Shillelagh Tourney (Notre Dame, UND, Niagara, Colgate)

Re: Shillelagh Tourney (Notre Dame, UND, Niagara, Colgate)

Colgate is an inferior toothpaste. Niagara is an inferior falls. Notre Dame is an inferior everything.

Sioux easily win.

Well that about sums it up I guess. ;)

Are you making the roadtrip Dirty?

Re: Shillelagh Tourney (Notre Dame, UND, Niagara, Colgate)

No. I'm like not going anywhere this year. :(

What exactly is the Colgate mascot doing? Holding a flag and a torch?

This logo is much better.

Why does Niagara wear silver pants?
Thanks for stealing our "ND" logo Notre Dame, freaking catholic pr^cks.

Sioux in Two

Can't we get a little respect around here?

Re: Shillelagh Tourney (Notre Dame, UND, Niagara, Colgate)

I'm like cheap so that's why I'm not going anywhere.

So you own 20+ game worn jerseys but you can't afford to go on any roadtrips anymore? Um, like.

Re: Shillelagh Tourney (Notre Dame, UND, Niagara, Colgate)

I'm hoping that the majority of Notre Dame's D is healthy and ready to skate come Jan. 2nd. They've been down 4 D and either playing forwards on the blueline or trying the torpedo system (which only uses one true D).
Sam Calabrese will not be playing since he sustained a broken ankle vs. Miami a couple weeks ago, but hopefully Cole and Ringle have recovered from their concussions and Sean Lorenz's lower body injury is healed. Otherwise...
Assuming that Kyle Palmieri isn't cut from the USA World Juniors team tomorrow, ND will be without his services for the tourney.

I loved this tournament last year. We had the run of the rink during the early game, and met a lot of fun Notre Dame fans.

If this guy, Nick Mitrovich, is doing the PA again, he is so awesome!! A really nice guy who had a great sense of humor and had fun with us tUMD fans all weekend.

I'm excited for it this year. It will be the first time I see the Sioux live this season.

Do you recall last season if you could leave in between games? I would doubt it with a single ticket for each day, but just seeing if you remember. :)

You can't. Also, parking was $20.

Ouch.
According to our hotel website, the arena is supposedly within walking distance. Not sure if that means 1/2 mile or a few miles. We'll have the little one (all decked out in her Sioux gear), so not sure if we'll want to walk too far. Might have to Google map that shiznit.

Re: Shillelagh Tourney (Notre Dame, UND, Niagara, Colgate)

I believe I received something from the ND athletic site some weeks ago promoting the tournament and it said parking was free. I know there were a lot of complaints from folks last year because the parking was more expensive than a lot of the tickets. Also the second game is scheduled for just 60 minutes after the first each day I believe, hardly enough time to get away for a bit to eat anyway probably. Not sure what hotel you're staying in brianvf but I believe the closest ones are like 3/4 of a mile away if memory serves, but the area isn't designed with walking in mind, in my opinion, especially at night. I think it is why the arena thinks they can get away with doing things like charging 20 bucks for parking at some events, which is as much or more than any big league event I've ever parked at.

It sounds like they learned a lot from last year. I know it was thrown together because of the whole issue with the Florida tournament, and I think Notre Dame did a really great job of making the show go on. I think last year there was more time between games, too. We had all these extra tickets (long story) so between games a couple people went out, got our booze, and came back in.

I would think you should drive. I don't think there are any hotels that are all that close; it seemed to be in the middle of a business park. Plus, it's not like it's summer. We walked to a bar, which was like 2 freaking miles away from our hotel.

Re: Shillelagh Tourney (Notre Dame, UND, Niagara, Colgate)

The hotel that is nearest the Sears Center is a Marriott hotel, but as Irish Hockey Fan has pointed out, it is not really conducive to walking to the rink. It is about 3/4 of mile away, no sidewalks, and is in kind of out in the middle of absolutely no where. Very sterile environment. Nothing nearby, and this is probably one of the main reasons that the Sears Center is on the verge of going under. If you go a couple miles further out, you will find a very nice Hyatt Place for about half the cost of the Marriott, as well as a Hilton Garden Inn and a couple other hotels. These are along a main drag, so close to eating and drinking sites. If you stay at the Marriott by the Sears Center, you are either captive to the hotel for drinks and food or you have to drive several miles.

Oh yeah, I forgot about that one. Is that where you're staying, Brian? I bet the team will stay there.
