It's a board joke, brah. Don't mind it.

heh, i know i know. and granted its completely true in this scenario. :P elmira or no elmira i still think we have an absurdly potent offense right now. oooo man. this is gonna be a hell of a season

Re: Setting Sail - Oswego State Lakers 2010-2011 Season Thread

I got beaten to the no class line.

I wonder why a Canadian University team didn't get invited over like RMC or Queens. They usually are closer to the level of competition that they would face during the year. Elmira is going to be a dogfight on both nights.

Re: Setting Sail - Oswego State Lakers 2010-2011 Season Thread

Because I left early I watched some of the third period on TV. One of the announcers really had no idea about SUNYAC and scheduling, kept going on about how Plattsburg game was "early" this year, not like last year and no one explained to him how the schedule works! Needs to do a lot more homework!

Re: Setting Sail - Oswego State Lakers 2010-2011 Season Thread

I think that the broadcast was fine, in a play by play sense. They definitely need to do a little more homework. As far as the game, you can't tell much from it. I know Ed wouldn't schedule a team like that unless he couldn't find anyone else. At the same time, a lot of kids from that team might have aspirations of playing at Oswego or some other D-3 school. In that case, I think the Lakers put on a good show of "this could be you next year." Really, in the third period especially, the Lakers were just making good hockey plays, and the other team was just going through the motions. I think both teams knew this was going to happen, maybe not by 17. But more like 10-12. Looking forward to a real test next week. Hope this didn't hurt more than it helped.

Re: Setting Sail - Oswego State Lakers 2010-2011 Season Thread

I have to agree that playing against 15-20 year olds was not exactly a challenge, especially for Beckwith who appeared bored to tears, but let's try this line of thinking. D3 schools were allowed to officially practice on October 15th so maybe this is Eddie's way of seeing how the team functions in a game atmosphere early on so he can set his lines for the upcoming games. I would like to think that Eddie could not find a team that was closer to SUNYAC caliber play so this is what he put together. Remember All-Star teams are just that, they are made up of stars from each individual team and generally do not work well as a team.

Regards no class, it would appear that toward the end of the game Oswego was moving the puck a lot but it did seem like the other team threw in the towel. Maybe Oswego should have passed back to the neutral zone and then come back in to attack or maybe they could have given the puck up so the other team had a chance to score more often or maybe flipped their sticks over so they couldn't use the blades or played with only 4 players and pulled the goalie. Would that have been more classy or would it have appeared that they were showing up the other team? Please enlighten me on how you can show class against a team that has either given up or is no match in speed, strength and talent?

Hey the women's team could have used the exhibition experience too :)

Obviously, you missed where I said it was a joke.

Well, the game was a joke, so that's understandable. How this prepares the Lakers for Elmira...well, I guess we will know in six days....

Re: Setting Sail - Oswego State Lakers 2010-2011 Season Thread

Quite grateful for the overall silence regarding last game - the equivalent of which was sensed throughout the third period at the Campus Center. I'll bet that it was the first time in the CC's history that no goalie taunts were thrown at the net minders after a certain point (I believe the 12th goal sounds about right), and although that applause for them was extremely sarcastic early on, it became a lot more genuine after realizing the men was put in a disgusting situation. The standing ovation for Flitsch was excellent.:D

Game Summary: The Lakers out-muscled, out-maneuvered, out-skated, and blew out the 77's in every possible way. Summary closed.

Does anyone else sense a bit of disappointment with how lopsided this match was?
Bring Elmira on - we need a good game to watch now.

Ranger,

Thought you graduated and had departed the shores of Lake Ontario this season?

Re: Setting Sail - Oswego State Lakers 2010-2011 Season Thread

I did want Queens, RMC, Humber or some Canadian University school to come over and play us. Putting up 17 and not getting tested is no way to prepare for EC.

Re: Setting Sail - Oswego State Lakers 2010-2011 Season Thread

After two years of trying, I’ve finally reached 1,000 posts, many of which consist of making stupid comments in the Café, but hey, 1000 is 1000. Therefore, I will celebrate this occasion by creating a post entirely dedicated to my poorly constructed and disliked thoughts. Another hockey season is finally upon us (finally, right?) and so continues another season of celebration, disappointment, and (most importantly) bickering on the board. There’s a lot to look forward to this year (like every year), but there’s been some improvements to the D-II/III board itself. First, we’ve got this sweet new look provided by USCHO, it’s delightful. Second, Prez has added another team to his repertoire! Third, hockeyguy99 has proved that being a 16 seed in a tournament is nothing to be worried about, as name recognition is everything in the TOP. Finally, let’s pretend like the offseason threads were very constructive.
Moving on, theres several things I’ll expect to stay the same this year:
(in no particular order)
• There will be at least 4 people updating the Oswego game in score update threads, and most will provide relatively nothing in terms of game details.
• No matter when I check, Norwich will always be winning their game.
• Adrian will ring up at least 5 goals every game, but I’m not that impressed because the weekend before they put up 12 in the first two periods.
• The West games always start an hour later than the East games, yet I’m always surprised at how late their games go.
• If it weren’t for joecct, I wouldn’t think of any of the MASCAC teams.
• Prez will occasionally wonder who the hell I am.
• Players’ parents will join the board near NCAA tournament time and use illogical arguments as to why their son’s team should be in the NCAAs.
• Plattsburgh has at least 5 different people giving summaries of their game, and most often there’s one that is the complete opposite of every other account of the game.
• Any ref named St. Louis sucks.
• The ECAC-West will be a crapshoot once again.
• Middlebury will get votes on “reputation”.
• Wisconsin teams are interchangeable because of Eastern bias.
• A western FF site means 2 west teams will be in the FF. “ITS NOT FAIR!11!!11”
• The various USCHO correspondents will use two usernames more than Cortland students choose being a gym teacher as their future career.
• There will be no less than three separate occasions where people make score update threads with the wrong date in the thread title.
• The combination of Hammer and Bayliner will do the board equivalent of ***** slap some new poster who claim Adrian sucks because they play no one.
• Northland will still suck.
• Norm will “bring the fire” with the always relevant links in threads.
• No matter how many times they’ve been discussed, pick ‘em thread rules will be complained about by people who miss the pick deadline.
• The most debate in a score update thread could revolve around SUNYAC concessions’ pretzels.
• You know something unique/impressive happened when there’s a D-I poster commenting in a thread.
• Making outrageous game predictions is nothing more than a typical post.
• RIT will still have no class.
So there it is; my 1000th post. Was this a huge waste of time? Of course it was. Did I provide any information or analysis? Nope, just like the previous 999 posts! So here’s to a great season, and another 1,000 meaningless posts. That’s all folks.

Excellent sir.

Re: Setting Sail - Oswego State Lakers 2010-2011 Season Thread

Ah darn, I won't be in Oswego this upcoming weekend. I think the first games I'll be able to see in person will be Pots-Platts weekend.

Hotels are filling up for Whiteout Weekend. Got my room before I left town last week....

Ranger,

Thought you graduated and had departed the shores of Lake Ontario this season?

Being stuck with a part time job and still living at home (), but roughly 70 minutes from the CC(:)), here beckons the opportunity to see another year of the unexpected on ice, Prez. Until the situation changes, to Lakers hockey, I will go.

Re: Setting Sail - Oswego State Lakers 2010-2011 Season Thread

Fair enough...Maybe I'll see you Friday...

Although shame on me...I'll more than likely be wearing the purple and gold. ;)
