Sochi 2014: From Russia With Love

Re: Sochi 2014: From Russia With Love

Yea, we don't need any more pictures of my future ex-wife :p
Maybe Torah Bright for the rebound? ;)

Sorry haven't tracked down any good image links yet.

I'm thinking Canuck skater Kaetlyn Osmond is pretty sufficient.

Brooky-you're a bit late. i was in love with her first from the earliest events last week. I posted her name as my #1 choice-even though i am old enough to be her grandfather. I don't think I ever watched a snow board event with the same intensity ever before.:)

If that "intensity" lasts for more than four hours, be sure to call a doctor. Oh, wait. . . ;)

In my defense I was more intent on following her live...on demand replay...internet etc. than posting in a timely fashion. I have my priorities Doc. ;) You have good taste...:)

Like photos without the snowboard suit.

Brooky: That Norwegian could actually lower my sex drive. From in my mind down about 3 feet.:)

Re: Sochi 2014: From Russia With Love

2022: Oslo out.

Stoking some of that anger was the IOC's list of demands for an Oslo bid, which included a cocktail reception with Norway's king, with the tab on either the royal family or the Norwegian Olympic Committee. Among the IOC's other demands:

  • Cars and drivers for IOC members, with special dedicated highway lanes
  • Street lights synchronized to prioritize IOC traffic
  • Separate airport entrance for IOC members
  • Hotel mini-bars must have only Coca-Cola products
  • Samsung phones for all IOC members
  • All meeting rooms must be kept at exactly 68 degrees.
  • All furniture must have "Olympic appearance."
  • "IOC members will be received with a smile on arrival at hotel"

Oslo joins a decorated list of municipalities that have declined to pursue Olympic bids, or dropped out of the running after residents voted against it. Invariably, each blamed the rising cost and invisible benefits of hosting the Olympics. Among those who withdrew are Krakow, Poland; Stockholm, Sweden; Munich, Germany; Davos/St. Moritz, Switzerland; and Lviv, Ukraine, which dropped out just before the IOC selected three finalists (the only three cities remaining).

With Oslo out, it's down to Beijing, China, and Almaty, Kazakhstan. The vote will be held on July 31, 2015, assuming one or both candidate cities don't drop out before then.

Re: Sochi 2014: From Russia With Love

Well we know China won't drop out because they're neck and neck with Putin for asserting world dominance.

Re: Sochi 2014: From Russia With Love

I really hope they go to Kazakhstan. Not only to watch Beijing's head explode (they've got to think they have this in the bag by now), but also because short of hosting the Winter Olympics in a jungle, I can't think of a better place to try and match Russia's fark ups during the planning and construction phase.

Re: Sochi 2014: From Russia With Love

Given the trend that has come with hosting the Olympics in the past 15 years, I am so glad that Chicago missed out on 2016... My guess is that Kazakhstan will get the 2022 games since 2018 will be in Korea... This could be a tipping point for the Olympics however... If no one capable of hosting wants to host, they will only fail in a substandard local once.... The IOC isn't the most honorable organization, but I don't think they will want to get into something like FIFA/Qatar...
