Re: St Lawrence Hockey

4-0 final for the Saints on Joe Marsh night. It was a good game early on as UAH's tender made some pretty good saves. But alas the Saints had a little too much for the Chargers this evening. The ceremony recognizing Joe was a tough one to watch for me personally as I identify Saints hockey as Joe Marsh and vice versa. I think Greg is going to do great things with the program as time passes, excellent choice for the HC. I will also mention that UAH skated hard and played a very clean contest. They are a hard working bunch and who knows what could happen tomorrow night?

Re: St Lawrence Hockey

Nice win last night Saints! The ceremony to honor coach marsh was amasing. It brought back alot of good memories from watching him and his teams over the years. anyone wish to share some of their most memorable moments of joe and his teams!

Re: St Lawrence Hockey

I hang my head in shame as I missed that goal. I was busy chatting away with another poster from USCHO and missed it completely.

Re: St Lawrence Hockey

Another sweep for the Saints, great job! The 5-1-0 record in the first 6 games is the best for the Saints since the 1999-2000 team!

Re: St Lawrence Hockey

Good job by the boys taking care of business tonight. Would have liked seeing another shutout, but a win is a win.

Time to kick off the league schedule in our favorite place.

Oh, and I realize that we are but 4 weeks into the season, but just for laughs, if the season ended today, we would be the #2 overall seed in the tournament ;)

Re: St Lawrence Hockey

I'll start first by thanking Pat for everything. Your friendship, and those made over the years with countless other SLU fans and with a few fans of other teams, means much more to me than the outcome of any of the games. As for the games, I was impressed with both teams and with the officiating. It was a series played the way the game of hockey should be played and the officials didn't miss any calls imo. UAH never quit and their fans should be proud of that team. SLU looked really solid and is vastly improved this year, at least thus far. As for the fans, it was great to see the rink packed both nights and the student section was awesome (note: I'm quite certain that the attendance figures listed by SLU in the box scores do not include the number of students in attendance). As for the Joe Marsh festivities, SLU did it with class and those involved in putting the events together did a fabulous job. It was a weekend that I'll never forget, and Joe deserves everything that took place. Seeing so many coaches there from other teams on Thursday night was overwhelming and impressive. I'm sure that I missed a few, but the fans at Colgate, Cornell, Norwich, Princeton, Union, and UVM have (or had) coaches they should be very proud of.

As for for Flanagan's unassisted goal on Friday, and Carey's second goal on Saturday, stuff like that can't be taught. Incredible to watch.

Well, the team/school with a pulse (LOL) moves on to Brown and Yale. Good luck, guys.

13th in USCHO poll, 14th in USA today poll. Too early, IMO. If we sweep down south, I'll feel better about it, but I'm not sold we are a top 15 team... yet.

Re: St Lawrence Hockey

Well, league play starts this weekend. We need to come out and skate hard in both games this weekend. Lets get off to a good start to league play! GO SAINTS!

Re: St Lawrence Hockey

Go Skating Saints! It would be great to see a couple road wins over the weekend. Gotta love the start not only by the team (13th overall, 2nd in defense and 6th in offense), but also by Flanagan, Carey, and Wenninger. Hopefully we will be able to get over to the Yale Whale and catch Sat. nights game.

Go Saints Go

Re: St Lawrence Hockey

Good luck tonight Saints! Skate hard, outwork your opponent and stay out of the penalty box! GO SAINTS!

Re: St Lawrence Hockey

Hey guys,

Just wanted to drop by and say I hope the team is as good as the box scores have indicated this year. Tough to blow a two-goal lead tonight in the third, but Flanagan and Carey both with another point tonight is some good stuff. I wish I could still cover the team. I'll see some of you when SLU comes to play Colgate.

We too miss you Dan and hope to see you at the game if I make it to Colgate this year.

Re: St Lawrence Hockey

OK...........got my first look at the 2012-13 edition of the Saints tonight. Unfortunately it had to come at our personal house of horrors, a.k.a. that icebox called Meehan. One little tidbit tells you everything you need to know about the crowd tonight. They had a "chuck a puck" contest between the second and third period. I think there were about 9 pucks thrown onto the ice!!! One of the smallest crowds I have ever seen at Meehan.

As to the game........it was a lesson in what happens if you don't put out a 60 minute effort. When I got home I read the box score and was astounded to see we were outshot by a wide margin. It certainly didn't feel like it and without knowing....if you asked me what the SOG were??? I'd have pegged it the other way around. We certainly outplayed Brown for the majority of the game. We had a nice 3-0 lead and Brown had nothing going on. Then some careless play let Bruno get on the board with under a minute to play in the second and it was a different game from then on. Brown started out well in the third and we continued to play sloppy. 3-2. Then 2 minutes later we got a penalty called on us on what seemed to be an innocent, accidental collision where Essery and a Brown player turned sharply into each other and we wound up with a 2 minute call against us and in no time it was 3-3. After a couple of more Brown flurries we then went back to dominating the game for a long stretch keeping the puck mostly down the Brown end. We then started to break down regularly and the number of odd man rushes we allowed Brown to get was scary. Had we been playing a team of snipers we would have lost in regulation.

The OT was scary and we were very lucky to get out with a tie. Brown scored but from what we heard there was major league interference with Wenny and the goal was disallowed. Brown had several great chances to still win it in OT and we hung on by a thread at the end
I hope we don't look back on this game later in the year and say boy....we could have used that extra point because that game was all ours until we got very sloppy.
Have to say I was impressed by Nick Lappin. Wenny made a beautiful save on him flashing out a pad and I think Brown got themselves a nice player who will score some points.
I'll reserve any further judgement until I see the boys at Yale tomorrow night....but I will say based on their early record, I was expecting a lot more tonight than I saw. But then again it was our first ECAC game and it was the typical no room, clutch, get in your way, grinding it out game we have come to expect in our league.
