SLU - Summer of 2010

Re: SLU - Summer of 2010

Uh, you might want to re-read his post. Nowhere did he blame the refs for the loss. He clearly pointed out that the call on Stratford which led to the 3rd. Dartmouth goal was a miss call (which it was). He never said that was why we lost, but just that it was a missed call. Right after he said that about the missed call he also pointed out how we took bad penalties that hurt us as well. The ECAC refs do suck! We all know that and Got6 was mearly pointing that out. We Saints fans and ECAC fans all agree that the refs suck and we post this reguarly on these boards. Speaking of posting on these boards, don't you have a UNO thread somewhere that would be more appropriate for you to make such insightful posts on?

From one Saint fan to another, congrads, Brian. I knew you were good and am glad to see your receiving credit.Great article, thanks for sharing this with us,

Re: SLU - Summer of 2010

Thanks, guys, for your kind thoughts re the article. What was excluded, though, is that I've retained only about 2,500 photos/slides in my "portfolio" over the years and tossed about 45,000 or so slides. Of course that was prior to very reluctantly switching to digital.

Just after the photo was taken of me with my friend Warren a few days ago that was included with the article, I took about 80 digital photos of birds on my feeders in my backyard and every single photo taken (I mean attempted) was absolutely horrible. Much as I loathe certain/most aspects of digital, I hit "delete-delete" 80 times and nothing was spent on film/processing. The birds kicked my butt once again. They always have and will.

Now, back to the hockey. Any predictions how the road trip of the century will go? My vote is about .500 but that assumes no more injuries and some guys (e.g., Bogo) are able to come back soon.

Go Saints.

Agree with your thoughts completely. At no point did Got 6 blame the refs. for the loss. We got are butts kicked, plain and simple, but's that's to be expected in some games with a very young team that is really banged up at this point.

Re: SLU - Summer of 2010

Wow! Just got finished reading the posts and we definitely had a tough weekend. Just as I feared, consistency can be hard with a young team. I missed the action as I was down at my Alma Mater celebrating us taking the Cortaca Jug back from Ithaca. Well, it would be a nice start to the Thanksgiving week by going over to Potsdam and taking one from Clarkson. The boys have to keep their heads up. There is no doubt that Joe and Bob will continue to inspire these guys. Congrats to Brian on his article and a big congrats to Mark Raymond for not only taking the Saints football team to the League Title, but to the NCAA's as well. They will have their hands full with Mt Union, but good luck.

Go Saints Go

BOOOO Cortland. I'm an Ithaca grad. I guess we can loan it to you for the year since we've held it for the last three.
Also... Mark Raymond and all the assistant coaches came from Ithaca. I guess it takes a winner to make a winner.
Sounded like a rough weekend for the Saints. I'll get to lowdown at practice tomorrow.

Don't worry about it guys...this is an annual ritual. Say anything other than Dartmouth came in a parted the seas and you get the most tiresome, unoriginal comments from little Ben AKA UNOFAN and CWBrooks. You'd think Dartmouth guys would be better at reading comprehension and critical thought, but clearly the admissions office takes some candidates that rode the short bus their entire lives too down in Hangover!

That call on Stratford was made because he dropped the kid like a sack of potatoes and it looked bad. That penalty swung the momentum back as SLU was swarming after scoring to make it 2-1 and then Dartmouth gets the PP and makes it 3-1. Nevermind that one can go out to B2TV, pay to watch the tape, and watch about 30 times where the SLU player got hauled down going towards the net without a single call for that particular infraction all night.

I am not sure what to think to be honest. We went from badass to bad in one week. Those were both winnable games and we left them on the table. I'll chalk the losses up to inconsistency and the obvious fact that aside from the guys not in the lineup that we needed like Bogo, some of the guys in the lineup are banged up. Where we really missed Bogo both nights was on draws although it seemed like Drewiske did okay in that department. Only 1 game in three weeks is a blessing at the moment for sure.

Give credit to Dartmouth though...13-2 scoring on the North Country road trip is a rarity for the visitors. They came ready to play. Possibly, for the first time ever, the Ivy rules are helping teams as they have not incurred all the injuries we did in October.

Re: SLU - Summer of 2010

Easy SLUwriter, there is a lot of Red Dragon pride here. Plus this is our 5th jug in the past 9 years and 8th in the past 15. So it seems to have been pretty even. Mark and I are still friends even though he coached at Ithaca, LOL. Hey, well I can look past the fact that you are Ithaca Alum, because your coverage of the Saints has been great. Keep up the good work.

