TBH, the ruling does need some refinement because homeless camps have become a huge problem in basically every city here out west. The ruling has good intentions, certainly there needs to be way better shelter and housing options, but it’s also had some heavy consequences.

Though I’m a bit skeptical on this particular case since it seems to want to legalize the “we want to kick you out and have you become (insert big city name here)’s problem instead of ours” attitude that many smaller localities love.

The Bell Riots from Star Trek lore took place in San Francisco in September 2024. Just saying, that's not too far off the mark of reality.

In light of the 2024 election, and the MAGATs’ penchant for bending the rule of law, I have a 22nd amendment question. Since TFG already has one term as POTUS behind him, but was then defeated in his reelection bid, if we as a nation should fail to defeat him this time, would he be eligible for reelection in 2028? I’m thinking about Grover Cleveland and how he’s counted as twice as POTUS.

On one hand, the 22nd makes it clear that no person can serve 3 terms anymore, but that Cleveland hitch to history has cased me to wonder.

If the MAGAts wanna mess with the 22nd amendment, go ahead. That’ll just guarantee a third term for Obama…

Grover Cleveland was President in the 1880s. The 22nd Amendment didn't happen until 1947. There was no steadfast rule about Term Limits until after FDR.

Cleveland has no bearing on any of this.

Also, Grover Cleveland only served two terms.

He won, served a four year term, lost, got re-elected four years later, and served another four year term. Just like Trumpie would do, if he wouldn't suspend further elections during his second term. Which you know he'll try to do.

I know Cleveland only served two terms. I was curious if the POTUS numbering oddity is something TFG would or could exploit as a loophole in the 22nd Amendment to connive his way into a third term.

22A is pretty blunt:

No person shall be elected to the office of the President more than twice, and no person who has held the office of President, or acted as President, for more than two years of a term to which some other person was elected President shall be elected to the office of the President more than once.

There's a bit more language regarding grandfathering those who held the office during or prior to the amendment's proposal & ratification to avoid an ex-post facto conflict, but that is obviously now irrelevant.
