St. Lawrence University Skating Saints - 2015-2016

Well............if any of you posters here were at the game....we'd sure like a play by play of what happened. Those of us watching lost the feed right at the start of OT.
How was the winning goal scored?
Heard it went in off a Q player....true?
What happened at the end of the game?
Heard no hand shakes per Pecknold??? Also heard Kyle skated by the Q bench and had words? True?

Any and all updates from anyone there are appreciated.

Huge two points....huge win....huge win for ranking points should that come into play down the line. Way to go Saints!!!! Don't let down tomorrow night. Petal to the metal against Princeton!!!!

I know Valentine's Day is coming, but it's pedal to the metal. :)

This is what I heard from somebody I trust with my life and who was at the game: 1) Anas had the puck in our zone and thought he should of had a whistle but got none........we went the other way and scored in a scrum where the puck deflected off a Q'Pac player; 2) Pecknold was incensed after the GWG - probably because the whistle wasn't blown before we headed up ice - that he told ALL of his players to NOT shake hands; 3) After about 2 mins. of booing by our fans, Pecknold shook hands with our coaches; and 4) we had no discussion about Hayton except that he was really run at late in the 2nd period.

I got the SLU video feed back, but it showed the Zamboni cleaning the ice before the game. I next scrambled to get the SLU Audio going, and got it just after the GWG was scored.

Unless Pecknold had a safety-related reason for his actions after the GWG, I hope the league fines and/or suspends him. Great win by the Saints.

FWIW, we are tied for 17th with CCT in the PWR after this win. We have earned our way back into the NCAA discussion, at least for tonight.

Speaking of CCT, several of their fans were calling for Casey Jones' head two months ago on the Clarkson Roundtable. It's amazing how things can turn around, as Casey would get my vote right now for ECAC Coach of the Year. Should we call those who wanted him gone the Golden Mights? :)

Way to go, Saints!!! So happy you guys won! Pecknold's antics are unbelievable. Go get 'em into the playoffs!

Awesome win for the Saints. Pecknold really instructed his players to not shake hands? Wow

On the Facebook SLU fan page, one of the fans who was at the game posted a cell phone video of an incident behind the play just before the winning goal was scored, and I assume that's what Pecknold was complaining about. Nolan Gluchowski and Travis St. Denis were next to each other, and St. Denis fell to the ice as if injured. It's hard to tell exactly what happened, but it looks like Gluchowski did do something to him with his stick. Whether it was severe enough to cause St. Denis to crumple or whether he embellished, I can't tell. The ref was right there, but I also can't tell if he was looking at them or up ice.

I saw likewise, but agree that it's difficult to know for sure based on the poor angle and not fantastic quality. I'd really like to think Gluchowski would know better, but who knows.

You know, it's kinda a shame that it seems every game against QU has some sort of controversy. 2 teams that have had some very good, high quality games in recent years.

Maybe it's a question of whether Nolan learned from getting thrown out for spearing a month or so ago, or whether the spots are still on the leopard.

And yeah, it's very disappointing that all this happened when: 1) we beat the #1 team in the country; 2) these two teams typically put on the best show of just about anybody.

Back from Appleton.Kudos to all of us fools who went out to the game tonight.-25 below showed up on the dash on the way home.
Good performance when there could have been a letdown after last night.Too bad Brey couldn't get the shutout.

Re: St. Lawrence University Skating Saints - 2015-2016

What an excellent weekend that was!!! We jumped a lot in the pairwise rankings this weekend and we now sit at the 14th spot and directly on the bubble for an NCAA berth. Obviously there is a lot of hockey left to be played, but still considering where we were a couple of weeks ago, who would have actually thought we still had a shot at getting back into the thick of things in the pairwise standings? I know I sure didn't. Keep it up Saints! :)

Re: St. Lawrence University Skating Saints - 2015-2016

For those wondering why "classless" Rand sent his team into the locker room it was cause Hayton did something similar to this, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2Tbtn_1mTUM. So you tell me who is "classless" now.

You guys have a good team that always matches up well with us. Good luck and I'm sure we'll see ya down the road

I thought we definitely had a good shot if we kept winning, though I wasn't expecting quite this big a jump this quickly. Beating the #1 team gives you quite a boost. And some of our non-conference opponents have been helping us out by bouncing back from bad first halves and improving our strength of schedule, which is hugely important in the PWR -- Miami, UVM, and especially Northeastern, who have gone a whopping 9-1-1 since driving up to Canton. If we can beat either Yale or Harvard, we should get another good boost.

I'm wondering where you saw us at 14. Both USCHO and CHN show us at 15... which is one spot below the last possible at-large position currently.

Pecknold. Yes, we know that Hayton did that. And he was given an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty for it, which is appropriate. But if that really is what caused Pecknold to yank his team off the ice, and I don't know if it is, that's a ridiculous overreaction, and it just demonstrates that he doesn't have the "class" -- the emotional maturity -- to be a coach, to be a leader, to rise above stuff like that. And it's really a shame, because Q and SLU consistently play some of the best games in college hockey.

If he pulled the team off the ice because of that, he did so to avoid a full-scale brawl. That's not classless, it's trying to avoid an ugly situation. The Bobcats are not the only ones to blame for that scenario.

That's just speculation. You don't know why he pulled them off, and as I said, neither do I. All we know is that numerous fans who were there reported that he was screaming and shoving his players, and that he appeared to be very reluctant to shake Greg Carvel's hand. The whole thing is very muddy, so who knows what the truth is, but that sounds like creating or escalating an ugly situation rather than trying to avoid one.

The truth, as always, is probably somewhere in the middle. I'm sure there's plenty of blame to go around, though each side will think the other side is fully to blame.

Oops, you're right, I must have looked at it incorrectly. We are in fact at 15th. Still a great position to be at considering where we were just a few short weeks ago! :)

The one thing we do have to go off from is in his post-game interview he mentioned how he can't comment on the ECAC ref's because he would get himself into trouble (or something along those lines). That isn't indicative of someone who is upset because the opposing goalie DID get an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty at the end of the game, but is indicative of someone who was upset because of something he felt wronged on by the referees. If that was in fact his reasoning for doing what he did, then that is 100% completely unacceptable in my opinion. As was stated below, there is and always will be (hello, this is a sport lol) fan base bias and it will never change. However, chalking up what people saw as something negative against your teams coach to being completely false on the basis of coming from fans of the opposing team is the very same fan base bias that you spoke of earlier.

With that being said, I wish your team good luck the rest of the way. We need you to knock off some of the teams around us to help us in the standings. I would say that I hope to see you guys in March, but I can't say as if I feel confident saying I hope to meet the number 1 team in the country in the playoffs!:p

Yeah. I said earlier in this thread that my assumption was that he was upset about the behind-the-play incident between Nolan Gluchowski and Travis St. Denis just before the winning goal, the details of which were very difficult to discern from the available cell phone video.
