Cannot blame our forwards for this one. They had a few chances but they were facing as good a goalie as we have in Kasdorf. This one rests on the defense. Either they tired in the third or just miscommunicated and it was quickly 2-0. Tough one to lose but give credit to SLU as they move the puck and win the board battles and take all the right angles to get to the puck quickly. Regroup for tomorrow so this is not a lost weekend.

How many goals were scored against us as a result of losing a faceoff tonight? Both goals scored on the rush when defense did not cover their assignments. Sure we missed a lot of opportunities but we took 34 shots which is much above our average. These are two evenly matched goalies. Yes we lost a majority of faceoffs and thankfully not one of them cost us anything. The two goals scored were preventable only if the defense made the plays as they left Kazzie out to dry from close range. That's how I saw it tonight. A tie with a chance to win in OT turned into a loss in the last 5+ minutes.Have to strongly disagree here. Last time I checked it was the forwards who took all the face-offs. Two shut outs in a row! You have to get someone in front of the net to clean up those rebounds. Generally that is a forward's job. Never mind a lost weekend, this is quickly turning into a lost season (another year without an NCAA placing). We can just about kiss at At-Large bid goodbye (need to win 6 of 7 to have a shot). So now to save the season we need to win Lake Placid or else watch another selection program with an empty feeling. What was better than even money to make the NCAAs before the Yale game is now no better than 10%.

Of course, and that explains us scoring zero. But does not explain their scoring 2. We cannot ever win a game that we score zero and the faceoffs are a huge part (which I have also pointed out for about 12 years). But we faced a superb goaltender who was going to stop over 95% of shots and we had this game even with 6 minutes to go. We lost it simply by committing a couple mistakes. If we had scored 5 then that would not matter at all. Kazzie was great, their goalie was great. Our defense was OK until the last 6 minutes. I will also be unable to watch the BRF. Perhaps that will bring them luck. And how many lost opportunities in the offensive zone were lost due to those losing face-offs? It works both ways. The boys still don't play for 60 minutes. Good teams are always motivated, not for one period per game. Also this late in the season you can't have defensive communication problems, there is no excuse. Anyway, I too will be unable to watch tomorrow due to a prior obligation. I'll try to grab peeks on my phone but it won't be with the anticipation that I could have had. These last two games have really put a major damper on things.
