SCSU @ tUMD: Let's Stuff These Turkeys

Did you bring your broom? We will be needing it :D

I was looking for you tonight at the heavily tax assessed and paid into Duluth. But nobody would look at me at the soilyourself since the Husckeys were kicking behind of the local team. Met lots of very humble people in the maddening crowd. I assume one of them was you.

Did you go to Dubh Linn after the game?

FTFY.
Awfully confident for a guy who's team has ZERO conference wins.

And I was right :)

We need all the conference wins we can get.

We might win by double digits both nights.
:)

I
Yes we have been but he definitely helps the offense which is already performing well on the PP in conference and he will help us balance out the lines 5 on 5.
Big key for you guys wil likely be can you score enough?
Right now we have the #1 defense in conference play, the #1 PK as well.
I'm looking forward to some fun games but I think it got harder for you guys to win.
I was hoping Hanoski would go scoreless on the pp on the week d but that didn't happen. Alas.

Re: SCSU @ tUMD: Let's Stuff These Turkeys

We were definitely outworked Friday and UMD deserved that win, but from what I saw, I don't see UMD finishing with home ice unless they get more scoring support.
You guys are a one line team.

Agreed. Our Basaraba, Herbert line has been a HUGE disappointment. We need them to pick it up if we have any hope of home ice.

tUMD is very much a one line team. SCSU has at least twice the offensive firepower this year. tUMD will have to really pick it up the next three weekends; @ Tech, vs. Beavers and @ Seawoofs, to have any chance at home ice. They need 8-9 of those 12 points and that will not be easy.

I tried doing some research on the SCSU logo which is modeled after the Montreal Canadiens logo and found nothing. When did SCSU start using that?

I think I went to my first game as a kid in 91 or so and that logo was on the Jersey

I had a grad class at SCSU that touched on marketing law, and while discussing copyright infringement the case came up of the Duluth Huskies college wood-bat league team, which tried to put forward a logo that basically looked exactly like the SCSU Husky head logo, only with a old-English D on the collar instead of the CST. SCSU sued and the Duluth Huskies had to stop using the logo because the court ruled it was an infringement.

I asked the professor the obvious follow-up question - why haven't the Canadiens sued SCSU over the CST, which is so obviously analogous. Apparently, the CST goes back several decades, and there's no absolute understanding about which one existed first. I don't think that's real accurate since the Canadiens' logo dates back to the war (the first one), but it's possible the original CST was designed independently anyway.

Re: SCSU @ tUMD: Let's Stuff These Turkeys

They had the Montreal Canadien's logo the first game I went to at the MAC in 1985-86??. I was looking at pics from a hockey history vid and they had a husky dog logo on the front 74-75 at the MAC (I think the MAC was built in 72), before that in 68-69 just had the "St. Cloud" on the front. So it's narrowed down to between 84? and 86-87 that they started using it.

Here is a link to that video... if it refreshes anyone's memory.

More pics 1932-71

I just saw a pic of Dave Reichel (76-79) and Jeff Passolt (77-81) with the old dog logo on front in this guide...

There's also a 1982 pic with the old dog logo on page 92 of 138.

On page 86 there is a pic of Mike Brodzinski 84-87 with St Cloud State around the outside and the huskie in the middle. So it must have been 85 (if my memory is correct) or the year Herb Brooks came here 86-87 (I was in Colorado that year) where I see it in a lot of pics.

Thanks for the info guys. That logo really grinds my gears.

I grew up near Ontario in the 60's and 70's, before cable and Hockey Night in Canada was on every Wednesday and Saturday nights. So I watched alot of Canadiens games and always revered the CH logo. I find the CST logo just a bit tacky and unambiguously plagiarized.

Give me a break.

That's what I told Derek Forbort's dad while I was sharing a pop with him at a bar in Duluth on Saturday while I was wearing my St. C sweater: the 'ND' logo for North Dakota seemed to be confusing with the Notre Dame logo. He just laughed.
