St. Lawrence University Skating Saints - 2015-2016

Re: St. Lawrence University Skating Saints - 2015-2016

Agreed. Princeton had their chances tonight, but Hayton stood tall for most of them. Some good finishing by our guys, but when do we start declining powerplays?

Quinnipiac has now played 4 games in 7 nights, including 65 minutes tonight. Hopefully they are a little flat tomorrow, with SLU only having played 2 games in that same stretch.

I saw someone else point this out over on the St. Lawrence Hockey Fans Facebook page. I agree, it is a blessing for the potential of some tired legs on the opposite bench. Hopefully it pans out as a benefit for us. We need to take advantage of this and use our speed, which is already a strength of ours, to it's maximum against them. Play hard and the rest should fall into place. You got this guys!

I did not get to watch or listen tonight but was pleased to see the result. I was surprised however to see how many SOG both teams had. It must have been back and forth with that many shots. Hope we don't get into that paradigm of getting out shot but winning. It worked last year I guess. It would scare me to give up that many shots to Q Pac though as I don't think the result will be the same.

You can't predict who will come out hard, who will have the jump, etc. Just hope we are at our best as I think we will need it.

Well Clarkson certainly softened them up for SLU toknight :D . Now lets see how much they PO'd them  . I'm gonna be at Prinny toknight and hope I do not see the same debacle that I saw last season :( . Good luck SLU.

Well, here we go ... Tonight's game will be telling as it is a really big early season test for the guys. Play your hearts out and good things will happen ... Let's Go Saints!!!

Re: St. Lawrence University Skating Saints - 2015-2016

That was a pretty fantastic hockey game. Very exciting, and a well deserved tie for both teams.

I'll gladly take the point and run away from Hamden.

Fantastic game. Tonight was the 119th tie in our history, and our all-time record is now 1,053-909-119. That's 2,081 games - and I am fairly certain that tonight was the first time that we ever played to a 0-0 tie. My Q'Pac feed froze about 8:00 into the third, so switched to SLU Audio.

Agreed. That was as fine a college hockey game as I've seen in quite some time. The result was fitting. Neither team deserved to lose. End to end action. Great passing, lot's of hitting.......got very chippy at times. Hayton played great. Garteig played better (if that's possible.) I really thought we had the better of the scoring chances in total. I'll give Q credit. I thought we really controlled a lot of the play in the first and second....but at the start of the third Q came out strong and hard just when I was thinking they would be out of gas. The fact that both teams roll 4 lines made a difference I guess. That was an NHL caliber performance by Garteig and the save on the goal that wasn't a goal was just incredible. I was half out of my seat ready to cheer on a goal and the next thing I know he flashes his stick and pops the puck into his glove. I really thought we did a great job of hustling, limiting their chances.....our kill was excellent. Really impressed with guys like Lough, Sullivan, Laidley and McGovern who back check like crazy and just don't want to lose puck battles.
Really an enjoyable game except for watching Pecknold constantly screaming at the referee's. He was ballistic at times tonight and I am shocked he didn't receive a bench minor at some point for his behavior. Reading his comments in the SLU summary takes my dislike for him to an even higher level. But....don't want that to detract from what was a GREAT college hockey game between two skilled and excellent teams.

We've had 6 in the last 8 years. The ultimate good news/bad news situation.

If you haven't seen the save Garteig made in the second period that Mike mentioned . . . find it and watch it. You will not see a more impressive save anywhere at any level.

Edit: It's #4 on SC Top 10 today.

Saw it on SportsCenter. WOW is all I can say.

Not sure if there are any of you here who don't frequent the Facebook fan page, but Carvel signed a multi-year extension recently. Fantastic news!

I saw this posted there as well. Fantastic news indeed! Much deserved for Coach Carvel. The program is certainly headed in the right direction for the future and this is a great accomplishment considering he took over for one of the greatest coaches in the history of the game (if not then certainly one of the classiest). Congrats to Coach Carvel! :)

Well the Saints are on the road for two big ECAC games. Hopefully they are well rested and come out with some zip!

I know the Tupper Lake crew is making the trip. Bring back four points!

I had all intentions of making this trip this season (it's always fun to go to Lynah!). However, that didn't quite work out, so I will be enjoying from the comforts of my living room. Hoping to see the same effort as we got against Quinnipiac. If that team shows up we will (or should) win both games. Let's Go Saints!!! :)

Re: St. Lawrence University Skating Saints - 2015-2016

Well.........getting two points at Lynah is never easy and tonight proved no exception.
I was worried we'd have some rink rust after having last weekend off. Only listened to parts of the game.........the radio feed was difficult to listen to. Heard some other folks had the same problem last week. Sounds like there are two stations broadcasting at the same time. The game and then a regular broadcast in the background. Anyone else have the same problem on the SLU Wolf feed??

After tonight is sort of makes tomorrow night a "must win" game. Just our luck that it appears Colgate after a miserable stretch where they couldn't do a thing right....happened to beat Clarkson tonight. Looked like a pretty even game from the stats. Hope the boys come out for their last appearance at that ice box they call Star with their guns a blazing. We need to score some goals!!!

As for the SLU Audio, I've been having the same problem..........I think one game I could hear ESPN 3 in the background, of all things. Also, the feed keeps cutting out. Got so frustrated when the feed cut and stayed out midway through the third that I switched to Cornell Audio. So, can somebody please tame The WOLF?

Tonight makes me nervous. Colgate has had our number in recent years. We'll likely get smoked if we come out flat like we did at Cornell. It is still a great week, though, no matter tonight's result because 'Carvy has re-upped. We are lucky to have him running the show.
