, but the future sure looks bright.

Cool to see Emma during the first intermission on the PWHL Min-Tor game broadcast tonight. Nice to see college hockey featured in the PWHL. She did a great job!

Ella Boerger was pretty good, too ;)

She has stood out since her first game with St. Thomas. That was so nice to see the PWHL featuring local hockey from the newcomers at St. Thomas. They have their work cut out for them this coming weekend. Good luck in Madison.

It is looking like it's time to say 'Wait until next year' for St. Thomas fans. They have a difficult finish in the WCHA, and appear unlikely to move from the bottom of the standings. After the Hall of Fame game, where they put it to the Mavericks, I thought we would see some upwards mobility. I am sure that the coaching staff expected the same.
There are no cupcakes when the bottom four play each other so my hope is that there are no injuries to any of the players, and they can look forward to progress next year.
