Yeah, we looked pretty listless. I know that the U-18 team has beaten or tied some very good teams but you still never like to see us lose to them.

Nevertheless, their speed and skill is impressive. skating and moving the puck seemed effortless for them.

It would be nice to get one of them to come here every once in a while.

I have pretty much accepted that this team is not going to start scoring goals. We might have 1 or 2 more games where we have an outburst but I feel like Hildebrand is gonna have to start holding teams to 1 or 0 goals if we want to go on a hot streak.

According to wiki we have McCarron coming in, which is nice because at 6'5 he'll probably increase the average size of the team two inches just by himself. On the U-17 we also have one kid.

We do not have him coming in. He de-committed quite a while ago and switched to Cornell. He then de-committed from them and now I believe is gonna go to Western.

RJ Boyd sent him for a ride tonight, though. Just about the only enjoyable thing about that game.

Also, I like Connor Wood's wheels. Anastos during his show this week mentioned that Wood was redshirted along with Krygier in order to spread the classes out a little more. I wonder why he chose those two specifically? I think we really could use Wood's speed.

Speed is something I hope improves over the years. We just need to be faster.

Well, to not become the losingest team in program history, MSU needs to win three more games. Unfortunately, I'm struggling to find three more wins on the schedule. I can see a split with BGSU and a split with PSU. That's it.

BTW, Amo went 7-27-2 in 1978.

Michigan's got 3 players on that team coming in next year. That is a pretty **** good team. They tied minnesota and notre dame, beat Michigan 5-3.

Two of the players on that team coming here actually scored goals against their future team.

This is correct.

McCarron committed to the Comley regime, he decommitted from MSU after Anastos was hired.

He committed to Cornell to play alongside his brother, but couldn't clear admissions (not an uncommon problem for the Ivies) and committed to Western back in November.

Ah, well that's what I get for trying to use wiki as a recruiting source.

After last night this PSU series scares me even more. Yes, that was the best high school all-star team the country has to offer, but we couldn't even score. The only thing we did better than them was get in the penalty box.

Also, there was a DQ last night, does that still carry over to Friday even though it was an exhibition?

Was certainly requested with Wood's Wheels too. He works hard - but should have had the one-timer in the third.

I question making this a half-freshmen lineup last night, however. Yes, it's exhibition, and it's nice to see some guys get some playing time. But not having your best available lineup out there in middle of the season, to me, doesn't do much for you the rest of the season. Besides, if we're trying to rest people, why not play Yanakeff?

The golden chances missed were the difference last night, just like last Friday night.

And we REALLY miss Bondra on the 4th line. Sucks about Berry.

Last night's result didn't scare me as much as it might have in previous years.
This was one of the biggest and best USA teams I've seen in Munn. Look who else they've taken down.
Than includes Michigan at Yost, so it was no surprise that in front of about 2500 lackluster onlookers against a team who got worn down 3 days before by big, bad Ferris State, we didn't have much of an advantage.

Eh, It doesn't count. I think most NCAA teams use this game is a chance to mess around with some things and play some guys who don't normally get out there. Despite the game itself being frustrating, I don't really care about the result now and I enjoyed getting a glimpse of Connor Wood. Though I do have no idea why Yanakeff didn't play. Maybe if we carried any sort of lead halfway through the second or into the 3rd then he would have been put out there.

But my question as to why Wood and Krygier never dress has been answered. It's because of their redshirts to spread out the classes so we don't lose half of our team again in 4 years. And with Dean Chelios returning next year along with our 3 incoming forwards, who is going to be sitting since we are only losing 3 forwards? 5 new players for 3 spots. Assuming, hopefully, nobody transfers or decides to take a foolish jump to the big leagues.

Yeah, it was just kind of a dud all around. And that team is pretty **** talented. The disparity was pretty clear at times. For as talented as a lot of NCAA teams are, the U18 team's skating/passing and puck skills were clearly a step higher than any NCAA team i've seen this year. If it wasn't for them being physically weaker then they would be extremely tough to beat.

Tonight we take on the 2nd worst defense we've faced this season. PSU comes in at 42nd with 3.00 GAA while UM sits in 54th at 3.50. We all know we have a less than stellar offense (to put it nicely), but I think these next two weeks will give us a good idea of how much the lack of scoring is our fault and how much is due to being in such a defensive league.

Of course, their goalie will probably play they the game of his life and we'll hit 5 posts.

You gotta remember that they're counting their D3 games as official. I don't think USCHO is doing that. They aren't really 9-12, they're 7-10. Doesn't seem like that much but in those games you're taking out 4 contests with just 7 goals given up. I don't feel like going through and calculating everything right now, but even if USCHO is counting them it still seems possible as looking at the schedule I see a lot of games with 4 and 5 goals given up.

Tonight we learned to not put Yanakeff in again. The first goal I'll put on the defense, but the second goal he literally didn't try to stop it and the third goal was just awful.

The offense, while scoring five, was still frustrating. Earlier in the year they were selfish and wouldn't make a pass, and now they're all looking to make the extra pass and wasting decent attempts. I feel like we could've had 7 or 8. But a win is a win and I'll take it.

Third goal was awful. I don't know what he was doing there on that one but he didn't own that puck like he should have. Yes, at times we were just woeful, both offensively and in our own zone but after dragging Team USA up and down the ice for 60 minutes 3 days earlier, not that surprising. One really good sign was a couple of clean, goal-scorer's goals for a change (from Sorenson). Now we get Berry back.

How cool was it that Carney was on the bench dressed, got in the handshake line and saluted the crowd with the rest of the team?

How did they announce Carney? I wasn't paying to much attention to the PA and then saw him skate out there. For a second I got really confused and thought "wait a minute, this can't be right, he's retired." Until they announced the sixth skater I thought he was actually starting and they were going to let him play a shift.

Please let Hildebrand play tonight. Please. I don't understand by Yanakeff didn't play against the US team if Anastos wanted to get him some reps.

PSU also tried way too hard to become the "enforcers." It was glaringly obvious they knew they didn't have the skill to keep up so they were going to try to intimidate though hits. Or maybe I'm completely wrong and they do this every game, but I have not seen so many big hits dished out in awhile.
