Re: Setting Sail - Oswego State Lakers 2010-2011 Season Thread

good to see the Fox, Laganiere, Boots line back together. To me Titanic, although he didn't have any points, had his best game as a Laker. He was skating hard and just seemed to be around the puck everytime he was on the ice. Didn't make any stupid mistakes.

Titanic was definitely on his game tonight. He has played well every time he has been put in the lineup. His passing ability and work ethic to me has gotten better on with time. I think he will be a surprise next year and will live up to his junior hype. He was on the verge of putting one on the board tonight and was buzzing around the net all night like you said. I think Titanic and Domenico will be big surprises next year to the Laker faithful.

Re: Setting Sail - Oswego State Lakers 2010-2011 Season Thread

Laker28, I agree in the fact that Rodrigues and Boots are getting the timely goals and creating good chances for others. But, I STILL think this team lacks a proven leader on the ice like say a Ryan Woodward type or an Andy Rozak. Those guys were great leaders on the ice and could pull the team together when in a big hole. Besides Huinink's display of anger towards the bench at the Cortland game, (which spurred the outburst in the last 2:50 to tie game) I haven't seen anybody really take a hold of the teams reigns. Those two you speak of are carrying the team when it comes to the offensive side of the game.

I will agree again that Beckwith is still looking rusty out there. I think lack of focus is a better way of describing his situation. The D in front of him has not been helping though be being sloppy leaving pucks in front of the net off of bad passes. I don't know how many times this year guys have turned the puck over in the defensive zone off of a errant pass. We have set up teams for goals on sloppy play than what they have created themselves! Again it is a focus thing and thinking about where the puck should go. The decision making processes for some of these guys is just not there for the entire game and that needs to change fast come playoff time.

I told a buddy of mine that if they came out flat again that we would come back trying to get that goal right back. Forcing unecessary shots and making the cutesy passes. Well it showed itself again tonight in those first 7 or so minutes until Boots' goal. I was left shaking my head at their flat play and the offense was flowing just like the Mo'ville game. The powerplay was impressive tonight and was the sharpest it has been in sometime, which is a great time to finally that part of their game up. The passing again left a lot to be desired and hopefully will be a little better tomorrow against a #6 team.

I don't think anybody has mentioned it yet, but Owen Kelly is the most underrated player on this team. He has been the most consistent player all year. He has not had one bad game (as pretty much everybody did last Saturday) and does all of the little things that are important to the team. He is not a flashy playmaker or goal scorer but the full definition of a grinder. He is a hard nosed kid and comes with his hard hat in hand to work every night. His work on the penalty kill and on defense is a big asset to this team and he will be really missed next year.

Re: Setting Sail - Oswego State Lakers 2010-2011 Season Thread

I don't mention Kelly too much because if you frequent the games you know what to expect from him. He never takes a shift off and he does absolutely nothing to hurt the team in any way, a few more guys like him and games like the Morrisville game don't happen.

And I hear you on Woodward, Rozak and I will throw another name out there John Hirliman. They were leaders on and off the ice which they are lacking right now.

I personally love Domenico's game, he is an agitator and is not afraid to throw the body which guys a lot bigger than him are often unwilling to do. He doesn't have a ton of speed but he puts it all out there. I think if Brown, Titanic, Domenico and Badham can get in the lineup more next year they will be very solid players.

The turnovers in their own end are killers, just lazy board play and passing up the middle are the main causes and those are easy problems to fix if you are willing.

first off the new webcast doesnt seem as good to me, and not sure if its me but I have the 2 black walls on each side of the screen, and it doesnt seem as clear, that said, faceoffs, we need help nuff said.after a slow start the PP goal got us going, good hustle all around Titanic and Domenico were great love to see that hitting from the frshmen, but they have to be carefull not to take themselves out of the play when doing it, that will come with experience.....PP looked good but would like to see more traffic IFO the next....D looked sloppy at times, but when you play a team that has a few good guys then the rest, timing gets thrown off ...beck looked ok not to into it.. it seemed, he better step it up tonight, if ya cant get up for this game go home, doesnt matter if there is "little on the line", pride and home ice dominance is enough...the guys who sat lastnight, bremner, lembrock, etc should be ready for a big game, ......any injuries to speak of??? ps as another poster mentioned, forwards cannot get to cute with the puck, get it to the net and crash it.......GO LAKERS:D

Re: Setting Sail - Oswego State Lakers 2010-2011 Season Thread

I was just putting that out there about Kelly for those who can't get to all the games. He is another version of Levy a guy who works tirelessly for his team and never gives up. I agree if we had two or three more Kelly's this team would be really hard to beat on a bad night (like the Mo'ville game).

