Re: SCOTUS 15: Help Us, Ruth Bader Ginsburg! You're Our Only Hope!

He sounds like quite the Little Eichmann.

When Benjamin Cardozo's appointment was being pressed on President Herbert C. Hoover, McReynolds joined with fellow justices Pierce Butler and Willis Van Devanter in urging the White House not to "afflict the Court with another Jew".[39] When news of Cardozo's appointment was announced, McReynolds is claimed to have said "Huh, it seems that the only way you can get on the Supreme Court these days is to be either the son of a criminal or a Jew, or both."

According to John Frush Knox (1907–1997), McReynolds's law clerk for one term (1936–1937, following the seven-year clerkship of Maurice Mahoney), and one author of a memoir of his service, McReynolds never spoke to Cardozo at all.[34] McReynolds did not attend the memorial ceremonies held at the Supreme Court in honor of Cardozo.[41][43][44] He did not attend Felix Frankfurter's swearing-in, exclaiming "My God, another Jew on the Court!"[45]

Anything I've ever seen about the justices suggests that they all get along a lot better than most of us would expect, and some would hope. I suppose some people still find it odd that adults can disagree on a subject, even one of great importance, and not take that disagreement personally.

“Nowadays, when people divide into ‘I’ll talk to my own kind, and the others I have nothing to do with,’ that’s very sad because that hasn’t been the way it was and isn’t the way this country should be,” Ginsburg said. She added that Americans should go “beyond just mere tolerance of different views” to “welcoming different views because they enrich our society.”
.

I agree to a point. Heck, I even started dating someone who was the other party abuout six years ago. Now? No. I can have friends who are pro life, and we can disagree on whether the Middle East wars were the right choice. But I really don’t spend much time with them now

What did it for me was that the entire GOP platform is now disgusting. Anti woman, anti non-whites, anti health care, anti 99 percent, raping the planet and shunning science.
I don’t want those people as friends. Can I interact with them? I do.

My Dumpy co-workers and I get along fine, we just never talk about politics. But those are co-workers. For a spouse or friends I have to respect them. I do not respect anybody who is still a Republican.

Yep. My girlfriend is a reformed conservative now liberal. We took a very similar path to where we are now.

I couldn’t date a conservative. No way. Not anymore.

I’m friends with a few trumpers. I have convinced myself they are just trolls and don’t believe it. Or at least I’ve tried.

Eh, I could. People don't usually fit into neat little boxes (though I could definitely rule out white nationalists and most evangelicals). Plus, at 38, my potential pool is small enough, no need to artificially decrease it...especially since I'll be living in Texas.

If they are who I think they are...probably

Thought Exercise Assignment of the Day:
Replace the words "conservative and/or Republican" in the prior statements with your choice of the following: Jew, Muslim, Catholic, Hindu, Buddhist, Democrat, etc. Explain why any of the statements are not bigoted.

Because political affiliation is a choice and is presumably based on one's values. No one is born a Republican or a Democrat.

We all make decisions based on input; if someone proudly exclaims they're a Republican after all the shiat they've done over the last decade, how can you not make a judgment based on that?

Replace Republican with Nazi and tell me how that is bigoted?

Because you put children in cages. Jews, Muslims, Catholics, Hindus, Buddhists, and Democrats don't.

The correct substitution for "Republican" between 1981 and 1994 was "idiot." Between 1994 and 2016 it was "infant." Since 2016 it's "sociopath."

If you cover for Nazis you're a Nazi. Don't like it? Stop covering for Nazis. Get over your hurt hick feewies, grow up, be an American, and fight the Nazis.

Wow! Are you ACTUALLY saying that I put children in cages? Really? Even Foxton, Flaggy, et al. never sank to those depths.
I have to surmise that you (Singular) are using the word "you" in the plural form. Regardless, to infer that I am associated in any way, shape, or form with that type of activity is reprehensible. I thought you (singular or plural, your choice) were better than that. My bad.

Do you support the party that does this? Are you actively working to end such actions? Then you're part of the problem.

Own it.

You're not stupid, you know exactly what I am saying. Even if you don't rufus explained it to you.

You bought the ticket; you take the ride. People who vote for Nazis are responsible for what those Nazis do.

Which is funny coming from the same party that says “It’s the person, not the gun.”

Weird how that works.
