Severe Ronaldstorm Warning: the Michigan Tech 2010-11 Season Thread, Part the Second

Schooley's back this weekend. Kattelus is gone. Baker is a wait and see until January. possible other news about to break.

Assuming it's not, we need some good news to break.

About Kattelus, he must've really messed up or Jamie feels some job security to cut him. Especially after Jamie's quote today in the Mining Gazette about needing senior leadership on the ice and now we're down to one senior for seven weeks.

Kattelus has ****ed up in the past, I doubt he had a very long leash to start with. Add in some seriously stupid on-ice stuff, it probably didn't take much for the coaching staff to just say enough is enough.

it's one fine Senior that we are down to. Cousens is great!

Yeah, Eric has been in serious trouble before. Last year, Gwilliam and Russell agreed he could return after a two-month suspension, but I imagine he got read the riot act, and any further violation of team rules would result in his immediate and permanent removal.

It's official:

Kattelus Dismissed from Hockey Team

HOUGHTON, Mich. - Michigan Tech senior forward Eric Kattelus has been dismissed from the hockey team for a violation of team rules. He had one goal and seven assists in nine games this season and 6-26--32 in 87 career games.

“It is unfortunate that we had to dismiss Eric from the team,” said athletic director Suzanne Sanregret. “We have high standards for our student-athletes, and we expect them to live up to the high standards that have been set.”

The Gophers jumped on us, early. Just too deep of a hole.

Jamie's postgame thoughts:
First 10 mins of game, good majority of lineup was looking around who would lead us
Need everyone to step up and do this together, played better once we got our legs under us
We're a young team, seem to keep getting younger every week with what's transpired
Jamie met with Furne this week, the game is slowing down since the jump from USHL, he's producing
Sova played very well, Cousens also very solid, Seigo very good game
Can't fault Genoe at all, well earned goals by Gophers
We had a few passengers tonight, didn't pull their weight
MN had good team speed, that put us back on our heels
We started year with 18 forwards, now only have 1 healthy scratch, not a lot of choices for lineup changes
Liked Furne-Johsntone-Gordic, also Royer-McLeod were good, Rix was good
We will be tweaking our lineup for tomorrow

JFC, how many times is Russell going to throw the "we're a young team" soundbite out there? I thought this freshman class was the most experienced and mature that he's ever recruited. I'm tired of hearing about how young we are.

Where is the remainder of the senior leadership to step up and say enough is enough with getting outchanced and giving up 4+ goals a game, this time in our own barn no less?

Mitch almost died. It was epic.

Seigo's hit was epic, first time I've ever seen glass break at the JMSIA

7 outta the 9 points awarded for tonight's game were from freshman...."we're a young team" doesn't cut it anymore, this team....especially the young ones, have shown they have the skill....they just need the opportunity

Re: Severe Ronaldstorm Warning: the Michigan Tech 2010-11 Season Thread, Part the Sec

I've thought over the past year that scoring goals was our main problem. But that wasn't it tonight. We can't give up what we did and expect to win anything. minnesota is not that good. Glad eric is gone.

Re: Severe Ronaldstorm Warning: the Michigan Tech 2010-11 Season Thread, Part the Sec

I'd never seen the glass break in JMSIA either. the resulting intermission was fun.

Re: Severe Ronaldstorm Warning: the Michigan Tech 2010-11 Season Thread, Part the Sec

As a member of a rival base, your freshman class this year scares the everloving daylights out of me.

Last night's game was an entertaining show. For the record, you can have pizza delivered to tJMSIA, and walk in with it, no problem.

Re: Severe Ronaldstorm Warning: the Michigan Tech 2010-11 Season Thread, Part the Sec

Honestly, MN showed what they CAN do in the first 10 minutes of the first. MN showed what they USUALLY do the last 5 minutes of the first. That other five minutes? A crapshow of what happens between a hard-luck team and a team who doesn't show a lot of heart. And holy *ing crap you guys got some big boys on your team.

Tonight should be interesting, word is that Kangas Khan gets the start.

Here's to no more broken glass, more fun in the Misfits section (what what what?), and seeing Ronald later on after the game. ;)

Re: Severe Ronaldstorm Warning: the Michigan Tech 2010-11 Season Thread, Part the Sec

they double as the football team

Kangas is starting?? oh yeah, baby!! this could be fun!

That's what I hear. Apparently one of our group was near the bench towards the end of the game, and tDon was NOT happy about that last Tech goal, kind of like the icing on the "I'm Mad" cake.

All but one of them will regress next year; it's a Tech tradition as sure to happen as getting blasmed at Winter Carnival.

Like I said, certain players need to get their scheiße together and LEAD this team. If Cousens "was very solid" and Seigo "had a good game", then why did we allow six goals? I heard almost nothing out of Royer, but Russell liked his play with MacLeod?

I wonder who Russell thinks was "a passenger" and what the lineup changes will be. Nielsen didn't have a good night, particularly on the PK. I think he earned at least a "wake-up" demotion tonight.

I also feel that Genoe will start again, based on Russell's comments before and after the game.

Kangas has been like Jekyll and Hyde against us. He'll give up some laughers, or he'll completely shut us out. I'm willing to bet that it's the latter this evening.
