Spencer Penrose Award Finalists named

Re: Spencer Penrose Award Finalists named

Since it's awarded the day before the Final, the voting is likely over already. I don't think who wins on Thursday will have any bearing on the award. ;)

I think it is announced after the Frozen Four and awarded at the coaches conference a few weeks later (unless it is different this year).

I stand corrected. Horse's mouth: http://www.ahcahockey.com/news/1112/0327d1cy.html (Basically the same info.)

(It is a change from past years though.)
...or it could be announced today:

Congrats to Daniels, but how can this possibly be anyone other than Bazin? UML improved by 19 wins overall and 13 in conference! Ferris by 7 and 4 respectivelly. I guess getting to the FF carries a WHOLE lot more weight than a near historic year-over-year improvement.

I'll admit I'm shocked, but Congrats to Daniels.

I didn't know 3 games defined a season? You are reinforcing that the predecessor did the work bringing the guys in... Hell, I could argue that your new coach only did slightly better than coasting.

I mean, you guys had a great year but you were already primed.

Sounds like bazin

Re: Spencer Penrose Award Finalists named

I was surprised to read the other day that Jerry York has only won it once. You'd think he'd have won it at least once in the last 6 years.

Also not saying Daniels isn't deserving, but losing in your conference playoffs at home to the last-place team is no great thing. Going to the Frozen Four is, but Union and BC did it while currently being on 7 and 17-game win streaks, not a two-game win streak.

My vote would've been for Bazin though. UML's turnaround was impressive, although it might have been a home QF loss that did him in, ironically.

What an absolute joke.

If anyone can come up with one valid argument for Daniels over Bazin I'd love to hear it.

Who votes on this, anyway? I mean they're idiots obviously, but are they media, coaches or what?

Re: Spencer Penrose Award Finalists named

Shocking Bazin didn't win this.

That pretty much locks 2011-2012 UML in as a perfect mirror image of the 2008-2009 Northeastern team (neither team won squat as a team or individual awards while having their best season in a long time).

If you need cheese for your 'whine' please go to Wisconsin!

The fact that BC is an absolute wagon most years unfortunatley impacts York's candidacy; hugely unfair, but the expectation is he SHOULD win, look at what he is working with. To be honest, he should be in the mix every year.

I think Coach York is more content with winning National Championships, than individual awards.

Same reason Schafer doesn't really get serious consideration for the ECAC COTY most years. Merely meeting expectations gets you no credit - even if the expectations are so lofty only because of your own hard work and abilities!
