SNC Off Season Thread

Re: SNC Off Season Thread

Westscout - Then we should be able to say the same thing about UW Point in Basketball and Whitewater in football. Their coaches must have found a loop hole to continue to be national programs. I wish SNC could find the loop holes in those sport to comptete with them. I know my post is does not make sense and neither does yours!!!!!!!!!

They system is flawed, not SNC and Norwich and Middleburry
Westscout

It's funny that you think Middlebury exploits loopholes in FA packages in order to have a good hockey team. Especially when the team is made up of prep school kids whose families are used to paying 30K+ a year for high school. Oh, and don't forget that fifth year too. Kids go to Middlebury because it is a great school and they may be able to play for a prestigious team with a great coach. These are smart kids who know they aren't going to the NHL, and couldn't care less about playing in the FHL or SPHL.

My financial aid package at SNC was great and I was not an impact player on the hockey team. In fact, when my aid was decided Coghlin wasn't even the coach for another two years.

SNC knows that they have the best financial aid packages and they know that can lie in the weeds and get who they want to get.

They have to have these great academic awards in place to comepete with the UWS and UWRF and rest of the NCHA, that are very low in cost.

I know everyone on here thinks this is just absurd, but it is the truth. SNC has found the loop holes and figured a way around the system. I guess the more I look at it, more power to them.

They system is flawed, not SNC and Norwich and Middleburry, I love the idea of a FA cap, but that won't happen. The rest of the country needs to find away to use the loop holes to their advantage and join the other power houses of college hockey.

Westscout - Were you also in favor of the Railroad Unification Plan or are you related somehow to Orren Boyle?

St. Norbert College to be honored in Vatican Ceremony

ZENITH News Services...

The NCAA Champion St. Norbert College will be honored at a public audience with His Holiness Benedict XVI during the Green Knight's tour of Italy in August, 2011.

The Green Knights are taking advantage of the once every four year exemption for foreign tours to visit Italy and will play a 4 games against Italian A2 league teams. At the conclusion of the tour, the team will spend 2 days in Rome visiting various cultural sites in addition to the Papal Audience.

"We're overjoyed at the opportunity for the men's ice hockey team to visit a foreign country. We're indebited to the Kohl Foundation for their generous support to make this trip possible. I know the young men and the coaching staff will represent the college well," said St. Norbert President Tom Kunkel at the press conference announcing the trip.

NCAA Division III Coach of the Year Tim Coghlin echoed President Kunkel's comments. "This is a great opportunity for the young men of our team to bind together before we begin training camp on October 15. The opportunity to play good competition, even though they are exhibition games, will give the opportunity for our new student-athletes to learn what it means to be part of the St. Norbert community."

Asked if he was going to give the Pope any ice skating lessons, Coghlin laughed. "I don't know. He's not as athletic as the previous Pope and he's up there in years, but if he's game, so am I! But we'll have a Green Knight's jersey for him (#16)."

The players were just as enthusiastic about the trip. Senior Johan Ryd (Sweden) was especially excited. "All the Swedish players hope to have their families accompany us on the tour. It's only a 3 hour flight from Stockholm to Turin, and it will be nice to have our families see us in person rather that watch or listen to the games on the internet."

Re: SNC Off Season Thread

well with all the $$$ they have ya never know??? ;-)...ow that should have been in the other thread:eek::D:p

Re: SNC Off Season Thread

So will Coghlin actually have any anybody wear the C next year? Who might it be? Ryd? I suppose we will hear at the up coming banquet.

Re: SNC Off Season Thread

An interesting question on the captains for next year. Next year's senior class is very small. Soley came in last offseason and the only 2 4-year guys are Ryd and Joanette. Keefer and Stroh are a couple of their top performers who will be juniors. Maybe they could be in the mix as well. A guy I'll keep an eye on for a letter in the future is Hoogenboom.

Re: SNC Off Season Thread

I think we sometimes get things mixed up when you pick captains. Why do some people think just because you are a top performer you should wear the "C"? i would hope captains are picked by leadership qualities. I'm not saying that the ones you mentioned do not have those qualities because I have no idea. Some top performers are not leaders.

That's the question. I'm not really sure how they are in other areas we don't always see...hence why I put the names out there with no real predictions. Although I am predicting big things from Hoogenboom going forward.

Re: SNC Off Season Thread

I just think it will be interesting to see if anybody rises to the level of captain this year seeing no one seemed to fit the bill last year.

A happy 60th birthday to Ace Frehley today. Hope he is still in the New York Groove.

Re: SNC Off Season Thread

Just wondered if anyone had more info about the Knights trip to Italy? Is it for sure and what are the dates? Does the NCAA regulate additional games prior to a season or is this authorized trip/games? Will it be thus years team, inl graduating seniors or next years team incl fresman? Just curious, have not heard of this type of excursion before .

The St. Norbert hockey team is not going to Italy. Though, both Lawrence and Adrian have played games in Europe in the past few years.
