St. Lawrence University Skating Saints - 2015-2016

Re: St. Lawrence University Skating Saints - 2015-2016

Well, we got the kiss of death so to speak and we were picked to sweep this weekend by 5-2 and 6-3 scores. Let's get the job done boys, matching these picks would certainly be a successful weekend, that's for sure! :)

Vermont, 46th out of 60 teams in the PWR before tonight's game and absent its starting goalie and 3 other players smokes us 4-0 to win its 6th-straight against SLU. To add insult to injury, 4 different of our players broke their sticks on a SLU powerplay in the 3rd; I've never seen that.

While it was not our night, we got what we deserved. Aka: We got smoked.

Well, the pick for Friday was "only" off by 7 goals.

That was . . . well, I probably shouldn't say how I really felt. Of all games to see in person. I think quite a few things need to change tomorrow. For starters, SLU just can't get out-competed.

I actually didn't catch the game last night (holiday Christmas party time), but I am hopeful that it was just a one game slip and we will right the ship tonight. We have struggled against UVM for the past few years and for whatever reason they really seem to have our number. We need to figure out how to break down their defense, get shots to the net, be in position for rebounds and bury our chances. No better time then now to get it done! I have a pretty strong feeling we will see a completely different team tonight.

Saints
Good luck against Vermont tonight .... we (ECAC) need the win to keep us ahead of HE and NCHC.

On the surface it looks like he will be coming in with 2.5 years of eligibility and will likely need to sit out the first half of next year. Stats and his info are here:

http://www.eliteprospects.com/player.php?player=143640

It appears he is an offensive minded defenseman. Boy this SLU team and future teams are stacked at defense and half lots of depth!

Congrats to all on this commitment!

I have no clue when Garrett Cecere can starting playing for us and less idea of the number of seasons. This is based on having even less of an idea why Christian Horn can only play 2 seasons for us. Can somebody please enlighten me on both players' eligibility and the NCAA rules governing such.

Speaking of the NCAA and if the stupid "Lucia Rule" about age limits gets passed, I hope all-54 non-BIG Hockey Schools refuse to play any BIG School in any OOC games. That would ensure - due to PWR computation formulas - that only one BIG School would make the NCAA Tournament each season (the Playoff Champion of the BIG).

Well.........Tim and I sat there at Gutterson like two bumps on a log. Nothing to cheer about, not a thing to feel positive about.

As a fan.......one hate's to be overly critical about your team...........but, it's comforting when your coach puts exactly your sentiments into words.

Based on that article, the bus ride back from Burlington was probably not much fun. But, man did the Saints respond tonight, with a complete team effort and two powerplay goals. 10-5-2 at the half-way point is quite impressive. The second half - and playoffs - should be a lot of fun.

I'm reading reports that the McDonalds in Canton is closing. Does this impact your goalie situation?

Joe you are always too funny. True story here, a few years ago Potsdam State had a goalie who loved McDonalds. In fact, the bus stopped on the way to Skidmore in Warrensburg to grab a quick bite before continuing to Skidmore for a 2 games. The goalie had an affection for McDonald's cheeseburgers. He ate a few as the bus moved on to Skidmore. The next day the team returned to the bus for a morning skate. The goalie had decided to use the window sill on the bus as a fridge. He gobbled the 2 remaining cheeseburgers down before the practice. I still recall this story and get a chuckle every time I tell it.

Hey does anyone know the deal with Brian Ward? He is listed as a senior on USCHO/StL website but according to elite prospects he's only in his 3rd year. Is this a situation like Carmine Guerrierio where he played juniors as a 21yo so his clock started his last year at Tri-City?

Transfer from Dartmouth

Re: St. Lawrence University Skating Saints - 2015-2016

Thanks since he never played a game, Dartmouth didn't make it on elite prospects I guess.
After one year with Tri-City, Ward appeared poised to play at Dartmouth. But during the summer before he started classes, Ward injured his back while working. The injury lingered into the fall, and Ward was not healthy enough to play. When he did return, Ward practiced with the Big Green but did not participate in any games. After one semester in Hanover, he made the difficult decision to leave Dartmouth and return to play with Tri-City.....http://valleypatriot.com/ward-commits-to-st-lawrence-keeps-nhl-dream-alive/
