St. Cloud to NCHC

Re: St. Cloud to NCHC

Just wanted to reply quick to your signature... I checked quick, to see if my gut was wrong. It's not.

CC all-time win percentages, versus:

Michigan Tech: 0.555
Bemidji: 0.583 (hardly enough games for that to count, though)
Mankato: 0.670

Tech has had a bad few years, true. But considering I've been going to games for a very very long time, my perception that Tech is better competition than those two is actually right on.

Love the South Park clip, too. Finest thing Colorado has ever exported, that there show.

You realize that except for one almost really good year, it's been about a decade since Tech was anything close to mediocre, right?

Yep, I realize that. Mankato and Bemidji haven't been around long enough for me to remember them ever being tough, though. That's why I said what I did.

(Kind of like Notre Dame football - put them, Boise State, Utah, and TCU on the schedule, and folks are still going view Notre Dame as a challenge, possibly the biggest challenge of the bunch, and definitely the most interesting game, even though the last couple of decades haven't been kind to the Irish, and most good teams should beat them handily.)

EDIT: I fear I may wind up in your signature again, comparing Tech hockey to Notre Dame football, haha... maybe UCLA would be a better comparison. Strong past, terrible present.

I would be completely ecstatic if Notre Dame joined the NCHC. Not because I care about ND at all, but because a big part of me has a hunch that the Big Ten started this as bait to lure Notre Dame into the conference

Re: St. Cloud to NCHC

Mankato was tough in 2003, with Joseph and Stevenson. They gave everyone a run for their money that year, but were eventually trapped into submission by Cornell in the NCAA's.

If they haven't been around that long, it shouldn't be difficult for you to remember how they were.

It's not...? I don't understand what you're saying. They've been mostly mediocre (just saying it, not meaning to poke), along with Tech. Which is why I said the other day (now enshrined in Brent's sig) that I viewed Tech as the better competition. I remember a tough Tech team, I've never known a particularly tough Mankato or Bemidji. Broadly speaking...obviously there have been a lot of ups and downs for everybody.

When I saw his sig, I wanted to check win-loss records, and they confirmed my gut, that's all. Not sure how I could look at just the last 10 or so years quickly, team vs. team overall win-loss, that'd be interesting to see too.

'Cause championships from decades ago are part of the lore and tradition of Michigan Tech... but ask MTU posters on here, 80% of them are too young to remember such times.

True true.

I edited, but after your post, so I'll put it here.

Like I was adding, it's all relative too... even a mediocre 1988 Tech team would've been like playing the Red Wings for CC back then.

Mankato doesn't benefit from that historical memory in my mind when I am comparing the two. Bemidji is just too new, we've only played them half a dozen times.

So between the three, I'd rather play Tech, hands down, and I instinctively feel they have a shot of winning, even in a bad year. While I sort of expect us to beat Mankato because we always have (again, not poking, just saying that's how it's been).

Hell, my Dad wasn't a Tech student yet when they were already a thing of the past.... He saw the last GLI win.... Doesn't mean we've not grown up looking at those banners. More than all but 9 teams in college hockey.

This guy bbutzin is a lawyer and won't give up; it is not in our nature. Ha, from his 100% jump in posts in 3 days, I will assume he just took the July bar exam. Let's give him a break. :)

Haha, no. Just had time to kill for a couple days and poked in here, what with all the changes going on in college hockey, and decided to actually post for a change. Not hard to rack up a post count when you're outnumbered 10-to-1. But rest assured, I'll be gone again soon until I need score updates for untelevised games at tournament time. And in the meantime, you guys can get back to the business of hating the NCHC (and Big 10) unopposed.

"The greatest trick the Devil ever pulled was convincing the world he didn't exist. And like that, poof. He's gone."

Haha, people will remember you on here and you will be the face of the NCHC hatred by some. My Gophers may have help start this domino effect and I feel like the other schools are just taking the life rafts. The problem people have on here is that you are on one of the rafts mocking and calling some programs insignificant while they believe they are going down with the proverbial ship. That is all. Just be a little nicer and I am sure for the next two years, the crowds in Houghton, Anchorage, Bemidji, and Mankato are really going to love when CC comes to town.:)

Re: St. Cloud to NCHC

Yes, one person from Minnesota is representative of the entire state. But, by using that logic, I didn't realize Colorado was full of a bunch of a**holes. The people there have always struck me as nice.
LOL! How did me taking a jab at sue fans by comparing them to packer fans turn into everyone in Minnesota being a homophob? This stuff is too priceless sometimes...
