SCSU @ UNO December 12/13 "I'll Have the Steak!"

Re: SCSU @ UNO December 12/13 "I'll Have the Steak!"

Well SCSU has definitely stuck themselves in a very big whole, I see them being much better than a 7th place team. Like Miami last year they have a lot of ground to make up, but at least in comparing them to the Mavs I feel like SCSU was a better team than the Redhawk team we saw in here at this point in the season last year. They have two games in hand to five of the six teams ahead of them in the standings and four games against Denver in the second half so they can make up ground. Part of this weekend was definitely an unlucky call on Friday night, and I'm sure at 6-9-1 that is just another example of things going wrong/seemingly stacked against them in the first half. I think if that is not a game penalty then its at least point for the Huskies maybe 3 as Brodzinski is a sniper and would've had a few good looks drastically changing both teams outlook heading into the second half.

But I feel compared to what I saw from Miami last year this team is going to win way more than 6 games in conference during the regular season. Miami won just three games a year ago after the break plus a shootout win. In fact I can see the Huskies winning 6 games in January alone fairly easily. As was proved last year (6 vs. 8 in the final), any team in this conference can win in the playoffs except possibly CC at this point so it will be down to how they play at the end, but getting into the 40 point range is a must.

To me they need to come out early and split with Miami and at Denver followed by sweeps of Western and CC. They will be in the running for a home series. However because Denver still plays three against CC, the Huskies probably have to win 3 of 4 against the Pios to have a chance to overtake them. If they can manage 8-2 in those games which I think they can. They will be sitting 31 points. Meaning that splits with their remaining opponents (UMD, Omaha, UND) gives them 40 which should be about 5th in this year's standings. But more importantly they would be 11-5 down the stretch setting them up for a nice playoff run. If they can scrub out a split agianst Quinnipiac they would be 12-6 a sweep would make it 13-5 and either way puts them back into a decent spot for NCAA consideration. Now that's having a lot of puck luck as they can't afford a sweep in the second half but its still highly possible from what I saw this weekend.

This team probably has to win 14 out the last 18 regular season games and in first round of playoffs to make the NCAA Tourney. The odds are pretty much slim to none that is going to happen with the way this team has played up to this point. I hope I am wrong, but I doubt I am. :(
