SCSU @ UNO Fri/Sat Jan 31st/Feb 1st: We Wanna Fight, Where's Matt White?!?

Massa was out, he wasn't on the line-up card last night he was a scratch. I don't know where the thought is he could play. He is also not on the lineup card tonight.

Tied it up...sounds like UNO is trying to play more physically, but that could come back to bite them. They've already taken a major.

Something needs to be fixed here. St. Cloud isn't going to do diddly poo in the NCAAs if they keep giving up 5+ goals per game.

Faragher has been pretty bad the last two weekends. Maybe you could lay some of the blame on the defense for the Friday game against WMU, but last weekend he let in some really soft goals and gave up a ton of rebounds. If he doesn't play better this weekend I hope Bob thinks about giving Lindgren some starts because we won't win many games with Faragher playing like he has been lately.
Looks like I didn't get my wish.

Looks like SCSU has UMD's second half season slump.

Well, I guess UNO can score goals.

In recent years SCSU had been hot out of the break, then cooled off by playoff time. Even happened last year too, we just happened to play two great games at the regional. I was feeling pretty good that this was the perfect time for a little midseason slump, them get hot or the stretch and playoffs. However, if we don't figure out our massive defensive problems by, oh, next weekend, I'm going to think this is an old-school Dahl-era swoon.

Series epilogue:

UNO has serious goaltending and defense issues that have surfaced on and off for the entire season. If SCSU thinks they have problems...................

That said, I don't think top 5 teams get 8 goals hung on them very often. If you like wild games, the Centurylink Center was the place to be last night.

Lost in the craziness of last night, something the press doesn't appear to know since they haven't reported it, is that this was the highest scoring game in program history for UNO in terms of total goals scored by both teams surpassing an 8-5 win against UAH in December of '05. I left the arena last night pretty sure this game had to be a candidate for this and in checking the press guide this A.M., I was right. What's scary is the number of Grade A scoring chances for both teams that didn't go in.

SCSU Euro came down to our section introduced himself (along with his SCSU entourage) and we had a chance to chat between both the 2nd & 3rd periods. I'm sorry I wasn't able to take him up on a beer offer after the game as I had an armada of friends, family, and business acquaintances at the game as my guest, something I do twice per year and that led to all sorts of "obligations", pre and postgame, that I don't normally have at a UNO game. We'll have other chances, I am sure. Since most of my guests aren't really hockey fans, I would have enjoyed sharing more thoughts with him and his buddies than I had a chance to last night. I'll give them credit, they represented well and were very vocal--just lonely. There wasn't a whole lot of SCSU gear in the building this weekend that I saw.

Off to Fargo (edit: doh! Grand Forks) for us next weekend.

Did you seriously say Fargo? Double check your last sentence.

Will you be in Minneapolis in March?

LOL

Misspoke, sorta.

Fargo is part of my territory, business-wise, and I headed there for that reason, but the ulterior motive for scheduling the trip this week IS to see UNO play North Dakota--in Grand Forks, obviously. Was just absent-minded. Not the first time I have ever done it, either. I brain farted that one another time in the North Dakota thread.

Great win for us last night. I thought we'd see more St. Cloud fans. The more the merrier. Is that 2 or 3 hat tricks for us this year?

Sorry. I don't make enough to do road trips. Come to Minneapolis in March and I will greet you to a beer. Ask for Lady.

Re: SCSU @ UNO Fri/Sat Jan 31st/Feb 1st: We Wanna Fight, Where's Matt White?!?

So first off, Ryan Walters is now my favorite non SCSU college hockey player, and its not even close. His dad is a great guy and we talked for like an hour, and he made a much better first impression than another anonymous UNO family member. :D

It was nice to meet Red Cows, Keith, Peter, their wives, and everyone else that we met this weekend... and I have a LOT of memory loss, but when you go to Omaha, ask for the slide. :D

As for hockey, we have had some defensive miscues lately, and subpar performances in between the pipes, and I think one leads to the other, which leads to the other, and its a downward spiral. That being said, we haven't won a series since Duluth and we're still in first in the NCHC, and tied for 8th in Pairwise. A LOT of teams would like to have our problems right now. Right now the following teams are on the outside looking in: UND, Notre Dame, Maine, Yale, DU, MSUM, WMU, Miami and UNO (who are somehow tied with UAA).

Good luck to UNO the rest of the way, and you guys should try to make to Minnesota in March one of these years ;)
