Re: Setting Sail - Oswego State Lakers 2010-2011 Season Thread

As a add in before I go to bed before the big weekend. I thought I would throw a shameless plug to my photography work and my friends at WNYO. http://www.wnyosports.com/ I would also like to say if you are on the fence about coming to both games this weekend please take the time to do so! This team deserves all the support in the world. It would be nice to send the seniors out on a high note with two consecutive sold out crowds which I don't think has been legitmately done before (meaning actual fannies in seasts and standing room). I have been doing my best to get the coverage in the Syracuse newspaper for this weekend but didn't get the support. So, I will keep trying and the man I talked to said coverage would take place if we make the NCAA's go figure! That's when the team becomes important enough to them. Go Lakers!!!

Pretty cool short video mixing last year's Oswego State hockey team and this years.

This is part of Stephen Bond's "Boys of Oswego" documentary about last year's team (only has last year's stuff). I've seen the entire thing and it is very very well done.

Shameless plus for my Oswegonian column as well: http://www.oswegonian.com/sports/lakers-still-no-1-despite-recent-streak-of-hardships-1.2003984

I can tell him that there is interest and maybe he or I can post it somewhere on the web. Right now I just have the DVD copy. It's about 30 mins long.

Nice. I know I'd definitely have interest in seeing it and I'm sure plenty of people on this board would be interested.

I am always interested in seeing a good hockey documentary.

Hope there are great crowds for tonight and tomorrow! Today, sunny and in the 50s! Tomorrow, very windy, chance of lake effect and wind chill could be near zero! Got to love Oswego!!!!!!

Re: Setting Sail - Oswego State Lakers 2010-2011 Season Thread

Going off from how good the weather is today here in Oswego county there is no reason why the C.C.I.A. should not be sold out tonight. Roads will be clear and nothing but clear skies. Tomorrow should be interesting as the white stuff starts flying again!:D

Re: Setting Sail - Oswego State Lakers 2010-2011 Season Thread

The problem is when the weather gets this nice after the long winter the kids like to be outside. I remember the first day over 50 every year was the day the most people were outside playing Kan Jam, football, you name it

I'd be pleasantly surprised to see a sell out tonight

You're forgetting that, you know, it gets dark at night.

You forget how fast the sun goes down! So, there should be nothing for them to do outside at the time of the game. But, judging from the line to get in before the game just 20 minutes ago it was not very awe inspiring. So, I guess you will be right on the non-sell out which is a shame. Maybe we can be surprised by a great walk up crowd from the students and townies combined. Tomorrow's crowd should be packed.

One thing that was on my mind before I head down the hall to the arena was the attitude problem. I stated it before and Gosek mentioned it in and after practice yesterday. If they walk in with the same attitude as last week then you can forget about winning the game. The intensity from the end of the Cortland game should be present at the beginning of every game. I don't get why they have been coming out with the brakes on. Brockport is on a little streak right now and is gaining confidence and if you give them any kind of edge (ie playing soft and with little intensity, bad passes) than we will be in big trouble. If the guys are dwelling on last weekends loss that will be another huge problem but from seeing them in practice I don't imagine that weighing too much on their minds anymore.

The other problem I have noticed is the passing. It has been pretty atrocious in the last couple games. It seemed like we could not connect on any of the tape to tape passes against Mo'ville or get a puck clean out of the neutral zone in that awfully played 2nd period. We were just outplayed in every facet of the game and that can't happen again.

Lastly, the boys have been doing too many cutesy backdoor type plays and fancy passes (and bone head moves of leaving the puck out front in between the circles to be intercepted by the opposing team just looking to be put in the net). Just stick to the basics and the game will come to you guys. I think that when they get down by a goal or two they try to get it all back in a couple of plays. Slow down and play smart and every thing should play out to our advantage as we have all the talent to win every game. Go Lakers!

Very nice game tonight. After a slow start team showed a lot of intensity. Good crowd enthusiasm and it is looking more and more like this is Boots team now. He is taking over in a good way, always hustling, played on PK and PP and controled play whenever he was on the ice. Rest of the team seemed to feed off that. It was the one thing I thought this team lacked this year was an on ice leader and now I think they have one just in time for the post season.

In other news, Eric Selleck currently on a 3 game point scoring streak. (1 goal, 2 assists) Too bad he's been a healthy scratch in recent games.

8:47 p.m.: LW Eric Selleck is on a scoring streak. An assist two games back, a goal in his previous game and, after being the odd-man out in the rotation of scratches, another assist tonight as RW Jeff LoVecchio redirects his shot.

Again, simply a result of hard, determined work. Selleck and PJ Fenton battled to pry the puck off the right-wing boards. Selleck then passed across to D Adam Comrie at the left point.

His big slap shot was stopped but, with RW Jeff LoVecchio creating a little at-the-crease havoc, Selleck hammered at the rebound and LoVecchio tipped it in at 4:14 of the second period for his sixth goal.

Amerks lead 3-0.

As Selleck raised his arms to celebrate, RW Ashton Rome gave him a cross-check that sent him sprawling. Not sure how referee Marcus Vinnerborg ignored such a blatant stick foul, unless he prefers the old school

good to see the Fox, Laganiere, Boots line back together. To me Titanic, although he didn't have any points, had his best game as a Laker. He was skating hard and just seemed to be around the puck everytime he was on the ice. Didn't make any stupid mistakes.

Re: Setting Sail - Oswego State Lakers 2010-2011 Season Thread

The puck found Titanic and Mather a lot tonight and they were all over it but they just can't seem to put it away. I really don't know what else to take out of the game, they had stretches of intensity and stretches of I don't know what.

Boots and Rodrigues are definitely starting to take the team over, scoring timely goals and creating chances when the team is looking flat.

Beckwith looked a little disinterested again at times but he didn't give them any easy ones which is a plus.

Oswego was insanely flat for the first five or so minutes but after Boots scored on the power play they were ok, still the starts are going to need to be better in the playoffs.
