St. Cloud State @ Bemidji State, The Husky Beaver series in Bemidji

Re: St. Cloud State @ Bemidji State, The Husky Beaver series in Bemidji

Maybe I'm just protesting because it is out of wack in Bemidji. Don't take it personal. Until you get added hospitality space you are not maximizing the out of town dollar. You're just going to have to take my word on it because I know lots of people NOT making the trip. You are competing with Duluth and Omaha (upcoming venues) and in this economy fans will make choices. And, there is a helluva lot more to do in Omaha and Duluth so you have to compete harder.

And you seem to be missing my point that everyone up here understands that more hotel rooms are needed. And that there really isn't much that can be done about it until those two hotels are built. You want them to start, and finish, today? Look, the city has been seeking a "partner" hotel to attach to the Sanford Center since before ground breking, but it hasn't been until this past summer that they were able to strike a deal. In a perfect world, they could have built that hotel at the same time as the rink and opened both last October, but that didn't happen.

Moose, I get your point. And, I'll be driving back and forth both nights when I NEVER do that. I'll pocket the $500 minimum that would have gone into the Bemidji economy.

Your previous posts, however, come across as someone who wants a hotel built just for you at your price point and open tonight, when the reality of the business model of the city of Bemidji doesn't allow. Just saying...

Until more rooms are built, the point isn't are there enough rooms, but is the price being charged bordering on gouging? If gas were $10.00 per gallon, but there were only 100 gallons available for 20 cars, the station would still run out of gas. The point is, that if the rooms were appropriately priced, people who maybe would visit WHEN they are vacant, probably won't because they recall how much higher they were than in competing cities. It's one thing to price your commodity to make a reasonable profit, it's another to price it to take unfair advantage of your customer. THAT leaves a sour taste, and while it may not affect your prime time usage, it may affect the revenue that your community might experience in less than prime occupancy periods.

I hope you don't break down when it is this cold out. There are a few stretches where a accident or break down would not be good when it is -20 below.

This happens in every city on busy weekends. Have you ever gone to Duluth during their big youth hockey tourney? gouge city on all hotels. It is also like that for certain other weekends up there. Then you go out to eat in that town and prices are as high as minneapolis down by the lake..... From the sounds of it this is a busy weekend in Bemidji and the hotels are taking advantage of it.

Actually, I live in Duluth and work in the tourist industry. Part of your post is dead on in that weekends like "Grandma's Marathon" is a virtual clinic for hotels on how to gouge. Most places in Duluth require a 2 night minimum for that weekend and at inflated prices to boot. However, at no other particular weekend time during the year do prices change, with the exception that seasonal summer rates are higher than off-season...but not on any specific weekend. But you are 100% wrong as far as restaurants go. There is not a backroom menu that only comes out on golden weekends. Prices might be higher than you are used to paying, but it's not because the restaurants are raising them, but more possibly the area, ie; Canal Park, probably has higher prices than where you are used to eating. But I doubt that as most of the places down there are chain types and their menus and prices are no differnet than other locations in the chains. Its just possible you are suffering more from perception than reality price shock.

What does the ticket situation look like, can I walk up about 2 hours before the game and get a ticket or is that risky? I really don't feel like paying the ticketmaster fees.

You should fine Friday, either at the box office (no TM fees) or out front/in the entrance. I think tomorrow is sold out(?), but there are usually folks selling tickets. You could check Craig's List too.

Odds are not likely as it already happened the day before yesterday. I'm from Northern MN and I'll be with a guy from Roseau. Believe me we understand cold weather and will prepare accordingly. Plus the warmiong trenmd is starting.

The WCHA website cites TV-LPTV as broadcasting the games. I have no idea what that means.

Enough of the hotel / lodging talk. Eddy is back and this should be a great series. Where is Oslund tonight? Is he a healthy scratch?

Like last year this time, it is time for the Husckeys to shine! I predict they chase the Polack from the net and Sweep the series.

Yes, why not play Oslind against a physical team likeBemidji? I'd have him in the lineup every night just because he likes to hit people.

Agreed 1000%

FWIW, in almost any other situation, I'd recomend going Hwy. 64 via Motley, but it's just not worth it when it's cold or snowing. Take the extra few minutes (and slow-downs in every small town) and go Hwy 371 via Brainerd...

I would have Thorson and oslund in there over Christian and Volpie.

According to the BSU hky writer, there's now less than 100 tickets available for both nights. Still a fair amount available for walk-ups.

Three hours to face off can't wait!!! I don't get to see the Huskies on TV very often so I am going to enjoy sitting in my livingroom and watching the game. The only bad thing is it is not in HD, but I can live with that.

It will be an interesting and hard fought series. Both teams have to contain their opponent's first line and need solid production out of their second lines - and goaltending, of coarse. If either team gets swept, they can most likely kiss home ice goodbye and will be fighting not to play a top three team in the playoffs.

I'm surprised you don't get Lakeland in HD - but it beats the heck out of the B2 network.

Solid game. Both Goalies played well. BSU was surging late and looked like they were going to take the 2 points. Looking forward to tomorrows game.
