Shannon Miller out at UMD?

Re: Shannon Miller out at UMD?

the other thing I find interesting about her PR is that she includes players that were Olympians BEFORE attending UMD in the totals as if she created them
and also wins that were later vacated by the NCAA

As a Penn State alum, let me just state that wins vacated aren't necessarily vacated forever.... I don't think the NCAA has much credibility these days with its enforcement record.

You are absolutely correct. Once the guy is in jail all the NCAA wants to do is whitewash it like nothing happened. I'm sure those kids appreciate that all of those folks that looked the other way can go back to bragging about Joe Pa and the record.

Maybe with Shannon gone the NCAA will do the same at UMD.

Please tell me you're not seriously trying to compare Miller to a case in which there was sexual abuse of children

Actually, the NCAA reinstated the wins as a part of the settlement of a lawsuit that it was in the process of losing. It was losing because it made up the rule under which they were vacated and applied it retroactively.

Wonder if she'll go the international route and coach some European country's team?

She did serve as a mentor to Team Russia prior to the Sochi Games. Former player, Sarah Murray, is currently coaching South Korea in preparation to the 2018 Games. Both are probably options for Coach Miller to play some type of role.

(Sorry for the temporary highjack here, but I am tired of my alma mater's name being dragged through the mud)...Careful here. You may want to read just a little bit past the Keith Obermann rants and what the NCAA wants you to believe and look at some facts. Sandusky was convicted on 45 of 48 charges. Guess which charges were acquitted - the ones on Penn State's campus. Yes, Sandusky used the Penn State locker rooms (a perk offered by the administration over the objections of Joe Paterno for his retirement), but he hadn't been an employee for several years and was not under the supervision of any Penn State department. Where's the outrage at the not-for-profit that actually employed Jerry Sandusky and kept feeding him young boys for years and years? I know, not as compelling a story as blaming Penn State. OK, sorry again for the highjack, but I'm tired of the misinformation and ignorance out there...

Re: Shannon Miller out at UMD?

An arrogant, intimidating, angry man is simply "determined" and "a boss."
The authors take, or conclusion. This is contrary to what I've witnessed throughout 40 or so years in business. The idea that arrogant, angry, intimidating men are admired, even tolerated in a typical work environment is not what I've seen. Being adversarial with colleagues / coworkers will bite you...man or woman. Within any paid, professional occupation tact is required. Unless they're the one signing the paychecks, men with similar disposition often suffer the same fate. Usually in a much shorter time frame.

I'm with you on this one.

The two most successful women's coaches in the WCHA during the past five years are anything but "arrogant, angry and intimidating".

I didn't know that. I thought that PSU was in trouble because they knew he was a pedophile, the coach, the AD and the Dean all knew and did nothing & told nobody. I never thought it was because the assaults took place on campus.

same here, it is understandable that at one time this was the major form of management, after all our country defeated the Nazi's & Japs so it's natural the returning veterans adopted this style and put up with it as an employee

Miller is a throwback, sure her current players support her, and why not, they get free college and get to play hockey at a level few others get to
BTW, it costs about $75,000 or so for each player, add in tuition, room & board and they are basically getting $100K
I put up with bigger pains in the butt for far less when I was 20
nowadays I expect to be paid well to put up with a SOB (or just plain B) like that (and I won't be there long)
that type of manager is rare these days, and typically nobody likes them

South Korea sounds good
North would be even better

Re: Shannon Miller out at UMD?

Regardless of the line of work, if Miller doesn't find employment in the US after this season when her tenure with UMD is up, she's going to think that her dustup with UMD was a walk in the park after FACTA gets its fangs and claws into her. And as a result she will regret that fateful day that she decided to become a US citizen, (and then proceeded to do so), regardless of whether it's sole citizenship or dual citizenship.

Ah, yes...deflect attention away from the facts with insults.

Well, I now know that you are not putting groceries on the table with your mind reading skills...haha. I wasn't thinking of Canada. I was thinking of Russia and the Battle of Stalingrad...but, maybe that's not in your history books. But since you mentioned it, I would think that the Brits, and yes, the Canadians, and the Aussies, and the French, in addition to the Russians, among others would more than raise an eyebrow at your comment.

Re: Shannon Miller out at UMD?

Honestly, even though the 2nd Infantry Division landed on June 6th, 1944, the Canadians were more impressive under Sir Arthur Currie in the First World War.

Re: Shannon Miller out at UMD?

Let's face it, Americans generally speaking no nothing about anything outside the city/county in which they live. And when they try to talk about it, well, it just proves it. (And as Forrest Gump once said, "that's all I got ta say 'bout that!")