I think that after last night's game Titanic and Domenico deserved a spot in the lineup tonight. But, with it being senior night it will be hard to find a place for both of them in the lineup with Bremner definitely deserving to be back in the lineup (after getting a wake up call scratch). Muise is the only one to me that seemed banged up at all and even that looked like nothing at all.

Van Boxmeer, Titanic, Hall, and Bremner will be in the lineup tonight (just my guess) and I don't know where you put Leimbrock and Domenico. The latter will be a very tough call for coach to make. Domenico didn't offer much on the offensive end last night, but he was one of the few who threw his body around last night and effectively too. The crowd fed off of his hits and the team looked to as well. He stuck up for his teammates as well. In the 2nd, Boots was taken down after the whistle and Domenico went after the B'port player. I love that kind of fire. That's why for me anyway it would be hard to sit Corey tonight.

That would be me:) They started crashing the net better in the 3rd period last night and look what happened...you score!!!! Laganiere's last goal was the product of sitting in front of the net and picking up the loose puck. The boys need to get the puck on net like you said and then crash it hard and pick up the loose rebounds. The '07 team was GREAT at capitalizing off of this "strategy". I think it worked out pretty well for them :)

Re: Setting Sail - Oswego State Lakers 2010-2011 Season Thread

I agree on Domenico, he deserves to play tonight but he probably won't. Leimbrock has been a bit off a disappointment this year, he throws the body a lot and is defensively responsible but he has a lot of offensive upside that he hasn't shown this year. He was a catalyst of the comeback against Morrisville in the playoffs last year and I would like to see more of that type of thing from him.

As for crashing the net, that has been a huge point of frustration for me this year. So many juicy rebounds just sit out there and nobody on Oswego goes after them. In the game last night a couple of their goals were on that kind of thing, so I say it works keep doing it.

Another thing from last nights game, nobody has really commented too much on the third Oswego goal. What a great play by Whitelaw to get Rodrigues the puck and what a finish by Paul. It was good to see that line back together again, they create a ton of chances and with Moodie and Rodrigues finishing a lot of them off, they are an offensive catalyst for sure.

A grudge match of a fantastic caliber. We'll know right away if Oz picks up where they left off last night - send the seniors out in style, and ride a wave into the playoffs.

Carrying with the Basketball updates from yesterday: Lakers Men's BB tips off versus Genny @ 4 today. Could be wrong, but they're wrapping things up for playoffs next week too. Making a sports day of it in Oswego:D.

Mike I know you were looking for this so here is the link to just some of the pictures from last night. I had to open a new account in my name as the WNYO account is out of storage room lol. I guess I take too many pictures. As long as the power doesn't go out tonight I should have a majority of the one's from tonight up before morning for all to see.

Good shots. That second one really shows how physical Domenico was. Hope to see him on the ice tonight. He's going to be an important part of this team in the next few years.

Now if you'll excuse me, I must gear up to make the freezing walk to the CC. Go Lakers!! :)

Re: Setting Sail - Oswego State Lakers 2010-2011 Season Thread

What a pleasure tonight's game was! This is the team we have been waiting for. Mr Beckwith is back and they played sixty minutes of inspired hockey. Boots and Lags - terrific! Anything can happen but maybe Plattsburg next Saturday?

Even I'm not sure what to make of this one, but hope ya'll like it. On a public computer, so I can't comment for too long. Excellent game all around.

Re: Setting Sail - Oswego State Lakers 2010-2011 Season Thread

Oswego had a lot of decent chances in the first two periods and couldn't capitalize. Geneseo was pretty much out of gas after two and they took a big time shellacking in the third. Everyone from Beckwith on out played like they wanted to win and it showed on the scoreboard. A couple of the goals were just works of art, most of them painted by Ian Boots.

I think every Oswego fan knew this type of performance was in them and it was good to finally see it.

excellent job! Funny story, I'm walking out of Poucher Hall after the game and suspicously hear one of my goals calls, only to see this video playing on that computer that you must have posted this on. Had to stand there and watch the rest... thanks for using my calls.
