"Security" at your team's rink

Jeff_Jackson_for_Pres.

I miss Christian and Mark.
Out of curiosity, what is the "security" like at your team's rink?

Does arena staff search purses, camera bags and large pockets?

Is your arena on your campus?

If not, is the arena a multi-tenant arena (i.e. someone other than just your college/university uses it)?

Or does the arena do nothing and simply take patrons' tickets?

I've wondered how others compare to Notre Dame...

Re: "Security" at your team's rink

Security at Matthews is getting worse and worse. No bag search but there didn't used to be security of any kind, just a few roaming officers...there are orange jackets everywhere now, someone must have complained cause its a bit overkill.

The worst is still at Agganis though, they are BRUTAL!

Re: "Security" at your team's rink

At Michigan Tech, they allow outside drinks and food (I bring whole pizzas in all the time), cowbells, huge cameras and bags, flags and poles, kegs, tire irons, machetes, shotguns, bazookas, etc.

Re: "Security" at your team's rink

At Mariucci, they had people open up their purses and such when I was there a couple weeks ago, but I don't think they looked very thoroughly. They have ushers/security at the top of most aisles (single-tier arena, basically), but all I've seen them do is prevent people from getting to their seats during actual play.

Pretty much. If the mother of an opposing player has sand in her vag and doesn't like a particular sign in the student section which teases her son and "ruins her whole trip", apparently the rink staff will send someone to ask that the sign be taken down. *cough*Karen Davis*cough* ;)

A couple of times they have asked opposing fans to leave the student section, unaware that they are friends of the Misfits (or more specifically, MEg).

Re: "Security" at your team's rink

I'll start for Bemidji State and the John Glas Fieldhouse in its final year hosting the Beavers. The BREC will be a whole new ballgame, I'm sure.

It's a very casual atmosphere.

The rink is on campus, but it is used by the local high school team as well. Security is very laid back at HS games too.

There are ticket-takers and ushers as well as "official" BSU security personel, but like I said, no searches and unless there are issues, I've never noticed their presance.

The Glas is a unique setting. There is a lobby/concession/rest room area where no ticket is required for entrance. The ticket-takers are actually set-up at the base of a set of stairs that lead directly to the top of the bleachers. Once you are "in" the rink, you get your hand stamped, and are free to return to the lobby/concession/rest room area and come and go as you please. That makes the set of stairs a busy place (2000 fans coming and going all in one space for pre/post game and internission!)... I can imagine that is a huge security issue right there.

Re: "Security" at your team's rink

Nil.

Everything is done by volunteers from fraternities and ROTC. Entrances are basically scan ticket and in. The ushers pretty much just stand there and keep people from going down to their seat while the puck is in play.

Signs, noisemakers, musical instruments, lynched mascots, etc. are pretty much good to go, especially if you're in Tech clothing. You could theoretically bring anything you wanted into the arena. Pep Band stripes conceal a flask and bottle of Hershey's syrup for peppermint patty shots quite well (not that I would EVER do such a thing ;))

I would think that's rare. The three times I've been there, no opposing fans were asked to leave the Misfits' section.

And SCSU's arena allows a lot, also, as far as noisemakers and such.

If you go in the student entrance, they pat you down.

I was not asked. I was ordered. I responded by saying "Well Boosh isn't wearing pants, so why should I have to?" They disagreed.

Re: "Security" at your team's rink

Security at Alfond Arena is none, they take your ticket and thats it.

Ha ha. Fail. I had Blizzard give me some trouble last year, but that was about it.

Re: "Security" at your team's rink

tDECC is all over the map. We brought in 15 bags of tshirts to sell and the first person to buy one was the cop working the door. Biddco carries a blowup doll around the rink during the lap when tUMD scores (which has been limited to 5 people at a time) but they took away my "Every time a cowbell rings God kills a Husky" sign because it was offensive.

tDECC does not like opposing fans to bring cowbells.

If you're an opposing fan, tDECC bizarrely cracks down on you if your team takes a lead.

Re: "Security" at your team's rink

Funny, but they seem to find enough security at Notre Dame every time I want to discuss anything with a referee between periods or after a game.

As some others have pointed out already, SCSU's security is pretty lax.

In my college days (read as: one year ago) I brought a flask or pop bottle full of booze into the arena every game, concealed in my front sweatshirt pocket. I don't believe they search purses, either.

The arena is on campus (a dry campus) and it's also used for St. John's D-III hockey, as well as some high school games.

The ticket takers are these real ancient, sometimes crabby folks in white jackets. They just want to get you in there so they can sit down.

Once inside there's a fairly large contingent of SCSU Public Safety officers as well as St. Cloud PD monitoring the student sections. For the most part they'll only kick you out if you a) look extremely drunk, b) are openly drinking, or c) fall over. Beyond that you're good to go.

At the Berry in Marquette, its very relaxed. Ticket takers are student employees, who could care less about their min. wage job.

Does arena staff search purses, camera bags and large pockets?
Student workers dont care, and come on, its the UP of Michigan.

Is your arena on your campus?
Yet, the club teams use it too, along with USOEC Speedskating, and whoever else buys ice time.

Or does the arena do nothing and simply take patrons' tickets?

That pretty much sums it up. We have 1 Public Safety officer roaming around, we usually sing her a song about handcuffing us, strip searching, the fun stuff. Noise makers, its not really an issue unless a coach *Cough Comely, Cough* complains to the refs during the playoffs. The Athletic Dept. tried to control the swearing last year, threatening to kick the puckheads out, but that didnt last too long. If they did that, the games would sound a lot like it does at Lake State.
