SCSU @ tUMD: Let's Stuff These Turkeys

Re: SCSU @ tUMD: Let's Stuff These Turkeys

Thanks for the info guys. That logo really grinds my gears.

I grew up near Ontario in the 60's and 70's, before cable and Hockey Night in Canada was on every Wednesday and Saturday nights. So I watched alot of Canadiens games and always revered the CH logo. I find the CST logo just a bit tacky and unambiguously plagiarized.

I was a North Star fan so I hated the Canadiens and I didn't like their home jersey's and the blue. I think the black is much sharper.

Re: SCSU @ tUMD: Let's Stuff These Turkeys

To clarify--the St.C logo was initiated by Herb Brooks, head SCSU coach in 1986-87. Report at the time had Brooks saying he didn't like a sweater "with a dog on it."

Brooks did his own research of past St. Cloud hockey. WAY back in the day--'30's through the '50's--St. Cloud had an outstanding amateur team called the St. Cloud Rockets. Indeed, their jersies had the Canadiens-like logo. THAT is where Brooks found the logo--not a copy of the Montreal team.

SCSU hockey players have been wearing the St.C logo proudly since 1986-87. No, not a copy of the Montreal Canadiens, but an ongoing tradition of St. Cloud hockey.

Thanks Boomer, maybe it was 86 and I was home for the weekend. I heard all about that year and them going out east and getting 3rd. I knew some of the sideline people. I was introduced to Dahl and a bunch of the players the year after when I came back from Colorado.

The wiki entry says the Montreal original logo was started in 1917 and stands for "Club de Hockey Canadien"from Club athlétique Canadien and evolved to it's current form in 1952.

I found this when I researched St. Cloud Rockets...

"In 1967, Tom Hofmann coached the St. Cloud Rockets Hockey Team to the U.S. Intermediate Championship. The logo he designed for the Rockets, "ST" encircled by a large "C", evolved into the official logo of St. Cloud State University. Tom was recognized by St. Cloud State University in 2002 for his contribution to its history. He was also proud to have been inducted into the St. Cloud Hockey Hall of Fame."

So the Rockets copied the Canadiens' logo and the Huskies copied the Rockets logo. Got it. ;):p

That's what "grinds your gears?" I think there are plenty other things in the world to be upset about.... like having 1 conference win this year. Zingers!

Although it was against SCSU :(

Thanks again to hockeycrazy and The Boomer for the informative posts. I still think the CST logo looks like it was "inspired" by the Canadiens logo. But hey, NoDak used to wear the Chicago BlackHawks Indian head, so the Huskies are not the first to borrow NHL logo formats.

pfft. It's more like the southern branch forcing us to do so. It's part of the deal when you're an UMn school. I'd be cool if we went with a different color scheme.

You spell too. Or did before your students couldn't handle it. Although spelling beats a song from that creep Gary Glitter.

Re: SCSU @ tUMD: Let's Stuff These Turkeys

Except that we don't spell out Huskies... boy, they win one conference game and now they wanna cock off....

We haven't done the spelling thing in probably 10 years...and we didn't spell Huskies.

Re: SCSU @ tUMD: Let's Stuff These Turkeys

Does anybody know where I could find highlights from these games?

Amsoil will do highlights on youtube every once in awhile when we win, but I haven't seen any for awhile. The last I checked they didn't even have highlights from Friday's game. Sorry :/