I thought UNOFAN was a Dartmouth fan and started to post that last night but wasn't certain that he was - so deleted the post before "Submit Reply" was clicked on. Doesn't much matter, but he was off base IMO with a portion of his comments.

As for Dartmouth mopping up in the NC, my best guess is that nobody has ever swept the NC teams by such a lopsided combined margin. Kudos to the Big Green. I bet Ben has been busting on his Dad, TimU, about that sweep. Had a chance to speak with Ben at length between periods while in LP - he is one highly intelligent and extremely nice young teenager. TimU and his wife have a lot to be proud of - the apple doesn't fall far from the tree. As for the sweep, I'm shocked that my brother hasn't called yet to roast me, but know that said call is forthcoming.

My condolences are extended to SLUwriter/Dan and his family for his/their recent loss.

Yes, UNOFAN is Ben (Buger)Flickinger. He is a Dartmouth and Chicago Cubs fan so he seems to have a thing for teams that haven't won **** when it matters for about 100 years.

Dartmouth seems to have our number lately, but I'll just have to wait until the end of the season when we go to Hangover to see if we can redeem ourselves. I know we sucked down there last year and I thought we struggled with some basics on Saturday night. We have got to start getting some offensive production from all the lines and the defense and we have to get the puck on net. Missed nets, blocked shots, bad penalties and a few missed assignments is not the recipe for success. It is truly ridiculous to tally up the injuries we have had to this point of the season....Bogo, Keller, Child, Hughes, K. Flanagan, Wick, Logue, and Baker if you include the bell-ringing in game one. Those are just the ones I know about. That is brutal. Let's just hope we are getting that part of the game out of the way early and it is smooth sailing from here on out.

The game Saturday is huge. What league game isn't, but we have got to find a way to win games that are a dogfight and Clarkson is always that kind of game. Hard to tell who is playing better since both teams have been pretty wildly inconsistent.

Brian congrats on the article. That is very cool and I admire your patience. Wildlife photography is incredibly difficult.

Yes, Tim and Tracy have raised nice young men in Ben and John. But rooting for Dartmouth....I think the beatings should continue until they can think straight!;)

Eh, my teams have won Super Bowls and a Stanley Cup in my lifetime, and frankly I've come to realize there's more to life than what a bunch of college kids and over paid prima donnas do. So when I go to games I actually watch the game and have fun. I don't just keep a microscope on the ref/ump/official all game like other certain posters on here have been doing since time began, or at least since the last iteration of the board began. I can't say I paid attention to the ECAC threads too much back in the golden days of the really, really old board (pre-1999), but somehow I'm betting the rants haven't changed.

And what, exactly, does my real name and whatever supposed insult that is in the paranthetical have to do with anything?

Clarkson and SLU will be having a mens Old Timers game at 2PM on Saturday before the mens game at Cheel. Two 25 minute periods will be played. Sounds like a lot of great old timers on both teams will be there.

Right, that is why with only being on the board two years more than me, rooting for a team that has played on average 5-10 games less per year with the Ivy rules and lack of playoffs, you still have 2.5 times the number of posts as me!!

Pardon me for caring whether or not my team wins and succeeds. The coaches are friends. The team and their families are extended family. The North Country is in my blood and I would live there if it were closer to a major airport. Success on the ice is not the only reason I follow this team and if it were I would be pretty frustrated.

If you want to stick with your insults and statement that I somewhere argued that we lost because of officiating, I don't have much more to say to you. Yes, I think officiating in this league sucks. So do a lot of other people who have or do make their livings working in pro hockey. Chief among those is your head coach whose whining is on par with Schafer at Cornell. But lets not let the hypocrisy get in the way of ad hominem and personal attacks.

Vic, do you have a list of players for the Old Timers game?

I was listening to the womens game last night and between periods they mentioned the Old Timers Game. Did not give a list of the players coming back but did mentions DeFrancisco from SLU.

Re: SLU - Summer of 2010

I've been away for a bit - thanks for the kind words about my son, guys. I've got him upstairs with toothpicks holding his eyes open, showing him pictures of the Dartmouth logo and giving him electrical shocks. ;)

At least he roots for SLU when they play Clarkson!!! And there are a lot worse schools than Dartmouth to root for. What would I have done if he'd turned into a BC fan???

Re: SLU - Summer of 2010

Gang

You're all invited into the Clarkson chat room Saturday night. Honestly, I wish most (all) of us could all gather at a watering hole, watch the game and trade (friendly) insults back and forth.

He'd be on the diving team??
