SCSU @ MSUM: The Patient Shows Some Signs Of LIfe

Re: SCSU @ MSUM: The Patient Shows Some Signs Of LIfe

Fair enough, but I will say this. It's pretty hard to look at MSU's goal scoring stats and read anything from it. 4 guys that were legitimately expected to score goals have been hurt for extended periods of time already. Dorr, Hayes, Gaede and Grant have all been out for multiple games. I don't think any of us really know how deep MSU is based upon stats just because of the volume of games MSU players have missed already. For God's sake, we were relegated to 12 forwards and 6 defensemen (3 freshmen and a forward included) for a while. 6 guys were out for full series or more. Point being that we have no idea how deep they are. Half of those guys either got back last or will be getting back this weekend. This is far from a cake walk because no one really knows what MSU really is.

The comment was less about MSU-M, although of those guys who are supposed to score goals this year, how many are now back in the lineup? And are they coming in with a few weeks of rust or have they started to play? My point was we're not a one-trick pony, and losing Drew sucks, but there are teams in the WCHA that can afford to be out their top offensive threat, and SCSU is one of them. Honestly, I don't necessarily know that LeBlanc would have been this year... a handful of guys could fight for that honor.

Dorr, Hayes, and Gaede were all back this last weekend. They seemed to have made a pretty solid impact on Saturday. Friday was definitely a rusty night for them though. I don't really think we'll know what kind of team MSU is until after the new year. The younger guys need some more time to get acclimated to the weekly grind and the rest of the vets need to get healthy.

Your point to SCSU very well be valid. I don't know nearly enough about the team to make that judgment. Maybe they will be able to continue without a blip on the screen. My point is just that that is a tough thing to fight through that quickly. From what I've been hearing LeBlanc is the leader in the locker room and on the ice in addition to being the scoring leader up to this point. If that truly is the case, someone else has to step up in a hurry. It could very well happen. I'm just pointing out the difficulty in that proposition.

Thus far, not sure how my statement couldn't be true. I gave you the proof, and it is what it is. I woudnt be surprised to see the Mavs lose a ton of close, hard fought games this year. I would be a little surprised if they won a bunch, but they're young and scrappy.

Plus one big thing with injuries is the lack of opportunity to get chemistry with lines, etc. With guys being shuffled in and out frequently, it's tough to get things to click.

You're right... that does need to happen in a hurry. We play the Gophers in ten days. Good thing we get you guys this weekend. Talent has this one too lopsided.

# of SCSU goals this weekend > # of Purple Cows that would see ice time if they played for SCSU

Huskies Sweep

You gave me no proof, you gave me a tiny sample size. Now I could be wrong, but I don't think Mankato manages more than a .250, .300 at the most winning percentage against the WCHA's top 5 this year (for argument's sake, let's call that group MN, UMD, CC, DU, UNO in no particular order). And if that ends up being the case, that is not being able to compete with anyone in the country... that's getting tossed around.

Re: SCSU @ MSUM: The Patient Shows Some Signs Of LIfe

As much as I want to agree with Euro, talent does not always = victory. See UM Gophers for the past 3 years.

He has a point though. SCSU has very impressive depth. I would be nervous if Eddy was still dormant. But, with 22 finding the score sheet again I think the Huskies will collectively rise to the challenge of LeBlanc's absence. Best thing the Huskies can do is stay in the hunt and extend their season so Drew will have an opportunity to play additional games.

Re: SCSU @ MSUM: The Patient Shows Some Signs Of LIfe

Is Mankato going to stay in the WCHA, or dump their program?

I hope the purple cows lose in two blowouts this weekend and the rest of the year for that matter....

Re: SCSU @ MSUM: The Patient Shows Some Signs Of LIfe

I concur Wes! Except while Mavs may be using that "sarcasm" thingie, I'm not. :)
Like I have said multiple times since I joined here. I don't like Cloud very much, but the Husky fans on this board are good people.

That's all of the sample size we have so far. We have struggled to put full rosters on the ice thus far. And losing a bunch of close, hard fought games against those teams would be competing with them. Like I said, that is entirely different than winning a bunch of games.

Oh wes...what did I ever do to you?!

So if Mankato had had that atrocious record against the Gophers but all those losses were one or two goals, that's "competing?"

They would've competed in all of the games, yes. They just didn't have enough to win those games. In a rebuilding year, with a lot of injuries, competing is playing close with a team night in and night out, regardless the results; if you're playing a team close, it's more than likely to win a few of those games as well.
