Re: Setting Sail - Oswego State Lakers 2010-2011 Season Thread

Hare is far too talented to be a 3rd string dIII goalie. For those who haven't seen him play, he's certainly a D1 talent - athletic, and moves very well in the net. Sounds like consistency has been an issue, but he's certainly capable of pushing Beckwith and that has to be a good thing for the lakers.

pushing sounds like good thing for all involved, I said it at the beginning of the season that Oz needs 3 goalies, its a long season, and sh*t happens/happened, hope all 3 can get along, you know how goalies are:D:eek:

Re: Setting Sail - Oswego State Lakers 2010-2011 Season Thread

Hare is very talented.... But he also does not always bring his A game. He does not practice well, needs to do better in his conditioning and may need an attitude adjustment.

It doesn't matter how talented you are, if you don't work hard in practice, if you come in with the attitude that you don't need to work hard in the off season to be in better condition coming in or your play is inconsistent it can be guarenteed that Gosek will never let you see the ice. If you just want to play hockey without all the hard work, try club or a beer league.

Re: Setting Sail - Oswego State Lakers 2010-2011 Season Thread

If he doesn't practice hard, then he wont be pushing Beckwith or Jones all that much. Those guys work their tails off in practice and Becwith is a very good goalie on top of that. Maybe a change of scenery will be good for Hare, as I think anyone that is close to the Oswego program can tell you, Eddie will not tolerate guys not working hard.

Re: Setting Sail - Oswego State Lakers 2010-2011 Season Thread

It'll keep Beckwith on his toes that's for sure. After Potter and KGT coming in as transfers and both taking the starting job from Paul it'll be interesting to see how he handles it a third time.

I don't know the kid personally so I can't comment on his work ethic or attitude, but I have seen him play and I know that he has all the physical tools to be an excellent goaltender. Certainly well worth a roll of the dice if for no other reason than the fact that he'll be a back up with loads of potential.

If Eddie is going to let him come in then he sees something. It could be Eddie wants the kid to see what it takes to play on the team and perhaps he'll stay. I would be willing to bet there will be another goalie coming in the Fall of 2011.

Lets try to see the positives in this. If this guy is better than decent than it will be to the lakers advantage. I didn't see Jones against Hobart but did against Utica. He did what he was suppose to do and not loose the game but his play was not stellar. Beckwith has some really tough luck with his health and none of it is his fault. You don't go out and get the S1N1 flu on purpose which he caught last year and he was the starting goalie. So having a more than capable backup is hugh. When the lakers went to their first NCAA Championship game Pat Kelly was Paul Muellers back up and he could have very well started for most D-3 teams. Also getting this kid in now might solve any issues for goal for next year too.

What issues were there next year?

Beckwith is only a junior and Jones is a soph.

For any team during the off season there seems to be issues with the goal situation. Except if you have a Jones of St. Norbert a couple of years ago. This would set the Lakers for goalies and Ed would not have to decide to bring in someone else. One less headache to have.

we also had Stu Gould as well who was a D1 trans from U of Chicago Ill. ( I belive the program folded there ) who I thought was as good as the other 2 goalies but was a little nutty as most goalie are, bottom line if this kid coming in knows whats excepted of him and he is as good as some has posted, ITS ALL GOOD......

Re: Setting Sail - Oswego State Lakers 2010-2011 Season Thread

I don't ever remember writting Stu Gould on any score sheet that I did for the 2 years that I was with the team. Years 87-88.

Yes, Niagara has something else planned ... we signed Cody Campbell for next semester. Campbell was a decommitt from UNH after they signed Casey DeSmith. Hare had 1.5 seasons with every opportunity to take the #1 job and did not. I think he saw the handwriting on the wall. I expect we will have Campbell, Noonan and another goalie (to serve as a backup) whose name has not been released as yet.

(Sorry ... that was meant to be a response to Laker28's post yesterday)

I saw the Campbell commit after I posted my question. I wasn't sure he would be willing to start a semester early but it looks like he is.

I was just thinking it wouldn't be right for a guy to leave a team hanging like that with only one goalie, but if they have a plan then it's a non-issue.

I played for the 85,86,87 season and stu was there for the 86 and 87 I believe didnt see much time but was a very good goalie, I belive he has a goalie camp and also does the fasmasks that several pros wear

Re: Setting Sail - Oswego State Lakers 2010-2011 Season Thread

It looks like Andrew Hare is a Laker (facebook out of all things is the source here). This will settle any problems in net at least with not having a capable third string goalie. I feel a lot more comfortable going into the Pathfinder with Hare and Jones. I think it will be too early for Paul to come back. The best we can hope for is that Paul will be back by the Skidmore and Curry weekend. I have no doubt he will be back for the second half of SUNYAC play. By the way this is a credible source, I used to be known as lakeroswegonian09 but with the change of emails after graduating I changed my profile as it no longer fit. I hope to keep everyone up to speed on here (ie Lou, Derek, Rob, ie) as I'm still kind of on the inside with the team.

I think I said that Andrew Hair (sic) was going to the Lakers ;)

That's fine, but I wanted to see confirmation that he was here. I found that and we shall see if he finds his way on the ice. I think Paulie will ultimately get the nod once he is healthy.

Re: Setting Sail - Oswego State Lakers 2010-2011 Season Thread

Our school really needs a mascot, like a pirate or something, or even a fisherman, idk what you could or would have that represents a "laker" but all the other schools in the SUNYAC have something, and I look at their logo's and ours and all we have is a flag with an L
