SCSU @ DU: A Mile Above the Rest

Gwozdecky's post game comments basically said that DU got their arse kicked by a team that came out and played well out of the gate. I also inferred from his comments that SCSU is a quality team and that our wins against Tech were against a team of slow-arse turtles, which they are. lol. It will be fun to see how DU responds tomorrow. I think the Finn, Juho Oklahoma (sic) will be in net tomorrow. Go DU!

Thought I heard Juho's knee wasn't 100%

Re: SCSU @ DU: A Mile Above the Rest

Wow. FSN Rocky Mountain traveled out of Colorado?

Yeah, that's the ONLY time I remember them doing a game from St. Cloud (they actually did both nights) and one of about 4 games I remember them doing outside of CO. I can't remember his name but the one announcer (who played for DU) was from St. Cloud, I think that might have played a tiny role in them doing the games. That and the Gophers were on the road (I think) so the FSN-N truck and camera's were available. (And if I'm wrong about any of the above I know FTLT will be sure to correct me) :)

I miss watching DU games on FSN-RM. Will ROOT be doing many games? I think I only see 4 this year? Is that right?

Re: SCSU @ DU: A Mile Above the Rest

First time post on this site but very seasoned hockey follower and most importantly SCSU follower. It was great to see that we just were the better team tonight. We had more determination and were first to the puck. D played great and did not let them transition well and our forecheck was consistent. Big fan of this Freshman class for the huskies and am real excited with the leadership as well. We obviously need the big man Hano back but really impressive to see this team perform without the true leader tonight. Hopefully Ben can get some rest and recover soon! Need another sound defensive effort tomorrow and hopefully they can pull off a huge road sweep.

Don't take offense to this but the Huskies were not without leadership, Jensen was on the ice, he's as much a leader of this team as Hanowski. Of course they need/want Hanowski back, but unlike a few recent years where leadership on the ice wasn't something the Huskies had an abundance of, this years team has more than enough. Its early but I'm feeling pretty good about this team, just wish they would have had an exhibition game under their belts prior to the UNH trip.

Re: SCSU @ DU: A Mile Above the Rest

No offesnse taken and great point. I know that the leadership is in great hands with the likes of Jensen and LeBlanc but this team has a different vibe when Hanowski is on the ice. I was very impressed with how efffective the first two lines were without him but just was thinking of what this could mean for our squad. I love our depth but I truly am excited for our captain and best player to get back on the ice so we can be the best team that we can be.

MN at home tonight.

Benik too... but I felt like every time we hit the ice someone was in charge. Jensen, LeBlanc, Dowd, Prochno, Thorson, Milan, seriously every shift somebody stepped up and just took charge and everyone else felt in line.

They did what we have asked them to do to the last few years... play a complete game. Now we are playing with house money and need to keep our foot on their neck

Re: SCSU @ DU: A Mile Above the Rest

Well...the Huskies came to play and the Pios fookin face planted from the the opening puck drop. This game was basically over 10 minutes in. Could be a great game tomorrow if St Cloud brings the same intensity and DU actually decides to not crap the bed again.

A complete smack-down, it was tonight...

Charlie Host is his name and, yes, he is from St Cloud and, yes, he played for DU in the mid-90's.

Imagine Tonight's SCSU team adding the following:

Best Freshman, Joey Benik, forward injured;
Best Sophmore, David Morley, center injured; and
Best Player/captain, Ben Hanowski, forward injured (Hobey candidate).

If this SCSU team gets and stays healthy, it wins WCHA and goes to Final Four.

Big gathering in Denver of SCSU alumni meeting Saturday afternoon. Tonight's result should increase numbers who attend. Last year former SCSU president Bruce Grube showed. High Toast to Boulder resident Ramon Nunez who is hosting tomorrow's SCSU party at Bea Jou's pizza joint, GO HUSKIES!

Re: SCSU @ DU: A Mile Above the Rest

It's easy to win a game when the other team doesn't show up  DU should play much better tonight. #6 for DU might have a medical issue; they were tending to him for quite a while on the bench in the 3rd period and I don't think he went back out. Looked like shoulder. Dowd was wild to watch.. from Alabama nonetheless! We laughed at how little #18 for SCSU was, during the introductions lineups.... but we weren't laughing for long :( I see a split coming.

Re: SCSU @ DU: A Mile Above the Rest

Couple of general points...

I've heard Hano and Jensen as the "leaders" of the team, and they are, but LeBlanc is the alpha of the pack for sure.

The bandwagon seems to be filling up fast, and though last night's performance proved a lot, I wouldn't say it proved the Huskies are the team to beat in the WCHA quite yet. Another similar performance tonight would speak volumes, but it would also paint a big 'ol target on the team's back.

I know you might not want to believe it, but have you considered the possibility that SCSU is better than Denver?

Agreed, next week will also tell us a lot about the team.

Re: SCSU @ DU: A Mile Above the Rest

We needed a Rakh-Trick for a tie.
Your Cloudies had the Pios in a fog. And were the better team last nite for sure.
Dowd and Jensen were really impressive.

Hope Gwoz lights a fire under the Pios today and we have a much different result.

fyi #6 is Dakota Mermis freshman D-man

Re: SCSU @ DU: A Mile Above the Rest

Well I am certainly not going to complain about a split. And right about now I'm mightily pleased that I have a Saturday night power pack and not a Friday night one. :)
