St. Lawrence University 2013-2014: Carey, Carey, carry us to Placid ... And beyond?

Re: St. Lawrence University 2013-2014: Carey, Carey, carry us to Placid ... And beyon

Not to take sides here or nothing (in reality I think they both should be ashamed), but it appears to me that what started it was Bodie's cross check to the face at the very end of the game. Then all hell broke loose from both ends. Coach Bennett deserves a couple games, or three ... or more

Well, I think it is safe to say that tape will makes its way across the street to the league offices. There will be supplemental discipline for sure or the league will be sending the wrong message. The problem that was obvious is the RPI guys came off the bench and jumped in the middle. It may have been after the horn, but that's not good. Don't know who it was on the RPI bench that pushed Bennett in the shoulder, but that was also pretty gutless. If you are going to go, go. I am not sure Bodie should have been DQ'd for fighting (from what was on there), but he should be for Cross-Checking / High-Sticking.

Probably not the display they were hoping for at the Mayor's Cup / TUC, but **** happens.

I didn't catch it the first time, and I don't know what his intentions were, but it looked like Bennett actually punched an RPI player. That to me is way worse than anything else that happened.

I guess for our sake....it's always nice when something as big as that melee happens, which deflects all the attention from Saturday nights debacle against Gate.

Getting back to last night's action at Starr Rink, one thing I really enjoyed.... was the free 'gate HD stream. Overall it was pretty good and the closeness of the camera gave you a real clear look at the players. Good job Colgate. Now, on the other hand there were some things I wish I didn't see!

The HD stream was good..................the result was not. We do have a lot of work to do, but at least we won't have a coach suspended. I don't think the Union Coach goes to the NC. He really lost it, aka Joe at Brown (I think his first year, '85-'86). Thit happens.

You guys aren't bad; you tied Cornell, which is an achievement in itself. I was very impressed how you came out on fire in the first period last night. Just couldn't sustain it as 'Gate went into high gear. Finally got to see the Carey Bros play; you've got some good talent on the team. We 'Gate fans have been there - keep your chins up. Better days ahead :) Good luck the rest of the season.

We are a team that anybody should be licking their chops to play. Since November, the sum of the parts is much less than the sum of the individuals, for whatever reason. There are a lot of quality hockey players, and more importantly, quality young men in that dressing room that deserve a better fate than they are getting right now.

The past 2 months has been almost the same story game in and game out. Very poor defense, goaltending and penalty kill. Average, at best, 5 on 5. Above average power play that cannot win the game by itself. And a diminished (arguably disappeared) threat of secondary scoring.

All the things that we were doing right for the first 6 weeks has ceased to happen. The things we were getting away with is now hurting us, seemingly every instance that we make a mistake. I have no doubt that SLU will dig out of this hole, but the question is if it will happen before October.

Well the Saints need to create their own breaks, but it looks like Union will help them out too. The Dutchmen just suspended their coach, Rick Bennett, for two games. That means they'll be facing SLU without their coach, their best defenseman and their 2nd line center next Friday night.

Obviously the Skating Saints will still need to play one of their best hockey games to compete. They can do, let's hope Friday is the new start we have been looking for.

Might be more than that. The league hasn't had their say yet.

2 games? Wow. I was thinking he'd be lucky to still have a job next week. He hit one of the opposing players.

I was thinking the discipline from the University would be much more severe than from the league. Looks like those in charge at Union didn't think it was too big a deal if it is only 2 games. I'm shocked the University is letting it slide with a slap on the wrist.

It's probably the same reason why, in that one movie, Happy Gilmore wasn't thrown off the tour for fighting Bob Barker. The school's notoriety is too dependent on him, because they don't have anything else.

I'm making my first trip up to the NC this weekend. What is the best way to get tickets and where are some good places to eat in the area?

Speaking in regards to Appleton, you should be fine to walk up and buy tickets at the door, I would imagine it would be the same at Cheel as well. Doors open at 6:00, get there around 5:45 and you should be fine ...

In Canton, the Club is a decent restaurant for a full sit down meal. Sergi's is a really nice Italian restaurant with great food (famous Pizza Rolls). In Potsdam there is Between the Buns, which is quite delicious as well (really good Burger there). If you're willing to drive an extra 15 minutes into Ogdensburg then I would highly recommend Busters, always enjoyed my time there and the food is excellent.

Been two years since I was in Canton and my guess is everything that was open then, might not be open now. You are not headed to the epicenter of gastronomic wonder. I'd pack a lunch. Lot's of forgettable places. Several including Pizza Hut where stories of lore abound about opposing teams getting rather ill after dining there.

As to tickets.....SLU typically does not sell out. You can call the ticket office: (315-229-5696) or, I don't think you'd be in much jeopardy buying at the door. There isn't a bad seat at Appleton.

Thanks for the recommendations. I'm glad to hear that I should be able to get tickets at the door. I usually like to get tickets in advance but my travel plans are contingent on the weather and would hate to shell out the money for tickets and not use them. Excited to see the NC buildings for the first time, plenty of history and tradition up there.

Canton has always been pretty rough for food options and I never really understood why. Potsdam actually has quite a bit more in terms of dining options and some are quite nice. There are a few new ones (The Hop, Between the Buns) and some old reliables (Mama Lucia's, Eben Hearth, Maxfields, Scoops), definitely more than Canton has.

No problem at all, always glad to help. You'll love both arenas and they are both completely different in terms of atmosphere and style. It's a great time at both buildings, enjoy!

I've heard the legend of the Canton Pizza Hut. It's one of my favorite stories of ECAC travel lore. Thanks for the advice!
