Re: Spencer Penrose Award Finalists named

Bazin has this thing hands down.

2011-12 Norm Bazin -------------- 24 13 1 NCAA Quarters
2010-11 Blaise Macdonald --------- 5 25 4

Re: Spencer Penrose Award Finalists named

Somebody actually bothered putting in other "finalists?" Seriously?

I know, it's like why do they bother having the other three teams go to Tampa when everyone knows the title already belongs to BC? Same thing here.

This might be the biggest no-brainer in the history of the award.

Although not everyone feels that way. Noted hack Dave Starman gave his award to Bob Daniels. Because, you know, going from 18-16-5 (.526) to 25-11-5 (.671) is totally on par with Lowell posting a 5-25-4 (.206) under MacDonald to 24-13-1 (.645) with Bazin.

Not to take anything away from Bob Daniels, but this is no contest.

Sarcasam aside, it's not the same thing. BC is a heavy favorite, but they still have to play the games, anything could happen, blah blah.

Picking COTY has no direct compeition, it's just voters making a decision. In this case, there is no decision to make. It's a gimme. Fact. Science.

Re: Spencer Penrose Award Finalists named

In fact, they should change the award name from Spencer Penrose to the Norm Bazin award.

Rick Bennett has this one in the bag. First year head coach, his team won its first ever league championship, first ever tourney games (including a win over Bazin's team), and now a trip to the Frozen Four.

April 1st is Sunday... a little early with this post.

Not everyone. BC fans are confident, as we should be, but it's other fans who are proclaiming BC is a lock.

Anyway, are the finalists really "named"? Isn't it the same thing every year? League COTYs and FF coaches?

Speaking of in the bag, you must half in the bag right now.

Taking a team full of Leaman's players to similar record and reaching the NCAA's for the second consecutive years doesn't come close to the turnaround Bazin engineered.

Re: Spencer Penrose Award Finalists named

With all due respect to Nate Leaman, a great coach.... Bennett was instrumental in recruiting many of the players on the team. I'd have Bazin second on the ballot.

So Bazin engineered turning around one consecutive year of single digit wins and Pearson engineering turning around three consecutive years of single digit wins.

Re: Spencer Penrose Award Finalists named

so bazin engineered turning around one consecutive year of single digit wins into an ncaa berth and pearson engineering turning around three consecutive years of single digit wins into a record still under .500.
