St. Lawrence University 2013-2014: Carey, Carey, carry us to Placid ... And beyond?

Re: St. Lawrence University 2013-2014: Carey, Carey, carry us to Placid ... And beyon

Middlebury would be great because their fanbase could chant in ten languages.

They'd also fit right in culturally. (This is not an unmitigated compliment.)

After that self-serving, arrogant ********* Keenan McCardell (president of Middlebury) led the charge to kill all the D3 schools that play up in a sport including RPI, SLU, Clarkson and Colorado College hockey at the time, I wouldn't even invite him to watch Bachelor reruns let alone join our league even if the new NCAA by-laws allowed for it.

I am sure UVM will stick in HE, then again, they remain an 'unconventional' state school with no football, more academic orientation and they are not a jesuit school like Providence or Merrimack. They remain a better fit for the ECAC. Assuming that won't happen, RIT would be fine. Really, the school I'd love to join is Miami of OH. I can't say that is out of the question since the inaugural seasons of both the NCHC or WCHA have been a smashing success.

Huh. That's an idea I've not heard before.

I can't see anybody leaving the NCHC -- it looks like a license to print money.

The BigN is likewise off limits.

The ~WCHA is a hot mess, but I'm not sure any of their members fits the ECAC academically. MTU maybe? I dunno.

Completely, utterly, by reputation only grading of academic rep, grouped by conference, with the obvious proviso that it's the kid you send to the school not the school where you send the kid:

Re: St. Lawrence University 2013-2014: Carey, Carey, carry us to Placid ... And beyon

NCAA Legislation 2010-100 says no more play-ups. So the D-III hockey playing schools still playing D-III can't move up to D-I anymore. D-II's can still play with the big boys as there is no national championship in D-II for ice hockey.

What would be intriguing would be to split the Ivy's and the ECAC, give Q the boot and then form the Empire Hockey Conference with
SLU \
CCT \
RPI -----> The Liberty League
Union /
RIT /
Colgate
Canisius
Niagara

8 teams, 28 conference games and a nice TV package with somebody - and don't say Time Warner.

Didn't realize the rules. But why wouldn't you kill a sports program that might compete and put your school on a higher stage.. as for Time Warner will trade you for Comcast...

Re: St. Lawrence University 2013-2014: Carey, Carey, carry us to Placid ... And beyon

Looking forward to this weekend and two exciting games with you guys ;)

Same here. We were hoping for at least three games to make it more interesting. On another note I have been happy and excited to read about you guys finally getting approvals together for a new arena. The very first time I went to Starr I came on a long ride directly from work and had on dress shoes and a sport jacket. I think it was the coldest I have ever been in my life watching the game there.
You obviously had your way with us during the regular season but it is a new season now. Here's hoping for three very well played games.

Anyone planning on making the trek to Hamilton for the games? I wish I could, but work comes first and the drive is quite the haul ... But if we are lucky enough (note how I made sure to state lucky as I feel that it will take a lot of that this weekend) to get to Lake Placid, I will be there no matter what.

I don't know if I could handle a Sunday quarterfinal game with a chance to get to Lake Placid in the balance. I already have gnawed my finger nails down to the stubble with this past weekends games ... I know, I am ridiculously silly ;)

I like how you post these Spaceman! Keep them coming, it is great to see our future Saints and their stats. I always find it interesting how their numbers transition into the college level :)

UVM and UMass are above Lowell and UNH... ;) you need a B- category :D

And a D for Q-Pac, Robert Morris and UNO, all fundamentally commuter schools. Pretty dead on grades otherwise. I might give CC an A. That's a pretty tough ticket (if you're not a hockey player)
