Did you know Derby Kitti is in medical school? or that Eli V is in grad school continuing his biomedical engineering studies?

JSR probably thinks that they suck and are irrelevant, because they were rarely on the scoresheet. You know, examples of Russell's complete failure to recruit anyone who is any good at playing hockey.

Re: Severe Ronaldstorm Warning: the Michigan Tech 2010-11 Season Thread, Part the Sec

I want wins, I want rings, I want trophies. If you can't get that, there's not point in even playing. A winning team has to be what we strive for, not a losing team with good grades!

Re: Severe Ronaldstorm Warning: the Michigan Tech 2010-11 Season Thread, Part the Sec

Even if the EZAC stuff were half as true as some people make it out to be, that would make it HARDER for Yale to get good talent, not easier.
easier to excel with mediocre talent

Good luck this weekend. I hope you see two good games and lose two OT thrillers. :)

Re: Severe Ronaldstorm Warning: the Michigan Tech 2010-11 Season Thread, Part the Sec

It's Friday. How do I know it's Friday? Every Friday I wake up with this unexplained sense of hockey optimism. It may be crushed in 48 hours, and I may be a cynical as ever by Monday, but by the next Friday, hope... painful hope...

there is a little bit of a broom dancing in my head too.

I want to win too. and I want our team to be good and smart and nice guys too. perfect world anyone?

Color me not-optimistic. I think I might go catch a movie tonight and forget about hockey.

Re: Severe Ronaldstorm Warning: the Michigan Tech 2010-11 Season Thread, Part the Sec

I'm going to the Air Force - Army game - should be fun - but will check in on Tech

Re: Severe Ronaldstorm Warning: the Michigan Tech 2010-11 Season Thread, Part the Sec

Since nothing I want for Tech hockey ever seems to happen (in order of increasing possibility - A national championship in my lifetime, a WCHA regular season championship, a WCHA playoff champtionship, an NCAA bid, to finish in the top half of the WCHA, to have a winning record, to sweep a team in any given weekend) I'm declaring this weekend "THE OFFICIAL NON-CONFERENCE IT DOESN'T MATTER REVERSE PSYCHOLOGY WEEKEND". I predict that Tech will lose both games and neither one will be close. We may even not come out for the third period of the Saturday game after being beat into the ice for the 5 previous periods by a clearly superior EZAC foe. By extending the streak we will get just that much closer to the worst season of Tech hockey ever. And thus (here's the good part) it will be that much sweeter when Tech rises to the top because we can say we still cheered for the team when it all hit rock bottom (OMG - I hope we're there now).
There, that should all but assure us two wins this weekend.

I know I said the same thing last Friday, but I still believe we are at rock bottom here, and the future is bright - with or without a coaching change. A few wins are needed this year, though, before we run out of time to establish the fact that the worst is over.

Game Day!

You want gimmicks, how about the fact that there are five people writing in the USCHO columns this week (2 WCHA, 3 ECAC), and they all picked you to get swept in your home barn. Nobody expects you to win or come close to it, despite the fact that you are playing a team you *should* beat at least once and likely take a win and a tie against. You are coming home after being away for over a month. There are 15 losses hanging on the board.

If the coaching staff and players are not fired up to go out there and take it tonight, then there is a problem. Injuries or not, the freshmen now have more than a half a season of experience at this level, and thus should be able to grind at least one out this weekend against a team from the east.

If the streak does not end this weekend, the 2010-2011 team will have set the record for futility of this program. And that is embarassing.

I expect that we will see a different team this weekend. Perhaps a more motivated team. Captain or not this weekend, it is time to play hockey. Your reputation is on the line every time you take the ice. Play with pride, come out, and make them know they were in a hockey game. Make it so that they feel it tomorrow morning, make it so that they have to take painkillers to sleep tonight. Hit somebody. Win some battles in the corner. Keep your head in the game and don't allow defensive breakdowns.

Make the game simple. It is never easy, but it can be simple.

Go Huskies!

The 2 guys making picks for the Red Star and Sickle, here in Minneapolis, picked a Tech sweep and a split. Morons.

If this was easy or simple, the Huskies wouldn't have waited until this weekend to infuse themselves with a new sense of enthusiasm. Winning is fun. Winning on the road is even more fun. This is a team that has to relearn how to win. Maybe Mroz can fly Obama in to conduct the pep rally before the game. We'd be so excited to hear our Dear Leader exclaim, "The Huskies have opened their eyes!!"
