I hopped on this thread to try and gauge what the teams have been doing lately, you know comparing lines, stats...that sort of thing. I just went through countless pages of crap that is all about the fan base and attendance. How about some hockey talk about this series. It has been a long time since the gophers have had multiple players on some pretty good hot streaks right now. The likes of Haula, Rau, Schmidt, and Hansen have really surprised me with their point totals thus far.
There's some hockey talk in there, but it'll probably be hard to find. Here is my keys for Gopher victory:
Defense: Don't make it easy for UND to gain the zone. It's a big sheet of ice and the Gophers have to eliminate time and space for guys like Kristo and Grimaldi. The Gophers defense has had problems breaking the puck out in the face of an aggressive forecheck. This has gotten better the past few games, but we can't afford to turn the puck over in our end.
Offense: Get the big bodies in front of the net. Make North Dakota's defensemen skate. I think scoring depth is where Minnesota has it's biggest advantage. We need to stay out of the box so that we can use it. No turnovers entering the offensive zone. Need to minimize the odd-man rushes.
Goaltending: Patterson needs to have two solid games and cover up any mistakes made by our young defensemen.
Special teams: No retaliatory penalties. Stay out of the box and put the best power play in the nation to work.
